A Crazy Alberto knot. I tie it pretty much the same, only thing I do different is at the end I run the tag end back through the loop 3 times (instead of once). This seems to secure and lock down the knot.

There are great knots for different circumstances, and I have used this knot for years, although it is not going through micro guides as well as the FG knot, and once you learn the FG ( there is an easy way ) it’s not a big deal. I been using this knot since I was 8. I’m now 54. I learn this knot from my dad. He used this to extend his fishing line when he was a teenager that he learned from his dad back home in the Philippines. This is a very strong knot and it’s my go to knot for inshore fishing. But truthfully when it comes to big game here in Chesapeake Bay. FG knot is the way to go and it takes me 3 mins to tie a FG knot.

Albright special. The only downside is that tag end of the leader material is facing forward as the line passes thru the tiptop. On smaller rods it can catch and cause some problems. Strong, simple knot tho.

The main reasons I don't like these folded fluoro knots is that they rely on a loop of fluoro being bound by a knot of braid. The folding creates micro fractures in the line and ultimately results in the fold breaking and the line slipping out of the braid. I prefer the FG or really the SC because these knots do not introduce the same micro fractures. Instead, they rely on the braid biting on the fluoro and securing it in these wraps. You can also torch the end of the fluoro line to create a bead that cannot slip out of the braid. The FG is very complex for most people, but the SC which is just as strong, can be tied in 30-40 seconds.

This is the allbright knot but 2 differences. You went 5 down and 5 back rather than 4 and 8. And when you put the braid back through the loop you need to put it up from the bottom so that both strands of braid are on one side of the loop. If you do that it will be a 70% knot instead of a 50% knot that you tied. Good knot, close to being a very good knot

You can leave a little bit more on the braid tag end in case it slips. Doesn’t hinder it going through the guides just fuzzies up a bit. I’d Moisten it before you pull it tight also.

The knot you just tied is an Alberto knot. It works good, but recommended to to more wraps with the braid to leader. One thing to note, it's a thicker knot than an FG knot, with a bump caused by the double mono or fluorocarbon leader, which doesn't slip through the line guides of your rod as well as an FG knot, which is known for seamless threading through line guides without issues. If you want to improve this knot put the tag end of the braid through the loop in the opposite direction it went through to start so when you cinch it down the lines are coming out opposite sides of the loop then do a uni on top like the ricaso finish on an FG, it stops any chance of slippage

Very good video. I have used the Albright but I will try this next time. Looks easy to tie on a rocking boat. I’m not sure I really trust the FG on hard fluorocarbon. This is a great knot for a top shot but leaving the tag end of the leader exposed to catch on smaller guides makes it less desired than the FG. There are easy ways to tie the FG without having tension on both lines. Both are great knots! With practice, anything can become second nature like riding a bike.

I agree, this cannot be compared to an FG as I commented. Too many videos scaring people about the FG knot, as you said, with no tension at all, no tools, sitting on the sofa. FG is such a strong low profile clean knot, well worth the extra 30 or 60 seconds spent. Just the fact that the FG is 20 to 25% stronger than any other knot is reason enough to use it. Dunno if I tied it wrong but had this know fail twice in a single outing. Also I don't like that the mono is facing towards the outgoing side. But this is easier to tie then the fg knot.

Regarding your statement about the mono/fluoro is facing the outgoing side of the Alberto knot....so true!! Some limp braids will catch on the small tag end of the mono and shred the braid. No matter how close you snip the mono tag, the braid can still snag up on the tag.

When pulling your tag end back through the loop after final wrap, make sure your not overlapping your braid line. Hard to explain but watch vid at end both leader and braid are coming out the loop on same side but side by side. If not, knot will pull out. Also to add a little security, I take the braid end and do a quick double uni knot and pull it tight to first knot. Ive been using this knot for 25 years and only find it fails if I’m not paying attention when wrapping it an EVEN amount of wraps and not pulling it back through correctly. It really is the best knot! Sorry on long winded reply.

Most of the reason for using a mono or fluorocarbon leader on the end of braid is to make the line less visible to fish near or at the tackle that you have tied on. Braid is still visible to fish in the water and some fish can be line shy. Braid also tends to float so using a monofilament or fluorocarbon leader allows the bait to be presented deeper in the water easier.

Good question! if our mainline is braid it is highly recommend to put 1 meter of monoline or fluorocarbon at the end where you put the hooks. this will prevent or lessen the possibility to cut the line with toothy fish

i found out when tying knots down , wetting the knot before tighting it down is the way to do it, but i found a better and safe and stronger way for the knot to last, wet the knot with a pinch of VASOLINE, SEE VASOLINE LUBES THE KNOT , MAKING A BETTER TIGHT KNOT, AND REDUCES FRICTION IN THE MOVING OF THE KNOT UNDER PRESSURE FIGHTING THE FISH.
