The beauty of the Emotions coupled with the flat-out astonishing greatness of Earth, Wind & Fire makes for a memorable treat for ears & eyes alike. The horns! Those amazing costumes! The energy! How anyone can listen to this song without a smile and a desire to dance is beyond me. R.I.P. Mr. White. You truly were one of a kind.

It’s still there. A lot of people forget that while this song was big, along with others, the majority of music played on the radio was forgettable pop songs. Same thing happens every decade. Some great music that runs in niche circles, and generic trash. Classic example led zeppelin. Incredible music. They were not mainstream. They were popular, but except for a few tracks, their general public exposure was limited. There’s some incredible positive music still made today, both electronic and traditional, but you have to dig a little bit for it. A fantastic radio station in Australia. Kiss dance, very low level radio station dedicated Sunday afternoon from about 1pm to about 4-5 pm to “happy radio” hosted by a disabled individual. Usually just great upbeat music. Both modern and retro. There’s an app for this radio station too so you can listen anywhere you want online.

@alphacentauri80834 жыл бұрын
@@elyastoohey6621 I'm referring to the overall climate that music projected. There seemed to be more of a collective vibe to music whereas nowadays a lot of "pop" songs are more or less part of a marketing package, or branding tool for the artist. There's too much of an emphasis on brand self aggrandizement. I mainly listen to atmospheric "dream" pop these days because creativity and originality still flourishes in that scene. The upside of social media venues like youtube is the ability to give super talented artists who are relatively unknown a venue to express their art.
@ChrisDulin4 жыл бұрын
It's just a pop song. There are plenty of pop songs that give this vibe, your perspective is skewed. This is no different than "Down" by Jay Sean; I like to dance, I'm looking for romance, let's do it.

One of the best bands ever ... They were simply ahead of the pack in what they offered which spanned the genres of Jazz, R&B, Soul, Funk, Disco, Pop, Latin, and Afro Pop. What was great was how the band fused its Kalimba sound, dynamic horn section, energetic and elaborate stage shows. Their costumes would sometimes pay homage to the 70's with its Afri-American style and the outlandish Sci-Fi flair resulting of the flood of space movies. Unforgettable is the contrast between Bailey's falsetto and Maurice's baritone. What a band ... 💖

Certainly in the top 10 of the greatest songwriters, arrangers, and producers of our time. I don't think people actually realized the profound impact that EWF music had on American and Global Culture from Europe to Africa in the 1970's thru the early 80's. There music was and still is Fire! It brought unity across all races, ethnicities, and cultures. Not every artist or group can make that claim to fame. EWF music was a Movement, thanks to Maurice.

This song is fascinating when you really put your ear to it. The rhythm carries the melody throughout the entire song. Yet it's never repetitive or overbearing. There's a lot going on within the instrumentation as well as the vocal performances in every section of the song. No part is exactly the same. Everything in this song just seems to totally click. Great composition and recording. It's a masterpiece of our culture.
@kieronjohnson88343 жыл бұрын
I completely agree, it has a stupendous arrangement- that staccato horn intro and the little call and response motif supported by the soaring strings all in the first few bars is breathtaking. It really should be a bombastic train wreck, but the genius of White and Bailey and the rest of the boys along with The Emotions has made it a masterpiece. I couldn't see anyone other than EWF having the musical ability and the balls to pull this off. Only Abba's 'Dancing Queen' comes close in terms of concept and execution.

They are one of the most dynamic down to earth groups that I have ever been around. They meditate not medicate and all about that spiritual awareness even before a show. I have witness this for real. Then they explode onto a stage and have never that I can remember ever given a bad performance. How many groups can say that. That's how tight they were and still are. This genre has definitely gotten a resurgence in popularity, with artists like Dia Lupa, The Weeknd & Anderson .Paak releasing material that heavily draws from 70s-era soul, r&b, disco and pop music. It makes me happy to see younger people digging on sounds like that, because it’s a golden tone indeed. I can only imagine what it would’ve been like to grow up in this era.
This is a perfect example of pure,free musical and physical expression. Raw talent out their doing its thing.

My childhood and my sister's was clean and innocent too. We got lucky. I haven't met another kid, youth, or young adult who is even close to what we were. I've literally seen 11 year old pregnant, 6 year olds cursing, kids disrespecting parents in public with no she, and so much more. Like it's sad. Most of our childhood friends and classmates are mostly on drugs, gangs, in jail/prison, dead, or got pregnant early or something. (ps: I'm not hating on early pregnancies. I support anyone who goes through that. I'm just saying this wasn't the world I saw as a kid. I just turned 20 last month.) 🤦♀️😓🤷♀️🤷♀️💖💖💖💖

The singing is frickin' incredible! I love how the verses and pre-chorus are very "busy", vocally, but then the chorus introduces some _pauses_ in the singing, letting the rhythm section _groove_ you for a bit, like at 2:06, 2:13, etc. _So effective._ Those moments also make the performers' movements look really cool for some reason. Maybe it's because your brain isn't having to concentrate on words/meaning, and is free to simply appreciate the combination of rhythm and movement. Primal, and bloody brilliant.

You know what separates Maurice White from everybody else. Its how much goddamn fun he's having singing and dancing with his family and friends. Look at him, he's having the time of his life on stage. That's why i love him, he puts so much effort into his music. He doesn't hold back. He and his buddies transport you to another dimension. And this dimension is free of all our problems in the real world. Its a world where we can see a black man as just a man. Or a black woman as just a woman. That world may not come around often, but when it does. You never want to leave, i miss Maurice. I love Maurice, I'm going to miss you so fucking much. You will be missed, and forever loved.
