Hi Sweet Friends, Today I am sharing a recipe with you for how to make an Easy Beef and Barley Soup. It's easy because you use a bone-in roast instead of having to brown individual beef cubes. Plus, since the roast has a bone in it, it doubles as a quick and easy way to add a bit of bone broth into the soup! Enjoy!! Love, Mary

Another good recipe Sweet Friend. I used a left over rotisserie lemon pepper chicken to make chicken soup tonight. My son has had the sniffles so I'm being proactive before it runs thru the whole house. Missouri can be misery in the weather department. Hot one day and cold the next and we had a lot of rain. Have a good week Mary. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Lulu, I like both Stuab and Le Cresuet. Staub is nice because it has a dark interior so it doesn’t discolor over time. However, my Le Creuset is old and I understand that the new ones - with the light interior - are made in a different way so as to not discolor. Glad to hear that you like this recipe! 😂 Obie! He sure heard you talking about him. Mary this soup looks absolutely wonderful, it’s almost tea time here and it’s a cool day, so this soup would have been perfect. I will have to make this one soon.

Moat Cottage - Hi Elissa, it really is delicious. Also, do you have Worcestershire (spelling??) Sauce in Australia? A few shakes of that into the soup is wonderful. It really compliments the beefy flavor. Love, Mary - PS....We are in full blown Fall here. It has been rainy for a week which has caused some wide area flooding 😕 however, it has also brought us out of our drought. And luckily, we are on high ground and two streets up from the lake. Now if we can just get our roof to stop leaking...ugh!!😓😓😓

Mary's Nest yes we sure do have WS here, I believe it’s English, & I have some in the pantry. I spend my life waiting for the rains to arrive and when it actually comes, I am on leak watch. It’s hard to fix because you have to wait so long for the next rain to see if you’ve actually fixed it and then it can be the angle of the rain. Fun and games on the homestead. Do you get the fall leaves there?

Mary's Nest it’s simmering now and I’ll let you know how it comes out. I browned some Ox Tail bones (in a pan) and added to the broth. The Barley I have is not pearled so I have to look up how to cook that.
@MarysNest5 жыл бұрын
surfnyolly - Yes, that is a good question. I think it needs a long cooking.
@surfnyolly5 жыл бұрын
Mary's Nest it took a good 45 mins for barley to cook. But the broth is flavorless. Next time I’ll brown the ox bones in oven. I added worshteshire, S&P, 1 bayleaf, and some more fresh thyme, parsley and rosemary. (I used low sodium organic broth so that prob didn’t help). Next time I know!

I love the Muir Glen brand of canned tomatoes too… it seems saucier and richer. (but don’t tell them, they may up the price.) xoxo

Oooohhhh my sweet friend Mary!!! It is DEFinitely *SOUP SEASON*!!! Temps dropped from 110 one day to 50 the next. I have always heard it said: *If you don't like the weather in Michigan, wait 5 minutes, it will change.* And your soup looks SCRUMPTIOUS and WARMING!!! By any chance, did you buy your mortar and pestle at Bed, Bath & Beyond? Mine looks exACTly like yours, same color, too! :-D
