Easily and Inexpensively DIY Convert Any Bike To An E-Bike | Pexmor Kit

In this video I will be showing how I used a Pexmore eBike kit to convert my wife's bike into an eBike. The kit is really good, so long as you connect / install everything correctly. This tutorial covers every detail of the process, and includes a brief test drive at the end.
All the parts, including the battery, were purchased for around $300. This makes the kit inexpensive and accessible for most people.

A couple of pointers for you - In the back menus of your LCD Display, you will find one of the options for setting your throttle response. It will give you the option of adding power from 0 mph, 5 mph, with the same power level as your Display is set at (Level 2) or with full motor power for instant response. This is probably in the 'P' Settings but find your Display Model Number & then find the settings for it. Instead of adding thread locker to your front wheel axle, install a torque arm as it will spread the motor forces over the length of your fork. Cost is about $15.00.

That's a cool conversion, and it looks easy! In the future I'll try convert a regular bike to an ebike as well. On the other hand, maybe you can get a half-throttle or a thumb throttle for your wife, she might find it less in the way and will offer a lot of grip.

Glad you liked the video! And it was pretty easy. The hardest part was trying fit everything in her smaller bike frame. The thumb throttle is exactly what I plan to get for her. Then the set-up will be perfect for her.

Because of this video I ordered my front hub conversion kit around Christmas time 2023 I've been riding it off and on for the past couple of months I already have 300 Mi on it it did pretty good for me I had to get a different battery in the battery at 1:00 but the battery goes to a golf cart or a scooter it's way too big bulky it weighs 14 lb so I'm going to try to get the proper battery it's the right voltage and everything was just too bulky of a battery I actually hit 41 Mi an hour on the bike a couple times I usually ride it around 25 to 26 Mi an hour unless I'm getting chased by a dog which happened a couple of times where I had open the throttle up all the way I ride my bike more than I drive my car now

Time for an update on my ebike conversion kit I am at 700 me on odometer since beginning of the year there's a farm I do some part-time work at which is 10 Mi away I do that two times a week I've lost 10 Mi an hour and I think it's cuz of my weight gain I gained some weight that I'm in the process of losing now going back to my original Diet also I think the battery I'm using is getting weak it was used battery from the beginning but I think it's time to get another battery and then bring my weight back down to where it was still having fun with the bike I ride the bike more than I drive my car

That depends on the battery, and on how it is used. The battery featured in this video, if no pedaling was done by my wife, could theoretically carry her for 30-40 miles at 25 mph. However, my wife likes to pedal with the pedal assist , and keeps the motor at a very low level. We did 20 miles and didn't get below full. So I'd wager, that on pedal assist level two (where she likes it), going about 10mph, she could probably get 100 miles or more of range. That number however assumes that she is pedaling the entire time and the motor remains on the low power level of level two.

i looked it up on amazon, reviews say that these kits only give you what u need to set up for the conversion, does not include the battery. be sure to research for batteries compatible with your voltage if you plan on buying one of these kits. im getting the fat tire one for my malus.

Excellent video. I am trying to make a purchase decision and need to know the voltage max of the Pexmor 48V 1000 watt controller. I have looked but cant find any description. May I trouble you since you have the manual? I am looking at battery choices etc.

I believe the Max voltage is 48V. That will pump the speed and wattage up to above what is considered legal for an eBike, at least where I am from. The controller also accepts a 36V source, which is what I used in this video. For my wife, it's more than she ever needs, and keeps the speed/wattage numbers in the legal ranges for an eBike. She can get up to 30mph+ with the set-up from this video. With 48v you could easily do above 40mph, maybe even 50mph.

Thank you for your reply. I was debating between a 48 volt battery and a 52 volt battery. It is my understanding it should be withing range. I just thought since you mentioned when you were referring to the manual about other models that it might be an inclusive manual of all their kits. I thought the manual might have the max voltage of the controller for my type of pexmor kit I mentioned prior. There are now ebike seed limitations where I am at. Feedback welcomed. @@stollo770

I have a question, can the battery be over charged? Some batteries don't have an automatic over charge protection.

It'll work! Hard part for you is going to be finding where on the trike to mount the controller and battery.

Question I have the same conversion kit I have a road master with 26x 1.95 wheels and everything was pretty easy to set up but my bike doesn’t have a place I can mount my battery on the battery I bought for it was an anklous but with that issue and plus my bike not having disc brakes would I need to get a new bike to convert it on? And sometimes the tire would get stuck and studded a bit idk if its because the torque arm wasn’t on or something else

If your bike doesn't have a place to mount the battery, consider installing a cargo carrier over your rear tire. That'll give you plenty of space. Lack of space was a challenge with this bike, but luckily, I was able to mount the battery on top of the frame in a bag.

Is anyone having a problem when your you connect the hailong battery it start sparking when you try to connect it.

It might spark for a second when you connect it to the bike. That's just voltage moving from the battery to the system. Totally normal (unless keeps sparking after you plug it in).

No, you can leave it off and just use the throttle if you want.

Was connecting all the wires on the controller to battery and other parts of the bike relatively easy?

It was. The manual is pretty decent, but the plugs are also all different and color coded. So as long as you are paying a little attention, it is the most amount of easy to get everything connected. The hardest part, at least for me, was zip tieing everything to fit on my wife's smaller bike frame.

It has held up great! Been on the bike for almost a year and still performing like it is new. I will say though, my wife only uses her bike for weekend recreation, not for commuting/daily use.

Is it a 1000w motor and if so whats the top speed

It's a 750W and the top speed is dependent on a few factors. On a full charge, me a 235lb man can get up to 25-ish mph. My 120lb wife can get up close to 40mph. On level ground.

The front wheel drive is horrible for electric bikes especially when you turn on different surfaces

Lots of opinions on this, I guess get the one that's best for you. My wife and I like doing the gravel rail trails and she's always been fine. She has a mountain bike and I didn't want to mess with all the gears and crap. Front wheel drive was easier and cheaper for my needs.

Yes, but it will only work with the throttle.

I don't want to pedal and have motor come on all the time..I want it to be a regular bike and only use the motor when I want the motor with the throttle. People want the motor on all the time with PAS? IS that how it works and why woudl anyone want that...ppoint of the bike is exersise, don't want motor on all the time.

Pedal assistance comes from the motor and the motor needs a battery to function.

@@larryjohns5516 Kit is currently going for around $150. Battery is another $200, but, depending on what model battery you get, it could go up or down. So around $350 for everything, plus or minus $50 depending on the battery.

@@stollo770 you may be confused, because you have to go into the actual settings to change it into mph. it is currently set in kph, and for a 500w motor 30+mph is very unlikely. i have a pexamor kit aswell and it is 1500 watts and it goes 34 mph the fastest.
