Curious if the decline 2 orders rule can be circumvented by pausing your dash? Accept an order then pause for 34 minutes, decline one, accept one, pause again? I don't know

What door dash needs to do is pay people $2 extra for 20 minutes waits because if we decline we get a bad rating & don’t get pay all that waiting . They need to make it make sense .

That’s seriously lowballing. $2 extra for 20 minutes waiting? So if you waited 1 hour, you’d only get $6 extra. That’s what your time is worth to you? $6 for an hour

Yesterday I did by the order and kept getting 5 dollar orders for 10 miles and 3 dollar orders for 7 miles. Kept declining and I watched my acceptance rate go from 74 to 69 in a little over 30 minutes. I often find it insulting to most of our intelligence that Door Dash believes that we buy into the whole, "your higher acceptance rate will ensure you are getting priority on higher paying orders". So I think Door Dash sees this as an opportunity to steal customer tips while getting us to take double deliveries at the same time because I find it extremely hard to believe that there were no tips on the orders I was taking during the hourly pay shift I did especially when I have received tip orders from the same customers in the past.

So 14/hr and still have to cover gas, maintenance, etc. And they know if you click that its time to assign every no tip order. Anyone opting in should just throw in the towel and apply at Wendy's. Would literally be more profitable.

I tried the by time feature in Dallas Texas. Not worth it. First it's only $8 an hour. And what you're saying makes sense because all the orders I took this morning were god-awful. One didn't even tip at all! It definitely seems that this is what the pay by time feature was designed for, to basically get dashers to take orders they would normally turn away.

Pedro nailed the earn-by-hour reasoning, to get dashers to deliver subpar orders from places that are slow and dashers don't want to do. I tried it yesterday for a couple of hours on the advice of another local dasher. It was just okay. Definitely going to try again, I did not have a single shop and deliver which is rare, I do not like to do them like I have been getting latlely.

Dashers who decide to earn by time should milk their time. They should position themselves so that they get the orders from places that take awhile to give Dashers the order, avoid parking right outside the pickup location (so maybe the second or third row back), double check the orders even when they don't need to, take the slowest routes to both the pickup and drop-off locations, take the elevator instead of the stairs, and walk at a comfortable speed (no speed walking or running).

The Earn-by-Time feature recently hit here in Middle TN at $11.75/hr Tried it for a few hours and I think I prefer it since I'm in a smaller town where a lot of orders will be a long distance away, so being paid by the hour is a benefit. The base pay in the Earn-by-Order option was way too low for the distance.

I’m still using the pay per order, but it seems like ever since they introduced the hourly pay in my area, I’m making less than I usually would. I feel like it’s less busy than usual, so maybe that’s the case. I’d like to go before 5PM but it seems like that’s the only time it gets busy now.

We live in a smaller town, things are slower and more spread out.We barley have a "peak" time what last for hours,so I'm actually happy they give you the option. I think for people like us living in areas like that,it's definitely a good thing.Unless it shows Peak time, then of course I would chose per order. But reading some comments,I definitely shouldn't stress myself while on time to get delivery there,I always forget about it and try to hurry 😂 just a habit lol

The problem is this option is almost more tip dependent. Yes you’ll get a guaranteed pay but I’d rather end my dash early cause I’m not getting good orders rather than earn an guaranteed 10-15$ while wasting my gas and not getting great tips because like what was stated earlier, these fast food places and restaurants don’t get picked often so most people aren’t gonna tip on it or tip well.

Also in knoxville and i notice i have to accept a lot of trash orders when doing the earn by time. The tips are usually $1-3 so not what I would normally take. Every now and then they would be 4-6 but its not as much as when I'm picky. The plus side is I dont have to stress about cherry picking the orders and route I take every order if I want to be lazy. Downside is when doing this you make much less money and drive more miles thus your profit after expenses is greatly reduced.

My app states "tips will be lower on these orders, so the hourly rate will factor that in." So they will literally be funneling all the No/Lo Tips to hourly drivers. You'd be lucky to cash out $5/an order while the earn by order drivers get a larger pool to cherry-pick the bigger tippers.

Where I live we have 2 very different markets. The first is a rural town that is literally feast or famine. Sometimes the runs are decent and you stay around, other times you go far enough out of town where it's not worth it. So, doing hourly is not worth it. The second is a rather large area. 1/3 of it is routinely very busy and can be very good income wise (profitable is a different story). The problem with the area is that they take all the drivers and send them out to markets that become saturated. I typically stay in the other 2/3's of the market because the slow restaurants are on the other 1/3 of the market, you keep moving once you start, and traffic does not suffer with major choke points. I also think that this is not a good area for hourly pay. That being said. If DD paid hourly (which is $15-17/hr),it was UNCONDITIONAL and you get paid for the whole time your logged in AND available then I would do it. Being left with the uncertainty of how DD is going to pay & change pay is an issue and seems like it always be.

So I only do pay by hour around 11:30 to 2 am. Where Im located, by 11pm, most restaurants are closed and it’s really just fast food restaurants open, meaning extremely long lines. Easily a 25-30 min wait plus the time it takes to get to the drop off location. If I’m going to be able to do one MAYBE two deliveries in an hour, might as well get the most from it 😇 I definitely take my sweet time and always let the customer know as soon as I get to the spot that the line is super long and it’s moving very slow to avoid bad ratings. Thats the only time I see that it’s beneficial. Also we all know people who order from fast food chains very rarely tip 😖 Once the traffic dies down, I end the dash and jump right back to the original pay by order.

I use the earn by hour feature late at night when nothing but those slow restaurants are open. The rate in my area was as high as $23/hr and it was as high as $26/hr the weekend prior through to July 5th. Also note: if you don’t decline but just allow the clock to run out on your would-be 2nd decline. DD will put you in pause status and it will count as a decline within that hour. The other catch whether you’re earn per or by hour, you can get dinged on acceptance rate because if you decline an order (1st), they will send the same order to you again within seconds if no one else accepts. You decline same order again and your rate is decreased again. It’s a game of hot potato. If I know my delivery puts me in a not so good delivery options, I will go into home screen to set it to auto pause after order is delivered. Then I hustle my way back to where I want to be and then hit resume. It’s insane how much people buy ($20+) but cannot even tip $1. Leave at door to have them open as I’m walking away and say, “thank you”. While I’m glad their grateful but I did just drive 17 minutes to deliver to you. 😳 Another thing….a lot of fast food seal their bags. Dashers ask if everything is in bag. FF says yes. Dasher delivers. Customer realizes food items missing. They will immediately rate the Dasher citing their order was incomplete. The Dasher gets penalized for what the FF place failed in their due diligence. I called DD and explained. They were no help and would not remove that rating or complaint. I went from a solid 5 to a 4.64 rating in a course of 2 hours because of that one customer. DD really needs to set it up where the customer must answer if their bag was sealed by restaurant or not. Then it would not be held against the Dasher. DD is falling behind fast on the current inconsistencies of how places present orders to go.

It seems "almost" worth it in my area if it actually was per hour and not only after you receive an order. Some of the deliveries that I'm on the fence about are like 5-10 mile drives that I'll take if it's a good tip, but some of them take me out to the rural boonies and it's bullshit if I'm basically forced to accept everything and not getting paid for the 5-10 mile drive back to where I can get more orders.

Lol, contractors who earn by time? Those are actually called employees. They’ll come up with anything to not call drivers employees “We’ll pay you less than minimum wage (only for active hours, of course). Oh, and you’re responsible for all expenses and there are zero benefits or protections” Now is a great time for dashers to deliver for a bunch of services at once! Pick up a Doordash order, then keep it in your car for a couple hours while doing Uber eats. Deliver the cold Doordash order and boom, that $3.50 delivery now pays $28.00. The later you deliver it, the more you make! 😂

I'm here in Cobb county (Kennesaw or North Marietta) I like pay per time. In this area it's always $16.75 and I'm also around a lot of college students (Kennesaw State University) when I get a lot of those I chose per time I get $5 per order and I'm literally driving 3 minutes down the street. When I deliver to families or adults that aren't young and broke I get double digit numbers. In 3-4 hours I can get upwards of $100

Thanks for explaining! It just hit my market today. I declined doing the the base pay per hour. I make at least $20 an hour in my area the normal way. It was only saying I’ll make 11 an hour if I did it hourly. Plus my area does not tip well. So I guess it depends on your area. That new hourly option may be good for a booming area and one that tips well.

I live in California so I get prop 22 which is awesome. I'm on vacation in Minnesota and decided to try dashing. I've never seen the pay by hour option because they don't offer that where I live. I tried the paid by hour and it's a terrible choice. The only way the pay by hour would be worth it is if they paid mileage as well. I can't believe that this is even legal for them to not pay mileage on top of the hourly pay. I switched over to pay by offer and I did much better. I don't recommend doing the paid by hour unless it's during rush hour and you take your sweet ass time.

They have it here in atl, it’s only worth it if I drive after 11pm cuz that’s when the waits really turn into hours, but here there’s a risk another driver stole the food so I’d wait just to not deliver aka NOT GETTING PAID for the food or that wait time. So this hourly thing is a bit touch and go, it’s in our best interest to stick to the old way, completely ignore this way, so they find a new way to make it better. I am not an ant

So I work in Maine, which has a very large market area, pay by hour is $15, but I get a good amount of orders that take like 45 minutes to complete, so it does make sense for me. I think it really depends on your community, I’d guess it’s probably not as worthwhile in like Boston.

Definitely felt like they put the really long orders with bad tips that you can’t see beforehand on the earn by hour mode.

Honestly when I do opt for by the hour, Door Dash will send you on 3 to 4 deliveries an hour which is a lot of wear and tear plus mileage on the vehicle. Now a lot of times the orders are close together but only after they see you turn down a high mileage order. I switched the other day to per order. First order 2 miles 14.00$. The hourly here is 14.00 an hour. Now I think this is a way for Door Dash to get more deliveries done and steal tips in the process because on hourly you will not get tips. I have never gotten. Be aware that you will be going nonstop. When you figure up the mileage and gas your spending during that 14.00 an hour pay rate, you have to decide if it's worth it. I plan to do a video today to see if it's worth it here in the Houston inner loop market. We will see.

Paid by time is NOT paid by hour. This option is for when you want to hold a customers order hostage for an hr while you smoke a joint and want to make a certain amount an hr. Also remember to make sure you hit that hr mark, otherwise the money wont be good. A 57 minute order on a Paid by time ($16), can come out to $10-$12. I would keep doing pay by order.
