What relics in Norte Dame were stolen? Most were made for the church during the Middle Ages. Most of the artworks in the Louvre were owned by the French kings who commissioned them, bought them, or received them as gifts or as the result of treaties. The Louvre was one of the many royal palaces before the French Revolution. Much of the Greek and Egyptian artifacts were stolen by Napoleon but that’s only a portion of the museum’s collection.

New York is not only large but has a lot of 100 year old building built before comprehensive fire codes. There only time a building may seem fire code improvements is during a large building renovation. The other option is building demolition. The land in NYC is so valuable that land owners would rather let a building go deralect than tear it down. Vacant land gets taxed more than occupied land and that causes property owners to put off land demolition to vacant land.

Large interior spaces for flow paths and then we are looking at a structure that has strict observance of the rules yet still there are fires that get started and are not discovered discovered until the smoke is seen coming out the vents. by then the interior is already an inferno. God Bless all who attended and dealt with this inferno I know firefighting is dangerous enough without the pandemic protocols that must also have been put in place on top of everything else. Why does FDNY use three types of truck companies (rear mounted stick, tillered stick, and tower ladder)? Why don't they go with just one type and how do they decide where the different types are stationed? Not a criticism, just wondering. Retied from a large CA dept. and we used all tiller rigs.
@FDNYResponseVideos4 жыл бұрын
Everything has its positives. Tower ladders offer very secure rescue platforms and the ability to knock down fires like this one with pinpoint precision from above. Regular rearmounts offer easy access to and from the roof of the fire building. And tillers do the same, but are good for tight streets. FDNY has used this system for longer than any department save Boston, and as the largest in the US, it is the model not the outlier. I’m sure your department had its reasons for using only tillers, different things work better in different environments.
@BigDaddy-dr8gf4 жыл бұрын
@@FDNYResponseVideos Like I said this was not a criticism, just curiosity. Just wondering how they decide on placement of the apparatus and what is the ratio between the rigs. Do they split them equally or are there more of one rig than another? Just because someone is the largest at something does not mean they are the model. Don't get me wrong FDNY is an exceptional great department, but they are not the model in all areas.
@stevemarsar16084 жыл бұрын
Short answer, different areas of the city, different buildings, different job functions, and different streets/neighborhoods, all require different aerial apparatus. Deployment of aerials & Tower ladders are geographical, Tillers are due to narrow street conditions.

At Notre Dame, the fire started in the cathedral roof space, and thankfully it didn't spread to engulf the whole building, as happened here. Notre Dame has a stone vaulted ceiling beneath the roof, which remained fairly intact except in the centre where the spire fell down, although the walls and vaulting were weakened. The firefighters managed to save the towers, the bells and organ, as well as salvaging relics from inside; excellent work.
