I used to be a dinosaur main, but after the Cretaceous-Paleogene update, class upkeep and server freezes were too demanding to sustain my T-Rex build. Many of us players tried to keep it going but when the devs removed many of our favorite classes I was SOOO mad!

It took so incredibly long to get the maximum evolution points (for the pre release versions) before the devs were forced to create the Edicarian Expansion which caused the games explosion in popularity leading to the Cambrian Update to compensate for all of the new players at the time.

Seriously though, I am so sick and tired of the devs pandering to the playerbase using the most popular builds! I get that they feel a bit burned from the reaction of the great dying but at some point true fans of the game hope for a bit of artistic integrity. I mean, it always ends badly too. Eventualy even the dinos were removed by several balanced patches and only the flying mains managed to find a new niche. Im afraid that by now the devs just realise that even if we all quit en masse whenever a new extintion patch is brought out, we eventualy come back anyway with new builds. So they just pander to the cash cows that are the meta builds, until it seems all other classes are leaving the game. then as soon as the diversity is almost gone, boom, another exinction... I bet that the human main is next up on the chopping block, and with it all cattle., cat and dog mains will see a mass exodus as well. bah. I mean look at what the devs have been doing. Humans are objectivity the smartest build that has ever existed, but to 'balance' it out the devs gave humies the trait of selective stupidity and refuses to gives us access to the long-term-thiniking trait... I swear this is just a sneaky way for them to eventualy have human mains kill themsleves and most of the current playerbase due to habbitat destruction while being able to pretend they had nothing to do with it. mark my words, them calling the current patch the 'human patch' is just a another smokescreen, soon they'll be nerfed to shit and the devs will pretend tehy hadn't been planning it and it was just emergent gameplay. good thing this shitty game is free I swear.

I wish some company would actually make a game out of earth's history. It would start when everything was primordial soup, just lil bacteria looking bros, then it would play out like the game Spore. Maybe every six months or so the game would update with the world's changes until present day, or it changes every couple days that the player is playing. Different servers for different areas, and guilds for species. Oh amd maybe you can only play online with others when you get to your present-day species. You get to mutate your bacteria bro however you want and eventually become an eagle, cheetah, beetle, frog, whatever. I think that would be so fun! Game over when your species goes extinct but you could start over as whatever you want.

Something interesting that you failed to mention was a seemingly minor but nonetheless impactful decision that separated the therapsids and thus the mammals from other reptile guilds was the decision to keep their hammer and anvil separate bones, giving them a boost to their hearing. The other reptile factions decided that the small boost the decision gave was not worth even the meager cost in evolution points it carried. But by now it has proven that most advanced hearing-based abilities require two-boned ears, leading to nearly all the builds with the best hearing perception belonging to the Mammal guild.

I remember the Great Dying all too well. I'd built up being a giant amphibian before upgrading to the reptiles which got me Dimetrodon and later, the Gorgonopsids which made me happy. Then the Great Dying event occurred and my beloved Gorgonopsid character perished. Since the only Theraspids left were the puny Lystrosaurs and its kin, I got angry and quit the Theraspid faction and defected to the Archosaur faction. I was quite angry at the developers for having The Great Dying event occur. What right did they have to take away my Gorgonopsid character from me?!

there're no old copies of the game, so we've had to use mods to somewhat recreate the older versions of the game, and even then mistakes and errors are made, hence why the aesthetics and appearances of dinosaurs seem to get updated every few years. we get more info that changes how we portray them.

The bad thing about this game is the lack of free content. If you want to continue play and remain conpetitive you have to pay (at least in my class -human). Can I switch class? I have read in the forums that the game is F2P for the other classes, but more grinding and maybe skill. Humans can pay for skill. Developers must make the market to sell only cosmetics (shoes-clothes etc) and no P2W (guns-knives) or food for less grinding. Greedy developers...

This video talks almost exclusively about how the Great Dying patch effected the terrestrial meta, but it's important to remember that the aquatic meta in the Permian revolved entirely around large fish builds, and the devs wanted to make way for the skill trees that would allow reptile players access to aquatic servers, which were rolled out during the Triassic expansion. Although the Great Dying nerfed a lot of terrestrial builds, the biggest nerfs were all on the ocean servers. Several classes and builds were removed entirely, such as trilobites and sea scorpions, and the big fish builds were nerfed enough to allow the new Nothosaur and Ichthyosaur classes to be relevant upon release, to great success, and there was no one class or faction that ruled the aquatic meta during the Triassic, Jurassic, or Cretaceous the way that fish had before then or dinosaurs did on terrestrial servers at the same time. Basically, not everything is about terrestrial servers, patches 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 brought much-needed balance to the aquatic metagame, and the devs deserve more credit for this than you're giving them.

A quick note. There was another balance patch before 1.2.1, a teaser of the triassic expansion in the form of the patch 1.1.6.3 (Lopingian patch), normally it would be a bugfix, but already made a good amount of players to quit, more than half of the players actually, specially on the marine servers and the Therapsids. The 1.3.1 was the nail on the coffin in that sense for mammal's ancestors because the lack of food, because they were already suffering.
