Thank's Tim, really informative videos, especially like the diagrams and explanations on washing line and dry fly on still waters which I had tried of but never had any success with.

Thanks . Its a method well worth sticking with . I found the best way to get confident on the dries was to try them for an hour every session I was out . Eventually you will start to get results . Thanks for watching

Thanks for putting videos like this up where we get to see the set up, i'm new to fishing and it's so confusing trying to figure out when i'm supposed to use a tapered leader or straight flourocarbon or a taper with flouro tied to the end of it. Would this be the same if you were fishing buzzers, straight Flourocarbon from the fly line ?
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67692 жыл бұрын
Hi Allen , I'm glad the vids help . Ok basically don't bother with tapered leaders at all unless fishing rivers ! .. Straight fluorocarbon from the spool is the best way to go . If you decide to try a team of flies use the same fluorocarbon for the droppers with a 3 turn water knot . Keep it simple . Tapering leaders is absolutely unnecessary in day to day fishing situations on still waters . If you have any issues with turnover then the best way to sort this out is to have an hours casting lesson as there is usually an issue here . Thanks for watching .

@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Thanks Tim, as a sea angler who just started fly fishing. I had the exact same question and this has answered it perfectly. I just couldn't see how a tapered leader would make any difference to my beginner casts on still water.

Hi Tim great videos. Been fishing a couple of years but not had much success on dries. Think my reflexes are too slow lol. I find a lot of the time the fish just seem to come up and just nosebut my fly.
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67693 жыл бұрын
So make sure to religiously de grease .. this can be a reason for refusals . Also try changing the fly size , go smaller or bigger ... these are usually reasons for refusals . I tend to use size 10s early and late season and 14s and 16s the rest of the year .

Does the 8lb fluorocarbon pull them under and what size foam and flies did you use?
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67693 жыл бұрын
It helps but you must degrease especially in a flat calm . Those were Size 10s . Foam is about 4mm .. big enough to keep them up . Check out the link to the tying vid

Nice vid Tim. You ever tried suspender hoppers early season?,
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67693 жыл бұрын
I prefer hoppers later in the year . They have a bigger profile and lay flatter in the water .. these emergers really dig in and hang vertical which I think is important ... Had some superb sport on the popper hoppers on Grafham last year August onwards !

Hi Tim just wondering how often do you degrease the leader and gink the flies
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex67693 жыл бұрын
It varys depending on the conditions but in a nutshell I will dry and gink the flies after every fish or when the fly becomes waterlogged . I degrease the leader often , especially in a flat calm .. some days I maybe doing it every 10 casts other days only once in a session ! Whenever the leader fails to sink I will degrease .. it does make a huge difference to catch rates and only takes a second ..... A note about using floatant / gink .. less is more .. too much gink can have a negative effect and actually sink the fly , I find drying the fly on my shirt or an Amadou patch much more effective than constantly re applying ..
