What I love about giygas’s theme is that it’s not bombastic and chest-pounding like “One-Winged Angel” or uptempo and boisterous like “Megalovania”, it’s subtle eerie. Giygas isn’t trying to prove how tough and powerful he is in this battle. He has already become a near- unstoppable force, a being of pure rage and hatred. He is so powerful that he is literally only defeated by prayer- conventional methods such as direct attack are totally no-sold. This theme is not “I am all powerful” It is a being incapable of rational thought, with no motive at all outside of blind, destructive anger for all of reality, lashing out at you and coming very, very close to obliterating you with a swat of its hand

It's crazy to realize that Ness and company technically didn't defeat Giygas themselves; it took literal prayer and divine intervention to do so. That alone is terrifying to think about.

The thing is I wouldn't really call it divine intervention because the god here is the player, Gygas is an all powerful entity but our compassion for the main characters and everyone they've met is what overpowers him. Human compassion is stronger than nihilistic cruelty, I don't find that terrifying, I find it beautiful.

Killing him was not to protect the planet. It was a mercy kill to put him out of his misery. He’s *literally the concept itself of evil incarnate,* but if you read his lore, he’s so much more than just that. Fun Fact: Giygas internally has 20,000 HP, but is programmed to fully heal every turn. The only reason why praying eventually kills him is that it eventually does more than 20K damage in one hit, meaning the heal can't take effect. Theoretically if you had an attack that could deal over 20,000 damage, you could defeat him before it's scripted to, although I'm not sure what kind of glitches this may cause since the game doesn't expect him to die early.

Giygas is kinda closer to what a "hell" actually would be like than almost any other depiction. When hell is shown in a movie or a game, you likely see some fire, some tortured people, but it hardly makes anyone uncomfortable, as television can't stream feelings. The battle feels like you re trapped in a realm of desparation and can only pray to get out, and the game does a great job transmitting the discomfort through video and audio.

Most unsettling video game soundtrack I’ve heard. The exotic chords bouncing around aimlessly in the beginning really detach you from reality in a sedating way. Then you’re slowly pushed into being bombarded with erratic noise. As if some alien is trying to create noises we interpret as danger and panic. But it’s really well done. The awkward cadences, pauses, pulses of nonsense frequencies interrupted by short periods of prayer that bring audible symmetry to re-orient your ears, only to be brought back into the chaos is like audible water boarding.
