Yes Mel! I had to get used to them too. It took me a while to realize it was okay. It think it’s a learning curve for most people who transitioned. I love the idea of finger detangling first. If I have to use a comb, I do the same exact thing.

YES put the scissors down people! My friends who trim their hair regularly often ask me how I grew my hair so long and my answer is always just "I don't cut my hair". I haven't trimmed my hair since 2017 and my hair has grown 16 inches since then and surprisingly I don't have any split ends just a lot of single strand knots. Even with split ends, in the past, I was still able to retain quite a bit of length. If you're wondering, yes, I do have type 4 hair.
@LaToyaEbonyHair4 жыл бұрын
👏🏾 I grew up with a cosmetologist so I know the benefits of trimming, but I haven’t found that it’s necessary to do it more than a few times a year if you take decent care of your hair. Of course we’re all different, so I usually recommend a person just respond to what their hair tells them it needs.
@Whimswirl4 жыл бұрын
I agree. By "trim their hair regularly" I meant friends who trim often unnecessarily. Like trimming every month when your ends are perfectly fine. I don't recommend never trimming to everyone but I definitely think everyone should give not trimming often a try.

@LaToya Ebony... I agree with you. Finger detangling also adds a sensuous feminine component to self-care. My Hair gets matted when I’ve been inattentive =>frustration => yanking out knots with comb=> angry “at” my hair . Much better to love my hair with gentleness, to embrace my culture and femininity over time. Thank you for this helpful video
@letisharahming32914 жыл бұрын
I finger detangled my hair for the first time last week and I must say that I am truly impressed. I kept my hair in a stretched style and my strands were looking B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L. even on the next wash day. This could be my new routine. I'll keep you posted. P.S. Another great video
@aliciahaywood91884 жыл бұрын
I would often wondered why my hair would look dirty, even though I shampoo every week. I started doing a clay mask every four to six weeks. A clay mask or a chelating shampoo, removes hard water deposits from the hair. Once I rinse the mask out, I follow up with a moisturizing conditioner.
@JessieBanana4 жыл бұрын
The SSK thing is some good advice I honestly hadn't really though of. My curl pattern is more 3c/4a, but I still do get them even though my hair is relatively "stretched" in it's natural state. I find them annoying cause they make my hair feel less smooth (and I tend to play with my hair), but they don't actually cause me any problems and no one can see them from a distance. I've never cut my entire head because of them, but when I'm bored I tend to sit there and cut individual strands of hair for a minute or two.
@LaToyaEbonyHair4 жыл бұрын
And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a session or two if you notice and have the time. It’s more for those who do it to a point that it derails length goals, you know? 💕

Thanks for the great content! A have a couple of quick questions. 1. When you refresh your hair with water mid week, do you seal the water with oil afterwards? 2. How did you achieve your hair look in this video? It looks really nice. Is it a twist out?
@LaToyaEbonyHair4 жыл бұрын
1. It depends and varies. I have a video coming out next week that will answer a lot of your questions. I mainly focus oil on my ends though. Spray with water, then later oil (if needed). 2. It’s a stretched twistout. Video coming next week! ❤️

Excellent video! I am loving your hair whether shrunken or stretched. I detangle briefly with my fingers before going in with a regular comb. Apart from trims every 4 months, the only time I cut single strand knots is if shed hairs get caught in them. Aside from that I just ignore the single strand knots. I don't have that many despite the fact that I wear wash and gos typically. Maybe that is because I have low to medium density hair. I embrace shrinkage because it gives me volume. Yes to not obsessing over SSKs. Most of the time I don't even notice they are there cause they don't affect my hair. Yes to embracing shrinkage. I usually wash my hair on weekends and if I have somewhere to go I wear my shrunken wash n go. Sometimes I pin down the sides so it's cuter. I just don't see the reason to let my hair run my life.

I understand. Everyone’s hair is different. My hair tangles a lot too. I’ve found that as long as I don’t go over 3-4 days, I can handle the detangling. If it’s just for a few hours so I can leave the house, I’ll do that too. But honestly, you should do what feels right for YOUR hair. Feel me? ❤️

I rarely see any videos on normal porosity hair. Do you know of any influencers who make videos that you can suggest?

No, unfortunately I don’t. If I had normal porosity I would just listen to my hair and what it needs. You’ve got the ideal porosity.
