The dyson website had showed holding the conical top filter by holding the entire thing under running water - they NEVER showed or explained that it could be taken apart. My dyson's top filter was all caked up with dry, frequently-washed crud. Now the vacuum works, thanks to your demo. Many thanks.

My Dyson was only pulsating on the high setting. After removing the cylindrical filter and testing it, the pulsating stopped. Your step-by-step instructions were incredibly helpful and reassured me that I was on the right path! Prior to watching your video, I had dismissed the filter as the issue because it looked pristine on the outside. I didn't realize that the filter was hollow and could be filled with fine dust, unlike other vacuum filters I was used to that captured dust on the exterior baffles. Your guidance saved me from making a trip to the local repair shop for a simple (but previously unknown to me) fix. Thank you!

Clogged filter may have done the trick for me! I started out with a failed original battery. Dyson wanted something around $120 for an OEM, but like you said I was able to buy a (larger) battery for $32. It was kind of strange that the "pulsing" only started after I got a new battery. Thinking there was a problem with the new battery, I wound up returning it and getting a replacement. When there was the same behavior with the new battery, I knew that wasn't the problem. But, when I removed the filter, the pulsing stopped. So, I've cleaned that out and am assuming that was the problem.

Nice! Hope it works now.

@@PracticalMechanic What I'm thinking is that the new battery is working so much better than the old one that lost its ability to hold its charge, that the obstructed airway now really causes a problem (the air is being pulled hard enough that the restriction is causing a problem.) This means I've been working with 1/2 a vacuum for who knows how long!

That makes a lot of sense, good luck!

Even if taking the filter out makes it work, that might not be your issue I took the filter out and it works, but the issue was actually some hair and other stuff in the inlet pipe - guess the filter + blockage was restrictive enough to trigger the safe guard, but just the blockage alone wasn't.

the pulsing only occurs when the long attachment with the roller is attached---why would that happen?
@PracticalMechanicАй бұрын
Perhaps there is a blockage in the long attachment somewhere?

My v8 only does that when I attach motor head. I took Motorrad apart but no luck...hmm
@PracticalMechanic10 ай бұрын
This sounds like a bad motherboard. This is a somewhat common issue with these units. You can replace the motherboard, and this should fix the issue. Another approach I have heard is bypassing the protection circuit board. In other words, hardwire the battery directly to the motor. If you want to try that, proceed at your own risk: 1. Remove the battery. 2. Open the back of the unit so you can see the motherboard. 3. Disconnect the black and red wires coming from the battery. 4. Locate and disconnect the small red and white wires (may need to pull the motor out a bit). 5. Connect the small red wire to where the large red wire attaches. 6. Connect the small white wire to where the large black wire attaches. 7. Reassemble. Now when you pull the trigger, power goes directly to the motor and ignores the protection circuit. Because of this, release the trigger if the motor ever gets clogged or bogged down, otherwise you can potentially burn out the motor. Hope this helps, please like and subscribe! And let us know how it goes!

IMO, Dyson is simply an overpriced piece of junk. When they work as advertised, they are great. However, this is so seldom the case. Bad batteries, clogged filters , cracks in the plastic and several other issues are the norm. I've owned four of them and all have been troublesome. Never again will I purchase any Dyson product. Buyer be aware.
