thank you man!! I am waiting on a new manifold and needed to learn how to go about installing new studs. appreciate this solid little video
@mikevarner90823 ай бұрын
Thanks for posting this...as many have said, this is a very old technique for installing a threaded stud. However, not all people looking things up on KZbin are seasoned experts and know all these techniques and tricks. And, BTW, your explanation and filming was great. Some of the "experts" are so spastic, both verbally and with their camera, the content is practically worthless. You did great.

Wow, that is incredibly simple and effective thank you. I would have struggled greatly trying to screw this in with one nut. Awesome thanks. Changing the gasket on a 67 mustang and the nut was cross threaded. Old stud came out instead of the nut coming off so I'm changing hardware. Never done studs that don't have a head to wrench on
@ForfeMac3 жыл бұрын
Just run a tap through the manifold side, then you can spin 'em in by hand. The studs are interference fit on the nut side so it'll bottom out the stud when you torque down the nut. And don't forget the nickle antiseize on everything, making it easy on the next guy is a good idea, since it's usually you.
@matthewmclean97342 жыл бұрын
Certain brands don't tap their bolts correctly and call it an interference fit... Tap the bolts as well or have fun drilling them out again after following the brands "directions".

Excuse me, I am installing a new catalytic converter for my Pontiac g3 2010 and I got the part and it came with these three threaded studs as you are using in this video. When I attach it to the front exhaust pipe, is there suppose to be a gap between the two or will it snug into place as i tighten the nuts on the studs?

Should this be a good way to back the stud out ?? before I get down there and start on my headers swap
@revmatchstudios3 жыл бұрын
Yes, as long as the nuts are tightened enough together, and it wouldn’t hurt to use some penetrating oil where they screw into the manifold/header, especially if they are rusted in
@anthonyhiscox3 жыл бұрын
To back it out you would need to wrench the bottom nut. Otherwise you will just loosen the top nut if the stud is stuck in there.

I used a pair of vice grips to grip onto the old studs, and a hammer to tap on the vice grips in a counterclockwise rotation to break them free due to them being rusted into the exhaust manifold.

@MacAutoDiag8 ай бұрын
If your bolt doesn't spin easily it's because the threads are messed up. If you look closely there's 1 of the threads that he stripped hanging on the stud when he removed it. This video should be called how to cross thread. Just go get a proper tap smh 🤦🏽♂️
@cortezaz3 жыл бұрын
Why don’t you, I don’t know, just chase the threads? And then just installed them by hand until they bottom out...just saying
@revmatchstudios3 жыл бұрын
That is a great Idea, and would work just fine, I was only working with the tools that I had available to me, and I didn't have a tap and die set.
