Holy cow! I knew the islands are not boater friendly But charging to anchor is crazy especially with no amenities. That was some crazy wind at the end of the video, reminds me of hurricane Gulch.

I don't think they can technically enforce the fees if your just anchored. I wouldn't have paid.

i would have told the harbormaster to fuck off nicely and not paid. if you have no AIS you were a ghost in the night. Its probably that expensive because its a commercial harbor. i was wondering why i didn't have it marked on my navionics

$49 to anchor a 23ft sailboat in a Maui Harbour is an absolute ripoff, shame on them.
@andrewbailey79994 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's insane. Everywhere I've anchored has been free. The only requirement is to check beforehand that boats are allowed to anchor in particular locations, but really what are they charging you for?? They didn't even provide an anchor buoy!
@rickgarland85435 жыл бұрын
That was a strange way to end the video. Paying to anchor a boat shouldn't be legal! I have been on the water my whole life never heard of anyone having to pay to anchor. Love your videos I have a small 22ft Kell's sailboat I live on in Maine and I plan on sailing south with it so your videos are helping me out slot thank you for putting them up

Do those rocker stoppers work? I used them twice. 1st time it was super calm so pointless 2nd time a ton of current so they just pulled on the anchor more

Switch to the other side of the island and anchor in Maalaea Bay. Pretty sure there is no charge. Seen a few cruisers there. Still have access to shopping transit etc.

I can't get over your dinghy! I have one that I got as a dinghy but I got wet every time I tried to use it. I now have an 8ft fibreglass punt which is horrible to tow behind the 23ft I live on, but good as a tender. Did you do anything to make the small dinghy more stable?

Like I said in the comments I have a small 22ft Kell's sailboat not as nice as yours but it's a nice home and I live in Maine and next year after doing some work refitting I want to sail south. You should not dive in Wailuku Harbor. It's a known nightmare of nasty and offensive organisms and other chemical compounds. People generally avoid swimming in the water from that harbor.

It's a shame that they are so unforgiving with such things as not calling the day before you arrive. They do realize that sailing is somewhat variable and everyone doesn't own a huge luxury yacht with powerful motors etc. Just sounds like they are totally trying to make money...especially just to freakin' anchor....give me a break!

Harbor fees... don't suppose they want to run you off? Sure, you'll bring in some money to the town, maybe a hundred bucks, tops. They figure if you had another 20 feet of boat you wouldn't mind what likely is a hundred a night and five hundred in partying ashore and maybe even some fuel... In short, they don't need your trade. Should have mentioned your KZbin channel to the harbormaster and how all your thousands of viewers were enjoying sharing your experiences in Hawaii. I'd wager his tune would have been sweeter.
