Been watching a load of You tube videos last few months when fly tying and got to admit yours are the best. Very informative. But what I like best is you camera angle covering hand control, rod /line and build up to takes...excellent.

Thanks for videos. great info. Used this method yesterday afternoon at Grafham in flat calm or light ripple. Had refusals to claret so switched to your hare's ear suspended emerger size 12 and crisp packet buzzer size 12. Didn't dare go less than 8lb fluro. Had several fish ran me to the backing. fantastic day with subtle takes to the emerger but savage, finger burning takes to the buzzer.

hi my name is Brian. Im 70 years old and although i do like my course fishing being i live mins away from the Dorset Stour and Avon, i do like to fly fish. I am a member of Salisbury Game Section so get to fish 28 miles of Chalk Streams for less than £300 o year but watching you on still waters is very interesting. Many of the Still waters around here restrict the numbers of flies to only 1 so could you perhaps do a video using only one fly at a time. What to choose, when and why. Regards Brian

@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769

As in the video , a tiny amount of gink before you start is all you need . If the fly sinks at any point a few quick flicky false casts to dry it , I certainly dont add any more gink as this will sink the fly eventually . After hooking a fish I will dry the fly by rubbing it on my shirt or using a drying patch . It really is something to practice but a dry fly should sit on the surface for quiet sometime on its own .

It varies on the day mate , but generally i give them a split second to turn their heads over the fly , so not too quick ! If you missed 5 today I would suggest maybe that the fish were refusing at the last second ... maybe seeing the leader or the fly was too big or small ?
@7pinky791

I am new to dry fly fishing in still waters. Question for you all, do you grease any part of the leader? Or the leader must NOT be made to float? I grease the leader as well the other evening, I had lots of interests but they turned away at the last second, is my floating leader putting them off?
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 3 жыл бұрын
No for still water fishing , the leader must not float . I usually just degrease the couple of feet up from the fly .. With a team then the whole leader ..

A helpful and informative video as always Tim. One thing I wondered about. Maybe it's the camera angle, but were you holding the rod a fair bit above water level? And if so was this to give more time on the dry fly strike? Timing on the dry can be challenging.
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 3 жыл бұрын
Yes unlike nymphing or lure fishing when you are looking for as little slack in the set up because you are feeling for the takes , with the dry fly its about your reaction time so having the rod off the water a little more than usual puts you in a better strike position . Thanks for watching

@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 3 жыл бұрын
@@trevorluft1763 Ok I would guess that its the line wt . I would never recommend under weighting a line to the rod .. it works the other way i.e a 5wt rod with a 6wt line . A fast action rod will create high line speeds , this can result in tailing loops , this is exacerbated when the line rating is lower than the rod rating , it results in a timing error normally in that final stroke or two .. this would lead to a turn over failure ...

I appreciate the music isn't to everyone's taste but I am trying to appeal to a younger audience too as I think its so important to engage with younger anglers . We all know that numbers are rapidly dropping and part of this reason is the tired stuffy image of fly fishing . It seems to be working as my analytics show a healthy amount of 18 - 25 yos watching . I try not to let it dominate the vids and try to keep all my info sharp and too the point . Thanks for supporting the channel mate .
