I made these for my family for Christmas. One was in a lightweight pale grey for my daughter and was so delicate. One was red and blue striped and chunky for my other football crazy daughter. I will attempt this, although I'm already at the failing door since nobody in the store told me each yarn needs a specific hook, so i have a 2,5-3 hooktype yarn with a 5 hook :"D so the best I could come up for this is double yarn so instead of 3 hoops i have 6, might not have been the smartest idea because now my scarf is rolling up like a snake :"D wish me luck and power and lets hope it will be wearble by the time im done with it.

Yes 100% that is the reason. It’s called gauge in crochet. Big hook big yarn = big scarf same the other way. Great learning opportunity though! Good for you for finishing it. A child might enjoy it!
