Never use a crescent wrench on about anything because it can be adjusted and because it can be adjusted you could ream the nut heads. Always use the box end of the wrench because it captures the shape entire nut head.

well with cylinders i've done theres been times where there was 1 stud that stuck up higher than the others, I just left it a little high, but the head always went down, I would make sure one of the studs inst bent, or that a stud was installed cock eyed into the cylinder, or that your head isnt warped, same for the cylinder as well.

I see that Namura piston on your bench. I would never run that crap in my bike, hell thats the whole reason I have to get my cylinder re-plated. Run a forged wiseco and you will be solid. My Namura cast piston fell apart after only ten hours!!!!!! In fact no matter what brand of piston you buy go with a forged over the cast and you will be better off in the long run.

Spray them with penetration oil a few days before, they will come out easier

next time use WD-40 cause you can crack the cylinder..it happened to me once

Kroil is the ultimate penetrating oil. You may have to wait overnight, but it WILL work. Just disassembled an '86 RM 80 with no problems on toughest/crusted up parts.
