Check out this alternate version of a French Braid we came up with! kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn3QfZWaqd53j5Y

Hi Zach. Great tutorial. Having been a longarm quilter for 21 years I suggest talking about all the bias,edges in a French braid quilt and be very careful about stretching the edges. Ruffled edges are almost impossible to quilt without making pleats. Measure the braid and cut the sashing the same length and ease any fullness into the seam.

I like this method rather than using a template, as you need to make right and left sides. I make alot of patriotic vet quilts and I have so much scraps. As long as I cut fabric strips 2/12” this would work for a scrappy quilt. What do you think?

I got a binding ruler, with a 45°at one end. I cut my braid pieces with the 45 on one end, with the strips still folded, to get left and riht facing pieces, stacked them separately, canged the top one. I started with a partial seam and no square. Al the sides were straignt from the 45 angle. When I got to the end, I cut the top straight, and added the off-cuts to the beginning. No waste? I think so.

Love this! How are you estimating your backing fabric size, please? Your written pattern calls for 4 7/8 yars, however this is the calculation that i came up with: 53+79+12 (not long arm) = 144". Dive by 36= 4 yards. Could you please clarify?

Good morning, I watched the tutorial on the french braid pattern. I like the looks of this and so, i started mine a few days ago. I did one strip and found fabric wastage on the top where i square off. I started my second strip and i am now calling it "Rapunzel's French Braid" only because I'm just continuing until I run out of my fabric choices cuts that i made. Then it will be one trim on the bottom and one trim at the top and anything else in between will be trimmed to lenght of my choice. I don't know why but i tend to make big quilts for queen or king size beds. So in conclusion, mine is a "Rapunzel's Braid" I hope this helps other quilters out there.

What is the difference from your braid as opposed to the chevron table runner? Your colors are striking that you used. Thanks for this.
@SewYeah2 жыл бұрын
Hello! They are very similar. The Chevron quilt usually comes into a "V" at the end whereas the French Braid "overlaps." That's the main difference. Happy quilting!

Love the videos you guys do....easy for this newbie to follow. Just one question: what is the size of the quilt? Tutorials and patterns don't always tell you.

Hello! This quilt is approximately a twin size quilt, but you can adjust the pattern to suit your needs. Thanks so much for watching!

Thanks Zack for the easy to follow video. My first braid came out great but the cut size will be 7.5" instead of 6.5. Hesitant to keep going until I figure out where the extra inch came from! Any ideas?

Probably just got a little off on several places. And then it adds up. Takes a lot of practice I guess!!!
