I buy bulk ascorbic acid to dechlorinate water for my fish tanks. But it has other uses! After bathing I dissolve a small amount of vitamin C and niacinamide powder in distilled water, (I use a small wasabi/soy sushi dish to do mixing) add a few drops of lanolin oil for ceramides, vitamin E to stabilize the vitamin C, carrot oil for vitamin A, and 7-12 pumps of Equate brand CeraVe. Stir it until its mixed and has a serum feel to it, and apply it all over my body. It's inexpensive, super fresh and only adds a few minutes to my after bath routine.🌱

@@LabMuffinBeautyScience not op but also very keen for this! I would like to know: - best practice wrt basic care, eg what damages nails, how to maintain healthy nails (especially when one works with cleaners, or gardens, or as a mechanic, and other hand-intensive work), different types of nails (eg my sibling has mega thick nails - they're almost claws - whereas mine are quite weak) - mythbusting, eg do nail strengtheners work, will it damage them to have them constantly painted/covered with acrylics, can you tell if someone's malnourished by the lunula or white patches or cloudiness (a common thing that my mum's naturopath frequently said) - how to recover from damage, eg injuries, infections, whether nail beds can recover from a lifetime of chewing (that one is not at all personal >.>) there's, uh, a short list for you? lol. it's not your main area of interest, of course, so i'd equally appreciate recs for scientifically-focussed sources. i don't really know enough about it to figure that out for myself and i trust your judgement ^_^

It's a weak, ineffective derivative that is poorly absorbed and doesn't really get into the skin. It has shown to somehow help with acne and likely can act as an antioxidant but don't count on it for anti-aging, collagen-boosting effects, or anything else you'd want from vitamin C. I.e., look for a better version of vitamin C, ideally sticking with stabilized l-ascorbic acid.

Thank you for a wonderful video! Very informative! A couple of years ago I heard a dermatologist talk about the ABC of skincare. “A” for vitamin A or tretinoin, “B” for vitamin B or niacinamide, and “C” for vitamin C. The derm basically the “A” was best and most effective for the skin. I use the first two (A and B) and they work wonderfully. I tried for a few years to use vitamin C and it didn’t do anything for my skin. I made sure I used the ascorbic acid version and tried inexpensive to expensive versions, water based and oil based and didn’t see any change. I’ve seen pretty major changes in my skin with using vitamin A. And vit C can be quite expensive. With the vitamin A my insurance covers it. It’s been well worth it for my skin.

Same here. I did a lot of research and chose a pretty pricey Vit C serum, which I used religiously every morning after cleansing, for over 3 months. I saw zero difference in my skin. Been using Retin A for about 5 years now, with excellent results, and figure the other skin care products I use have the antioxidants I need. Won’t be buying any more Vit c serums.

Pretty sure you aren't supposed to use any type of retinoid if you're pregnant or planning to get pregnant. Besides, most people use topical vitC specifically to target hyperpigmentation spots, and in some countries tretinoin is prescription-only; lack of accessibility is the biggest reason others turn to other ingredients to do fairly similar effects.
@NicePerson58
@NicePerson58 2 жыл бұрын
@@quillpen815 hyperpigmentation can be treated by using other ingredients such as arbutin, kojic acid, licorice root, niacinamide, etc. For women who get pregnant, there are other ingredients that can help for anti aging such as Alpha hydroxy acids. 9 month pregnancy without using Retinoid is okay. After they are giving birth, just use it back.

I might have had a bad experience with Paula’s choice one. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve opened the bottle for about 3 months and products were oxidised. It was super irritating that my eyes and face were swollen for a few days...at the time, I thought it was just allergy or hay fever (but I’ve never had allergy of any kind) and I went back using it and boom...my face was swollen again with impaired skin barrier😵 it took me two weeks to heal. When I googled my symptoms, I also saw a reddit thread saying vitamin c serums could cause corneal erosion if not used properly around the eye area...I NEVER thought of that!

Missha also has a vitamin c product that allows you to mix the powder in once it arrives. I just ordered it and I reaaaally hope the scent is as light and citrusy as other people describe it as.

Eucerin has excellent new packaging solution for vitamin C (with powder activation). It doesn't oxidize with easy video instructions as to how to use it without compromising it at all. Using it for months.

I’ve tried sooo many ascorbic acid serums, and usually my skin can’t handle them. I’ve come to realize that the most effective and tolerable of them for me is the Drunk Elephant one. Now that they’ve dealt with the freshness issue of it, i’m more inclined to do a last effort and see if i’ll work as a part of my longterm routine. Had almost given up on vitamin c for me, but it’s such a great ingredient that i just can’t not use it.

Following your previous posts on Vitamin C I started using it every morning. First using your DIY recipe (it's great for slowly ramping up the concentration), and then I found a local skincare company that produces their ascorbic acid serums every 2 weeks to make sure it arrives fresh. The formula seems pretty generic with ferulic acid, glycerin, sodium hyaluronate, and panthenol - but it's 15% at

Yay I'm glad you liked it! That sounds like a really good way to ensure freshness :)

@Doll Sure the company is BasicLab (based in Poland, as am I), and the serum is called "Serum z witamina C 15%" That being said, the main reason I went with them was because I was concerned how imported vit c serums (for example Paula's Choice, which doesn't have its own store over here) might sit in a cold/hot warehouse for unknown amounts of time - unless I bought it directly from them, in which case I'd know it was a couple days I guess. But with something that perishes relatively quickly, I just didn't want to pay the extra 15 EUR for shipping every 3-4 months. Then again, BasicLab also seem to charge about 15 EUR for shipping across Europe (except Norway and Great Britain), so I feel like you're not much better off ordering from them.
