We built ours about 15 years ago. For the wire we used aircraft cable. Our trellis is still standing and it makes raising raspberries very easy.

I find it easier to tuck plants behind the wire by gently pulling them to one side and sweeping them under the wire. Less breakage and stress on the plant. Also, gloves come in handy for this job. I tuck them in all summer long as I'm picking or checking for Japanese beetles. Nice video!

Wild turkeys love my raspberry patch. It was here before I puchsed my house in Wisconsin. Now unfortunately the patch is twice as big and literally a mosquito haven. My berries are July bearing which is also unfortunate as it is really hot in July. In order to go in middle of patch to pick berrirs, I've had to use a bug suit. (Like hunters use...pants, shirt with hood and screen over face. Very hot in there too.) I need to make rows though. I also discovered that wild turkeys and their chicks were dining on my fenced in blueberry bushes. Love having wildlife but would really like more fruit to go to me than them. We had a wildlife nursery this year. Started out with a fox family, woodchuck family, raccoon family, turkey family....and most lived in the woodpiled except turkeys just passed through. Deer come by too...eat the birdseed in the feeders. Wish there were bushes to grow that deer could eat in winter...they do like the yew bushes though.

I’ve seen people blow torch the ends of wood before banging in the ground to preserve the wood, is that a thing you have experienced as I did not see you soak the wood with wood preserving

Great video, I'm about to build mine and was wondering if you would recommend concrete around the end posts? Have yours leaned in at all since install? Thanks!

Thanks, glad you found it! Ours hasn’t leaned in *yet*. Concrete could be a good idea if you’re SURE that’s where and how you want it 😊 Over the years I’ve changed so many things that now I’m a little wary of doing anything like that too permanent 😉 That being said you could always dig up the concrete if you ever decided to move it.. it would just be a lot more work. There’s not a ton of tension on those lines either.. it’s not like a clothesline that you’re hanging heavy clothes on. So I’d say it depends on your situation and what you see for the future.

My husband used concrete on all fence posts around our pasture. It just made the post rot where it came out of the concrete. I wouldn't recommend it.

I tried the wires but it damages the plants. I switched to half inch conduit and it works better and lasts longer.

Hey that's a good idea! I didn't have any problems with damaged plants, but my wire was up too high and a bunch of the plants were just falling over.
