More theory videos. You explained that very well and helped me expanded on some of the knowledge I already had about building scales and Keys signatures. It would be cool if you can make some more in depth and practical foundational ones like this one.

This is great for beginning musicians. I definitely suggest doing more, maybe in weekly, or monthly installments to give people a little time to digest it and apply it to their playing/practice regiment. I'm sure doing something like this breaks the monotony of having to come up with content, and it is so useful.

He actually is much better at explaining all this than most. Go to a music shop or get online and print out the scale and mode pattern charts. Like the pictures of the actual guitar fretboard with the patterns for each scale and each mode within that scale. You probably will also benefit from learning to read and write guitar tablature. But, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, you should probably consider taking professional lessons. Anyways, hope that helps. Good luck 🤞

You should keep running with these theory lessons. You perfectly explained things that took me a long time watching multiple different explanations in one vid. 10:07 Just breaking down the concept of every letter repeats and how you decide a sharp or flat was huge for me. You simplified it amazingly, congratulations.

However, learning the most basic, entry level aspects of music theory alone changed my guitar and bass playing. Essentially you have to memorize all of the shapes for the scales all of the way up the neck and practice to physically be able to play within the scale shape. It’s either memorize shapes or memorize notes. This can be considered easy only if you take the time to memorize all of it. Flying a 747 could be considered “simple” to a pilot.

One thing that I do that helped are first was only use letters. No #/b. ABCDEFGA, BCDEFGAB, CDEFGABC etc. Fill in the #/b "LATER". just get the base of the rotating notes, then add details... Later. When you add details later, you don't TAX your brain cells extra, early on. And, when you add details later, adding details later becomes easier to add. Instead of overwhelming with details UP FRONT. Adding #/b becomes simple. Then adding minor, melodic minor, harmonic minor becomes 'just added details' instead of holy shit taxing details up front. If that helps, let me know. details are like rhythms. You start with 4/4 then move on. You have a base to move on FROM. Adding details is easier than everything up front.

I mostly play in drop f# on a 7. Should I learn music theory in standard and transpose it in my head or learn it as the tuning I'm in?
@aarongarlington849919 күн бұрын
I would say learn it in standard to be well rounded and understand the chord shapes from tuning to tuning BUT if you don't want to tune to B standard, tune your f# to g# (the standard tuning) and start there. Theory is best learning in a standard tuning first before a drop tuning in my opinion

Thank you for the lesson! There is nothing new for me in this video, but still I would like to ask you to not drop the series, because there is literally NO STRUCTURED THEORY COURSES on YT which are not just a promo for a paywalled content. I spent an insane amount of time searching for good theory lessons and the overwhelming majority of content creators just drop it in like 5 videos because people get bored with theory too quickly and the numbers on video don't look good in the short term, BUT I really think if there was just ONE structured theory course without BS, everybody would recommend it (Justin made millions ov followers with his very basic, but structured course). Once again: please don't drop it.

What are you talking about? This is the very basics of music theory.
@ewljr16 күн бұрын
@ to me the basics are how to play in key, how chords, scales and arpeggios fit together. What he taught for the most part won’t help people at all and he was all over
@travisspaulding222216 күн бұрын
@@ewljr How do you teach any of that without first teaching what he taught? If you try to teach how chords and arpeggios work without first explaining the basics of what a note is, and how scales are built, all you’re going to do is confuse someone. You say he’s all over the place, but you’re putting the cart before the horse if you think teaching g chords and arpeggios comes before teaching the scales.
@ewljr13 күн бұрын
@ it’s very easy to that first. You should get Doug Doppler’s Guitar 411: Diatonic Theory and Harmony. It easily describes what I said in simple lessons. Doug Doppler is the guy that Joe Satriani had take over his students when he couldn’t teach any more. Doug makes it so easy to understand. Hope you get it
@travisspaulding222213 күн бұрын
@@ewljr I get it just fine, and no, I don't need to buy someone's theory lessons, lol. What you're talking about is a preference for teaching methods. This is not a right or wrong thing, lol. You're comparing one dudes short video on the basics of music theory to someone's entire course, lol.

I'm fretting (worrying) about how fast and complicated he's talking and him thinking it's so easy for other people. Probably, it's so easy for him that he probably assumes it's easy for anybody. I appreciate him trying but it's more like 3rd year college math than it is like 3rd grade math to someone like me😮 I just hope people don't feel stupid or bad if this isn't easy...people learn in different ways and have different ways of learning ...don't give up on music or yourselves...teaching isn't easy either,,,I've tried,.. no offense to Xander,, far from it- you are so good and do it so easily I think you just think that its easy for anybody else. It sounded almost like you could've been speaking Greek 75 percent of the time you were explaining, to me anyway. No disrespect to you,,,,, It's the subject I just don't want anybody impressionable or with self esteem problems or learning disabilities or any other challenges feeling stupid ,,,,it doesn't sound easy to me. And no offense or judgement on Xander he seems like a really good person and is definitely talented and skilled❤😊 it's just tthe subject of music theory isn't easy for alot of people
