I come from a long line of centenarians, I am also Japanese, my grandparents are both in their late 90s and they always tell me that the key is moderation. These videos focus a lot of FOOD and Exercise but it never talks about the other things that are equally important: culture and religion. Asian culture focuses a lot on Family and community. We also strive to live "gently" instead of being fast and furious like the Americans do...finding peace and tranquility in tiny things like a swaying breeze and the marvels of nature. Being Buddhists and lighting incense at temples bring immense joy and pleasure, live simply and without need for narcissism and competition with one another.

She began this healthy diet and exercise when she was 65. That's inspired me. Amazingly, she eats red meats, chicken, and other foods everyone eats. She is not vegan or vegetarian. In one of her Japanese videos, she emphasized keeping moving your body all day. In my Japanese neighborhood, adorable couples in the 80s run 42K marathons and climb mountains. They told me not to sit and surf the internet, watch TV, and play on your smartphone. Modern technologies make life easier, but they cause people to weaken and aging faster. Keep moving, do something that makes you physically move, be positive and happy everyday.

My Russian grandmother passed away when she was 92 years old. She always had two phrases in mind when we talked about food. - "Eat everything but with knowing when to stop" - "Everything is good for you if it reaches your mouth" (this is supposed to be said in a pretty cute rhyme in Russian). The proper foods definitely feed your muscles and bones. I pulled a muscle not too long ago and was also very strained and sore all over after starting a new job. I drank two glasses of grape juice, ate a mandarin, a banana, some asparagus, and roast chicken, and the next day I felt so much better. The pain was gone. I prayed and GOD blessed me with these foods. Groceries have been very expensive in the United States lately. After eating these foods, my puffy face is now slender looking. It flushed the bloat and stress out of my face. Eating healthy helps your body regulate and heal itself. Your diet affects how well your body performs. Organ function, blood circulation, physical strength, bone durability, and mental ability can all improve with healthy foods and prayer. ❤

I've eaten natto for lunch every day (roughly) for over 25 years, most of those years living in the States (though now in Japan). Japanese food, on the whole, is far more healthy than most western diets. The train system in Japan, moreover, requires people living here to walk to the local station unless they prefer using a car, but cars are simply not necessary in much of Japan. The bus system is also excellent. As a result, Japanese people acquire exponentially more walking and related exercise than the vast majority of Americans.

I avoid gluten, lactose, fructose, added sugar/salt, caffeine and alcohol, because my body absolutely abhors them. I've taken time to research and plan my diet with foods my body loves and can digest - this is possible in any culture, no matter where you live. I also do 30 minutes brisk walk + 30 minutes aerobics, 3 times a week; 24-hour, water only, intermittent fasts 3 days a week.

what no one mentions here is that Japan has a much higher quality of life than some places in the world. For one, it is safer than most. I live in the bay area in Ca and not even older people are safe jogging alone.another, people are courteous and respectful in Japan. And Japan has much respect for quiet and peace and they do not see anything wrong with solitude, they are not embarrassed to spend time alone . In America, people think quiet or alone is boring and unhappy.. the more noise, the better in America. The problem is most people who think quiet is bad is because they heard it from someone else. they need to imitate what social media says is the norm. All people want to do here is party and make loud noise. at all hours. No respect. No peace. another thing is people cannot listen to their music in their cars or homes without making it as loud as a club. They dont care if it bothers someone else. In Japan, they have the decency to have consideration of others.

If someone has problems with controlling blood sugar, eating a whole banana at one time can be a problem. Monitor blood glucose before eating a banana and every 15 minutes thereafter. If the blood glucose goes up too much, cut back to 1/2 or even 1/4 or 1/8 of a banana. Always eat raw fruit on an empty stomach since fruit needs to quickly pass through the stomach. It is rather difficult for fruit to do that if eaten after or with other foods that require much longer digestive times.

You should go read Mastering Diabetes. Debunks everything you're saying. You should eat vegetables before a fruit or apple cider vinegar. You should be able to control your blood sugar eating as much fruit as you can. Just don't eat any oil or fat or sugar.

I think first of all she exercises and that will compensate for a lot. I'm glad she likes what she eats because I would not be able to live eating that way She eats healthy cultural dishes.

"nuclear" gas from soy and cruciferous almost ended my marriage. I've heard it can get you fired, if you don't go on fire yourself. Maybe if I had started when I was a kid this may not be a fatal problem today. Thanks for the info. Nothing about her marital status or its history. I hope it's all good. Inspiring discipline.

Wooow!! That's so great. The best thing is that she gives us the belief that we can live a healthy and happy life even in 90. Only what saw white bread, cooking food in oil, shop honey that's not acceptable every day!

If you buy Natto from the Japanese grocery store, don’t use the flavor packet. It’s usually junk. Add your own flavoring

Every country have their own old people aged from 90 to 110 or more. Don't be surprised they have their own diet or food they ate why they grow that old. In other words, Japanese old people ate these that food; Filipino old age ate these that food, korean, Indian, and so on and so forth.

I love a simple Japanese breakfast.....miso soup with green onions and tofu (I make it, so easy) , a small piece of fish and rice on the side. Could add some dried seaweed to the soup. I feel great after eating this breakfast.
