I wonder about using the regular clear antiquing wax (also expensive, but you need such a little bit) and, instead of the mica powder, eyeshadow---which is really cheap at $Tree. I have used the eyeshadow by itself on paper to add pink cheeks to some cheeky cherubs! See how you inspire us all to think outside the box, Deirdre!

I guess it really depends on where you are buying. Rub n Buff on Amazon in the US is like $8-10 dollars for a single tube and $20-25 for a pack of 4! Plus Michael's carries it for like $12 regular (I got mine on a 60% off weekend for $5) So while I love this idea in theory, unless you happen to have shoe polish (and I don't know anyone who still polishes their shoes) buying the ingredients for the hack would cost WAY more and I'm not sure about the quality or longevity.

Where we’re at, a tube is $6.99 at Hobby Lobby, and a dollar fifty or so more at Michael’s.

But if I already have most of these items, then a $6 tin of shoe polish would be awesome to make small amounts of multiple colours, instead of spending 6-10$ on one coloured tube. But I love finding recipes to make my own supplies so I personally love these diy recipes 😊
