Are comments turned off, Kieren?

Ah! Replying to your pinned post works. Just wanted to thank you for this warm-up session. It was so helpful.

Really weird, I can see all your comments!

Going to try this in the morning. My usual go to method to jump start when the words aren’t coming is to do what I call the Hunter S Thompson method. He wrote out the Great Gatsby multiple times to know what it felt like to write a masterpiece. I find if I start typing out a paragraph or two of my fave novels it “tricks” my brain into thinking I’ve hit flow and I can just continue on my project with ease.
@KierenWestwoodWritingАй бұрын
That's an interesting idea! I might try that sometime too!

Great set of exercises and it’s a masterstroke to make the video realtime and so therefore actionable. Definitely saving this one to return to. Thank you Kieren.
@KierenWestwoodWritingАй бұрын
It’s useful for me to do the exercises too, plus it just feels smoother than getting you to pause and rewind etc! I’m glad the format worked for you. Thanks for watching ☺️

@@KierenWestwoodWritingyes. It ruins the flow when you have to stop and go. But these KZbin ads. Seems like they're adding more and more. Nice video.
@KierenWestwoodWritingАй бұрын
Oh no! Sometimes KZbin splices in more, I'll check to make sure that hasn't happened. THanks fr letting me know.

Thank you for this video. It's usually really hard to know where to start in a writing session since I write out of order and this really helped a lot. Make more videos like this! Might help me get through writing a whole book haha.

Great! I'm glad it helped, I'll definitely be making more of this kind of thing!

I'll have to do it again when I'm more awake, but even half asleep...this was really helpful. You've got me thinking about aspects to scenes I'd been overlooking. Sometimes I get so caught up in dialogue I miss important details. I do find that different characters notice different things. I love your idea of stepping into the story and eaves dropping. I often eavesdrop from a sort of cosmic position, but I rather like the idea of mentally putting on a costume and landing in the story to get a more visceral sense of what's happening. Thanks for sharing! :)

Thanks for watching! Yeah, I find just changing the angle or the framing of something can make you see it differently at times.

These exercises are awesome! I don't think I've seen anyone on KZbin creating this type of writing videos. And these exercises are the only thing that make me comfortable with creative writing. You are exceptional, man. Thank you so much

Thank you, Kieren. Just done some free writing. I like the gentle music which plays during the exercises. What is it?

I think in this one it’s The Alabaster Coast by Hanna Lindgren. I got it from Epidemic Sound but I’m sure you can find their music elsewhere too!

Seriously helpful. Thanks Kieren. I'm planning 3 short Christmas-linked stories about time. I now have the titles: No Time Like the Present; Timing is Everything; and Continuum. For the first story, this warm-up session has also given me ideas about setting, two timelines: early Victorian and the present day, two characters, girls separated by time, from the same family with the same name. The differences and the similarities between them, and a - as yet - nascent revelation/twist. Notes were handwritten. I'll be back.

You will legit feel stupid watching the video play and not write anything 😅😂😂. I thought he's going to ask us to pause and play after we do the exercise, he literally followed us along, I jumped out of my bed to put down something, Guys don't save the video for later, get up and pick your pen and paper, write 💪
