No hate, genuine question: Why would my opponent turn away from me when I try to pass his guard?

I thought same too. I guess it’s just situational to show how to get into that particular back take. It could happen during a scramble as well. I took away the half back control to full hooks details more than anything.

They start to turn in to turtle so they wont give you side control and passing points.

Remember...the turtle is a guard. Hence the name turtle guard. There are some jiu jitsu players that are so good at playing with somebody off their back. They are so comfortable that the opponent will not get the second hook. That they will work off that first hook. Have seen guys peel off that hook and slide their back to the mats then turn towards them while hand fighting the seat belt. Depending which hand is where. So like in this video the right-hand is over barnardo's shoulder when he is hen fighting before he scoots his back all the way to the Matt he will have two on one wrist control and then pass it over to his left side, slide and put his back towards the mat oh, then use the grips that he has on his opponent's wrist and use that to lift himself up along with using his right leg because it gets freed ones he slides off and puts his back on the mat. He will stomp on the mat and kind of do a back/ Bridge type of motion and turn towards him and end up on top of him either in half guard, mount, or side control. Whichever one you end up in.
