Hey! 1:05:38 With update 1.0, Encased Industrial Beams require 3 Steel Beams + 6 Concretes. I was a little confused and i thought i'd have to redo the whole pattern but It's easy to fix! - Set both assemblers to 83.3333% --> (IN: 15 Steel Beams per minute + 30 Concretes per minute / OUT: 5 Encased Industrial Beams) - Set the 4 concrete constructors to 100% (IN: 45 limestones / OUT: 15 concretes) - Set the limestones miner to produce 180 limestones per minute (need MK.2) Fixed, hope this helps

I also like to use floating splitters over just straight conveyors, what I like to do though to make it look a little cleaner, is stack a few conveyor poles under them. The ground level conveyors can just pass through them and the splitters look like they have some kind of support. None of this actually matters of course, it’s just an aesthetic choice because I don’t like things to just be floating.

Because I was curious I looked into the overclocking mechanics. Overclocking is indeed still exponential for everything but power. In the update that saw power get overclocking that was 1:1 efficient there was a change to decrease the power needed for overclocking other machines, but it was just a decrease in the exponent used. Then as a definition of what it means to be linear. Linearity doesn't necessarily mean 1:1 (eg. overclocking to 150% takes 150% of the power). It could be something like 1:2 (eg. overclocking to 150% takes 200% power). The main difference is say overclocking from 150% up to 200% will take the same power consumption increase as 100% to 150% (eg. using the previous example pushing the machine to 200% will see the same 100% power increase as it was for 100% -> 150% or a grand total of 300%). In an exponential equation the increase from 150% to 200% will take even more power difference than the 100% to 150% overclocking. Hopefully that helps clarify some things. Kinda hard to explain over text for me.
@Comqr
@Comqr 3 ай бұрын
this is a late reply but basically you're saying that yes, both production and power scale is a linear equation, but they're NOT parallel to eachother. eg. at the 100% mark they intersect and are 1:1

A tip for underclocking a machine is to write a simple formula in the "Clock Speed" entry in the machine. Using the example with the Modular Frame assemblers, the recipe uses 3 Reinforced Iron Plate per minute. With four machines we want to use 2.5 Reinforced Iron Plate per minute (10 total). Formula to write: 100 * 2.5 / 3 Darren did something similar in the video, but used an already rounded value as input.

I added a bit of copper into wire from the node to the west and split the Steel tubes in half to add 3.33 Stators to the production line ... of course reducing the steel tubes to 10 per minute. Added smelter and constructor next to the Limestone miner and the assembler between the Steel Tubes and Steel Plates storage lines and the stator storage fit nicely in line between those storages.

49:30 u could just use 1 merger and 1splitter, cause the left side will overflow, thats the best part about splitters, if the other side is full its gonna transfer all to the other side. Example 60 income one side requires 20 the other 40, the splitter will start to splitt even by 30/30 but the side with 20 will run full at some point cause it will get 30 and at this point it will only consume the 20 so the remaining 10 will be lead to the other side that will than get the required 40 easy peasy overflow so only the income is important.

It went like clockwork right up until I realised i had all my machines were placed one foundation too wide. I realised this right at the end of the build as I was putting in the walkways so rather than move everything my lower floor is one foundation wider. I could not face moving everything . Great work again, at the rate I am going I will be caught up with you very soon.

I've always liked sending 2/3 of the steel ingots to beam production, and 1/3 to pipes. Always seems like there's a higher demand for the beams in the midgame, and it makes the numbers work super smoothly, at least if you're working with maxed mk3 belts (270 coal/iron --> 270 steel ingots). It's just 180 for beams (exactly 3 constructors) and 90 for pipes (also exactly 3 constructors). Although you did a great job of making the 50/50 split work.

This way you can paint 'stuff' your school colors or any other special colors. There are sites that if you upload an image, it will give you the hex code as you move your mouse over. I've always been curious why you're not a bit more creative with your power set-ups. I normally put the power sockets on the foundations directly below the machines and this makes the cables become invisible. It could be just me that doesn't like looking at cables though.

Great video as always. I do disagree tho with the decision of not using the manifold system. In my mind seems you overcomplicated the logistics when you could've simply joined the iron miners and have just 2 belts, as well as merged all the steel ingots output (coal and steel ingots are 1:1, so if you have the belt for one you have for the other) and just manifold all the constructors, not mattering the recipe since overall resource need will always be 270 SI (i believe that's the number you're aiming at cuz thats the limit of mk3 belt)
@WhatDarrenPlays
@WhatDarrenPlays 11 ай бұрын
Generally yeah I prefer manifold, but I thought I would just show how to load balance stuff for those curious because people asked in the previous videos. But this does show why it's more awkward / annoying to do, and why I prefer using manifolds generally.

I personally like load balancing even if it complicates things. It's like a fun logic puzzle trying to get all belts with the right numbers. I did manifold only til my first aluminum factory. I had a ton of fun with it even if it did take longer.

45:26 Just split one of the top 45 into 3 and merge two of the 15 with one each of the other 45 and get 2x60 without having to use another splitter. Since you need to higher belts anyway you could also just merge 4x45 into 180 and then split it 3 way into 60. That would be just 3 merger/splitter.

Linear increase means that if you make a graph of it, it is a straight line, e.g. returns are not diminishing. The incline may be more or less steep; 1:1, 1:2, it is still linear. Exponential growth means that the increase in cost is accelerating. Such a graph is "bent" and starts to point up. Just wanted to clear that up 😄

@WhatDarrenPlays
@WhatDarrenPlays 5 ай бұрын
I don't have a good answer I'm afraid. I plan using photoshop and the game. I just build an outer frame in the game to get the dimensions, then I use photoshop to work out the floor space and what I can put in there. As for the amount of productions, that's just math. So say I have 120 iron ore per minute, then I just work out how many smelters can use that iron. Smelters use 30 per minute, so I can make 4 smelters. Then you have 60 iron ingots (or whatever it is) and you work out what you can do with that. This process repeats itself, even on the largest projects I do.

I know this is a super-old video, but a quick question: Given the *absurd* power surplus you have, why not overclock to up production on inputs rather than underclocking end products? I understand that it is less efficient, but you have a *lot* of headroom for this point in the game; if you weren't going to use all that power production to accelerate moving through later phases I'm not sure why you'd go through the trouble of building out coal power to that scale instead of something smaller (say 1 bank of 15 generators instead of all 3.) Edit: Oh, throttled by belt tech. Duh.

Hay, thanks for the series, brand new on the game. Question, how do you activate the multiple (x10) foundation build option??

When building, press the R key, it allows you to "zoop" 10 in a row. Also, another feature: when building, press the H key, this will lock the hologram of the building/object in place and you can "nudge" it by pressing the arrow keys.

I started a factory at the god zone in northern forest and there used to be coal just on the other side of the cliff, but they've removed it. Feelsbadman. =/

ideally, only the extractors should be overclocked, anything else, you can add more and even reduce their speed.

I was THIS old when I learnt you could tap spacebar to get stuff to craft. My god my poor mouse button. 140 hours played.

I've not actually checked the maths (because I'm lazy) but I think that the power increase with overclocking is a geometric progression (results in less than exponential but more than linear). I'll check next time I'm in game.

Wouldn't it be better to first find an alternative recipe for the "Solid Steel Ingot"? There would be more of that steel. But the video is amazing.

Finding alternative recipes is an option, but many let's plays use the core recipes instead of going down the RNG/save scumming that finding a specific recipe may need. Since this appears to be a play through step by step; as noted by lack of t3 belts means that newer players see a basic layout. While the factory is HUGE I can see a way as the tech expands this factory could be producing more. The extra space allows for remodeling and such
