Very similar to how Jamaicans make Vegetable Soup or Mannish water. We just add parts of the Goat or Chicken, Cho Cho, Yam, Green Banana, Dumpling. We put in various colours of Vegetables (Which all colours have a different positive effect on both body and mind). Our Rice and Soup dishes are very similar to Malaysia.

@@sara_khong Thanks for the super quick response to my comment. I have tried many variations of Lentil curries. Fortunately, I do have the 5 Spice mix in my pantry, and will be trying out your recipe, without any alterations, of which I am always inclined to do. :) . As for suggestions, as you requested. Here is what, I recommend. As per the quantity, in your upload. Heat approx 2 TBSP Oil (Med high heat ) in a small frying pan. Crackle, 1 tsp brown Mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds, 1 Dry Red Chilli , 2-3 Garlic cloves ( Roughly smashed, 5-6 Curry leaves. Keep stirring and fry until garlic is slightly browned. Pour this mix, into the curry, after it has been switched off. Mix well. Cover and let it sit for 5 minutes. Enjoy :)

I am very fond of Pakistani/Indian food as I've been eating it for as long as i can remember. But, i have to admit that I've never come across a DAAL curry cooked with potatoes and Aubergines. After having watched your video, i was very impressed on your idea of combining vegetables with Daal. Please try cooking daal with GHEE (clarified butter)next time, i promise you it will smell and taste much better. A very improvised idea by you. I've now asked my Indonesian wife to try your Daal recipe combined with vegetables. I will let you know how it turns out and how it tastes. Carry on with your innovative cuisine.

Oh really? It’s very common here in Malaysia to have aubergine and potato. Ahh I have some ghee in my pantry. I shall try next time! So many tips from people eg putting turmeric and chili powder earlier to avoid raw taste. Yes please, when your wife try it, let me know how it turns out! 😀

Hi Sara, tried cooking it. Very easy to cook and delicious. Thanks. But the way your curry leaf plant looks so healthy, mine got small bugs all over. Can share how you take care of the plant?
@sara_khong3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike! I'm glad you like it. People who cooks dal the traditional way may not approve, but it's a shortcut I like! Actually I let mine grow wild. I don't put any pesticide. What I do is monitor the plant closely. The first sign of attack, I'll cut the whole stalk away. I tried using neem oil to spray but find it too tedious...

Fantastic video, Sara. I agree with your Mum, I'd take a lot of the chili seeds out but I am not Malaysian. You may have a market for your baby Curry leave plants here in Britain as it costs nearly RM300 for one only half a metre tall! One reputable plant nursery has a waiting list for them!

For me who ate dal at mamak until I was an adult, cooking it for the first time at home (when I was a noob) was overwhelming. So I came up with this recipe especially for beginners so they at least try and not give up on cooking dal! What are the most important steps to cook it properly? Let me know.
