What I love about a lot of these recipes is they are personal taste. For me no cheese (lactose intolerant) ,along with the potatoes add carrots, celery. At the end of cooking I would take everything out to rest I'd add a corn starch slurry to make a gravy.
@PoeLemicАй бұрын
Agree 100%. Also, maybe, remove the fat and pre-sear the meat. I think it'd taste even better. But, again, you evolve to be better cooks (like you have) after much trial and error.

Use a packet of dry onion soup instead of the French onion cans of soup, instead of Butter and cheese, add some carrots and mushrooms .. and a can of cream of mushroom… it will be like stew. Made it a hundred times. You can server over small pasta or rice or eat it with a chunk of crusty bread

Why do some people feel the need to leave such critical and nitpicking comments on cooking videos. She's giving you a blueprint. Broad strokes...adjust recipe to your own taste morons. Don't have to follow it exactly. That's part of the fun. Chill out.

That’s not skin. It’s a small amount of fat. And she left it on purpose. It helps to tenderize the meat.
@SisyphusInTexasАй бұрын
Silverskin is almost pure collagen and fat, both bring health to the party. Some people don't like the membrane on the bone side of pork ribs (texture). I ALWAYS leave it because it helps keeping the ribs from falling apart and provide pure collagen. If you wanna remove it with the flavor it imparts, knock your lights out!

Cheese is good for a Chicago beef sandwich , in my opinion. Never seen it for a roast and it disappeared. Not too sure about the use of butter adding to the dish(“‘death on a plate”). Surprised potatoes were so crunchy after 2-3 hours. I like vegetables including potatoes to have some bite to them. If cooking on the stove , I add them the last 20-30 minutes. What do you do if use a crock part on low(x6-8 hrs)or high (x 3-4 hrs) ?
@chrisunderwood2524Ай бұрын
Why are so many videos on crock pot cooking are not putting the meat on the bottom first then the vegetables on top..my big crock pot directions say to put the meat on the bottom then the vegetables on top pour in liquid just enough to cover the vegetables ...wouldn't the vegetables on the bottom be very mushy..doing it that way...just wanting to know???
@gigiw.7650Ай бұрын
I'd put the onion first then the meat then veggies 😄
@historybarfАй бұрын
Very mushy
@PoeLemicАй бұрын
@CU ... Because she is braising the meat, not stewing it. It is allowing the meat to both stew on bottom and roast on top, giving it more time for fat to break down.
@rileynorrie303921 күн бұрын
Know when you use a Crock-Pot you always put the vegetables on the bottom ever since they were invented I've used a Crock-Pot I know you that you put the vegetables on the bottom otherwise they will not cook on top
@historybarfАй бұрын
The whole point of a crockpot is to cook low and slow. 8 hours on low. It makes the meat just pull away with a fork. I bet that roast was tough to chew.
@conniejenni5504Ай бұрын
You are exactly right. Not to mention the fact that especially on high, the potatoes turn to mush. On low, with an eight hour cook time… Put the vegetables on top and around the sides with three hours of cooking left. And always always season the meat. Also, with no carrots, and no celery, there is no brightness to the dish. Also, two cans of French onion soup and a gigantic onion basically just gives you a mouthful of too much onion.
@Jeeazz2012Ай бұрын
That's not true, I've cooked alot of roast on high and they were very tender and fell apart. Cooking on high in a crockpot is used if you need your food done in a shorter time, but it has no different effect on the meat than cooking on low.
@historybarf29 күн бұрын
@ how long did you cook it on high?
@barbarakloise6790Ай бұрын
I would have poured a can of that soup on the meat with more garlic for sure. But that is just me. You guys do you. I don't think everything needs cheese. Nowadays. It just adds more calories and I just don't. I think it's necessary, but again you do you.
@conniejenni5504Ай бұрын
French onion soup is so overpowering. It is better to use a packet of nor vegetable soup seasoning. Between the French onion soup and the gigantic onion… Basically you’re getting a mouthful of too much onion.
@BobwMorfordАй бұрын
She did say to cook it on HIGH for 2 1/2 to 3 hours

That’s not nearly long enough. Low on 8-10 hours and high on 5-6

I've intended to test whether or not, like this example, seasoning individual items makes any difference. But I haven't... that French onion soup has a lot of flavor.... i figure unless you put enough seasoning to overtake the soup...in either case whatever seasoning added is being added to the whole thing, not just the meat....I *think* if I wanted to meat to have something different than the dish... perhaps I'd brown it with some other seasoning before adding it with the other components.... donno... when I actually try cooking... I'm usually hungry and am just trying to hurry so I can eat.... there's a reason my wife doesn't like me cooking... LoL
