You know, I was checking out how to make a pie crust with a food processor and thought it would make the whole "process" faster. I did everything but the food processor just suddenly quit. I checked it all over and it turned out the processor looked real nice but was a cheap knock off. The motor burned up. I called the seller and I called the company and they wouldn't do anything. I told them that's what this is for, it's not supposed to be cheaply made. I think it even was a good name brand but they just wanted to sell a bunch to people - so you might warn people cuz that's what happened to me.

Thank you for your pie dough and apple filling. I have cooked when I was young, but am 76 years old now, and feel very nervous about my apple pie for my nephew because he helped me with my patio garden. I feel better; your information is totally inclusive re everything to take into account. Thank you so much. I look forward to the best pie ever. Even when I was young, I used to tell people, You don't have to eat the crust; but it is needed to hold the pie together. Those were the days. 😂😂😂😂🥧🥧🥧

I made a pumpkin pie with homemade crust and took it over to my sister-in-law's house. I went over to her trash can and was going to scrape off some crust left in the pan. She said, what are you doing? I said, throwing this crust away. She said oh no you aren't, that's the best part! So funny.

This turned out very well despite being the first pie crust I have EVER made, as good as the stuff they sell for $7 per slice at my local pie shop. Just be sure to take your dough out 90 minutes before rolling, as it's still solid as a rock after the 5 minutes stated in the recipe.

Also I'm so glad to see you remove the dough from the food processor (before) adding the liquid; because the liquid can hide underneath the blades and you can think the dough needs more liquid, when actually there is a little puddle under the dough. I just did this recipe for homemade meat party pies. They look so good, I just chucked them in the oven. The filling is slowcooked thinly sliced chuck steak, portabello mushrooms, red onion, salt, pepper, pinch of cayenne pepper, garlic powder and Vegeta stock powder. Cooked for 6 hours. The liquid produced during this c ooking was reduced and mixed with flour cooked in butter to make a gravy that was mixed with the beef and vegetables which was put in the pie crust and is cooking now. Looks nice!

I've seen so many pie crust videos. This one was so succinct and easy to understand. One question: What is the purpose of adding the flour in two parts?
@inspiredtaste8 жыл бұрын
Hi there, We go into this more in our recipe post on our blog, Inspired Taste. Here's a little snippet from it to explain: "if you thoroughly mix part of the flour with the fat (butter) and make a flour-butter paste first, every particle of that flour becomes coated in fat. Think of each particle of flour with butter raincoats. These raincoats make it very difficult for the flour to absorb water. In other words, it helps to prevent the development of too much gluten.Then, you can add the remaining flour so the perfect amount of gluten develops. This means perfect pie crust, every time." You can read more by clicking the following link: www.inspiredtaste.net/22662/flaky-pie-crust-recipe/

I’ve used it many times but I’d like to ask you why is it that when I go to role the dough after it’s been in the fridge it always crumbles and falls apart all the time. I have to keep mending it and it’s hard to pick up because it falls apart. Am I doing something wrong? I’ve tried putting more water but then it gets harder.

I can't wait to try out this recipe! I have been trying out different recipes, and I have yet to find success in making the right pie crust. The problem I've always had is that my crust ends up being tough and has more of a bread-like product...what in the heck am I doing wrong?? I am so close to giving it up, but I know there is something that I'm missing, and if only I can find it, I will be ok. I don't handle the dough too much, either, but I still get the same result. :(

I realize this is several years later to your response, but along with keeping a light hand, sprinkle as lil flour as possible when rolling out. Less is always best. Also use ICE cold water. I add ice cubes to water before assembling/mixing pie crust, even sticking water in refrigerator w/cubes in it to keep it really cold. It gets better too the more practice making pie crust. Don't give up! Hope these tips help someone! 😊

Hi thank you great recipes. If you're using a measuring cup regarding the flour why are you using a scale also I'm confused with that? New to the channel but so far I like your videos 👍🏼
@inspiredtaste4 жыл бұрын
We like to use a scale to make sure we are getting the correct amount of flour. It is a great thing to double check if you have a scale on hand. Volume (cups) is a very different measurement to weight (grams). Flour can vary in its weight quite a bit. For example, if you smoosh your flour into your measuring cup it might end up being more flour than you think. If you use a scale you will catch this easy to make mistake.

Tried this recipe yesterday. Was delicious! I am wondering if the method would work the same with solidified but somewhat soft coconut oil, since you're coating the flour in the fat with the first mixing? Hmm. I did have trouble rolling out the dough, as the edges were becoming frayed and ripping really badly while I did it. I'm still new to pie dough, so am trying to see how to roll it out so it doesn't do that. Any suggestions? Thanks for the great recipe!
@inspiredtaste7 жыл бұрын
We've never used coconut oil to make pie crust, but I bet you can get away with it. Use it in it's hard/scoop-able state (not when its liquid).

I found a great coconut oil pie crust recipe that I used last year, but for some reason I can't get it quite right this year. I'll try this method with coconut oil next time I make a pie dough and let you know! :) I did make this with the butter (actually used about 3 tablespoons less) and it came out great! Nice and flaky...delicious. Thanks :)

Still having trouble with it ripping while rolling out, no matter how much water I put in. I've left it out for a little longer, which seems to help but still don't get a perfect rollout. Have watched videos and tried different methods for rolling it out. I take pieces from the outside and patch them up after putting it in the pie plate. It turns out great, but it's very frustrating when rolling it. I think I may just be cursed, lol

Thank you for this. But the problem with me is that the recipes always say, "Put in x tablespoons of cold water and maybe more if necessary" My experience is that twice as much is needed. In this case, not 4 but 8. Are 4 tablespoons needed or 8? Definitively say which so I am not left wondering, "Did I put in too much?" "Maybe I should have more faith that it will work out with only 4 instead of 8?" Things like that.

I think as usual it has to do with your climate ,if you feel you need more go with it aswell as all your recipes although warm water might make the difference. I as most will use warm water apposed to cold not sure why it works better,pie crust is a finicky pastry though I might add not sure about the science as it definitely is about science. I was never a fan to pie crusts from scratch as I could never get it right.I believe from all my bread making from South to the north ,that climate is a fact with oven and water temperature goes. I will add pie crust usually ask for cold water,not sure why other than the fact it must have something to do with refrigeration after the mixture it goes in a cooler ,why don't know.love the recipe though.I too need to double the water and I'm on the west coast of van B,c,
