I found this type of texture ceiling to be the easiest for a first-time do-it-yourselfer. It's a combination of a brush stomp texture followed by a knockdown. The results of my first attempt at it turned out great. I am extremely pleased with how it looks.
Hopefully this video will encourage you to try it for yourself.

This is about the cheapest, fastest and most half-assed way of knock down texturing of a ceiling that I've ever seen. I went with this in the interest of saving time and money and it turned out beautiful! Thanks for posting this vid!!

Thank you for this. I did it your way on master bath. It was fast, required very little mud. I did the whole room with small 3.5q bucket of mud. No need to pre skim. Just dip the brush and go to town. Don't wait too long to knock down. I did the whole room in 3 quick sessions.

Thanks for posting this! We just had a leaky ceiling, so after repairing that finally scraped popcorn texture off, and we were kind of stuck on either sanding it smooth or doing some sort of more modern texture like this to hide the few small imperfections and break it up a bit from the smooth walls. This is exactly what I was looking for!

Hey man, thanks for taking the time to make this video. I just got transfered to a hotel where I need to redo all the washroom ceilings. Basically have to do my repairs, get in and get out. I'm going do some samples on some scrap and get approval, but I think i'll push this method if it works well for me. If previous repairs are really bad, I migh have to do 2 passes.

The ceiling of our home in Virginia was stomped like that, but no knockdown was done. Is that a thing - some people want the peaks? Or was it just laziness from the contractors? (As with many other things on this house...)

Thanks James. The drywall compound sticks well to the drywall so no need to primer first. It will require a longer nap roller though to get into the crevices but still was pretty good coverage. I also tinted my primer to the paint color to help ensure complete coverage. There is a link in the video description for the tools.

I primered after the knockdown was finished. There are links in the description for the tools. I don't know how long for sure you would have before tooling, but I just did about 4' wide by 16' long section before I drug the knife along to knock it down. I would say maybe 5 or 10 minutes but that would depend on humidity and temperature too. Thanks for watching.
