I just finished making my grandmother a set of these because she loves chickens! It's the only crochet project I've ever stuck to and finished. I've tried to crochet for years but no videos I ever watched made sense to me. This was so clear and easy and you counted the stitches which was something I struggled with. Thank you for being a great teacher! I think I found a new favorite hobby!

For those like me who have ADD or just like reading the instructions while following along here is my transcribed version (because I know I will be doing these over and over again) (SC- single crochet HDC-half double crochet DC- double crochet) Slip knot Row 1 Chain 4- slip stitch into first chain to make ring Chain 1 (doesn’t count as stitch) 12 DC (3 per chain) Slip stitch into first DC not chain Row 2 Chain 1- 2 DC into slip stitch 2 DC into every following stitch Slip stitch into first DC Row 3 Chain 1- 1 DC into slip stitch 2 DC in next stitch then 1 DC into the next repeat around row Slip stitch into first DC Head Chain 1- 1 SC into slip stitch then 1 HDC and 1 DC into same stitch 6 DC into next stitch In next stitch 1 DC then 1 HDC then 1 SC 4 SC in next 4 stitches Feathers Skip 1 stitch 5 DC in next stitch (Skip 1 stitch- SC in next stitch 5 DC in next stitch) repeat for 6 feathers Skip 1 stitch- slip stitch into next stitch Tie off and clip yarn Red rooster crow Begin in 1st SC of head Yarn through and chain 1 (In same SC do SC then HDC then SC in one stitch Skip stitch) repeat for 5 head arches Cut and tie off yarn to hide later Red chin waddle In last stitch of head pull yarn through Chain 1- 1 SC in same stitch 1 HDC in next stitch 1 DC in next stitch 1 SC in next stitch Slip stitch into next stitch Cut and tie off yarn to hide later Yellow beak 1st stitch above waddle pull yarn through Chain 2- SC in 1st chain Slip stitch back into initial chain Cut and tie off yarn to hide later Eye With tapestry needle and black yarn sew in eye from back side

I’m so excited to make these! I have four chickens and I’m going to make each of them as coasters❤️ I’m hoping the Joann closest to me has lily sugar n cream in overcast because it would be perfect for my lil barred rock babies! I’m excited to experiment and see if I can freehand some feathers for my rooster’s tail! The hardest will be my all black girlie who also has a black beak and very dark eyes 😅

Love the pot holder and now the coasters. I had even sewed two of the pot holders together ( I did use a few HDC and DC to form a wider bottom so the chicken could actually sit up after I stuffed it with poly fill. I made it into a stuffy for my 4 year old grandson).
