Its all math. Figure out the air volume of the space, the weight of the air inside it, the rise in temperature you need, then you can calculate the BTUs you'll need. A small trailer approx. 1K sq ft. with even barely adequate insulation, 30k btu should get it done.

Sometimes my blu-flame heater would squeal and chatter, especially when it was colder (10-30F). It always stopped after a few seconds. Does anyone know why this heater used on natural gas would have a strong gas odor when it shuts down. I don't have any leaks and when I first bought the heater it didn't make the smell. The last two winters it makes the smell when it cycles off. It is just used on a drafty closed in back porch, but I don't like the smell because it makes me think there is a leak, but I know the lines and connections or sealed. I'm thinking it must be the control valve inside the heater not shutting completely off. The main burner does go out and when it is on it has a blue flame as does the pilot light.
@genespell434013 күн бұрын
Your assessment is probably correct. A valve is leaking a tiny amount after you turn it off or if it cycles on and off. The leak can be so small it can't be detected without specialized equipment.

Is it normal to see a haze coming from the top of the heater. Just got it setup and new to using propane heaters. Put a monoxide detector in garage and hasn't went off so im assuming normal? Looks like a blur coming from a car hood on a hot day
@EastTexasHomestead2 ай бұрын
Yes, what you’re seeing is likely normal! That “haze” coming from the top of the heater sounds like heat waves or thermal distortion, which is common when using propane heaters. It’s similar to what you’d see above a car hood on a hot day or over a hot surface-caused by hot air rising and refracting light. It’s great that you’ve set up a carbon monoxide detector in the garage; that’s an excellent safety measure. Just make sure the space is well-ventilated. This is key to staying safe. If you notice unusual odors (like a propane smell) or soot buildup, or if the heater doesn’t seem to be working properly, it’s worth checking the unit or consulting the manufacturer’s manual. But from your description, the haze is a normal sign of heat output.
@alvarezz092 ай бұрын
is there a way to add a gage to the 20 gallon propane tank to see how full it is?
@EastTexasHomestead2 ай бұрын
It really depends on whether your propane tank is filled to the full 20 lbs or if it’s only about 15 lbs-it can make a noticeable difference in how long it lasts. Plus, how hard the heater has to work to get the room up to temperature plays a big role. If it’s working overtime because the space is large or not well-insulated, the propane will run out faster. On average, if the heater runs constantly at full capacity, a 20 lb tank might last around 14 hours. But since it’s thermostat-driven and cycles on and off, you could get more usage out of it.

Take a long lighter and hold the flame on the thermocouple probe that is supposed to be in the pilot light flame. If the thermocouple wears out the pilot light will not light and the thermocouple on your heater may need a flame to coax the pilot light to come on. If not, take it back and exchange it for another one and make videos of your attempts to light it as evidence that it won't work.

How many nights will this heater run on a 20 pound propane tank ?
@EastTexasHomestead Жыл бұрын
It all depends, but a 20-pound LP tank will last approximately 14 hours when running non-stop at a rate of 30,000 BTU per hour. Most of these units will reduce the gas burned with a thermostat and even turn the heater off when the room gets to the desired temp. It could easily last you a week with decent insulation and moderate temps. But if you're trying to keep a non-insulated, large home warm in single-digit temps, it won't last long.

Can anyone tell me why my regulator keeps getting so cold it’s frosting over? I thought I had a bad regulator, so I bought a new one, hooked it up, checked for leaks but even with everything connected correctly it still frosts over. Please help!

I'm guessing by now you found your leak ? 😅 God bless and be safe.

Can you keep the heater and tank inside as long as you get a carbon monoxide detector?
@billm9709 Жыл бұрын
Yes, sir, you can.
@EastTexasHomestead11 ай бұрын
I can't and won't recommend that you keep the tank inside as that violates the manufacturer's instructions. If you choose to do so, be sure you check for leaks regularly with soapy water and don't sleep with the tank valve open. @DrAishaCh

I've been running my heater on NG setting with liquid propane what would that do
@EastTexasHomesteadАй бұрын
no idea. probably not as clean of a burn. I don't think i'd do that

Buy infrared propane heaters only. Addendum. They are much more efficient than the blue flame propane/natural gas heaters.

FYI you are supposed to use the dual regulator. Does it work ok?
@EastTexasHomestead Жыл бұрын
It works great. I didn’t see anything in the instructions about needing a dual regulator. Where are you seeing that?
