The French nation are back stabbers so don't be surprised when they smile at you. They have no intention of preventing illegal migrants crossing the channel whcih they could easily do in 5 minutes by accepting illegal migrants back to France. During the Falklands conflict their armed forces were trianing the Argentinians on how to use and maintain exocet missiles which killed many of our sailors. Their farmers, fishermen, port workers and immigration officers often strike and close the channel crossing which by the way is illegal under EU law but it never stopped them. Not forgetting how we helped them in 2 world wars. As I said they will smile at you and when you turn your back they will knife you in the back.

Funny how the British think that we don’t like them. I’ve heard many people from England say that they don’t like the French, but never even once a French say something like that. Same for the Italians. We love our European neighbors. Wars are over between each other for decades..

If I may, we get a lot of negative stories of what is going on in the U.K. and think that if the same basic element goes to France that will be your lasting impression of us. As for our view of the French, it is almost a sport to imply something negative about the French in humour. If someone said something directly negative about the French they would be deemed to be a bigot and there opinion would have little value. My opinion: we are like both hands, the same but opposite. Both hands are equal and can easily work together.

@@Leila2023_ Hi Leila, I'm really not a picky eater, but as an American it seems like the people who enjoy British food are within the borders of the country alone. That said, I think the Brits have many other merits that far overshadow this. Nice food is great, but a backbone and conviction that seems prevalent in your society is what kept the Nazis from either winning WWII, or making it substantially bloodier. From what I can see, that endures today and it matters. Also, of the cities I've visited here in Germany, in France, in Belgium, and in Italy, there is no place that could compare to the city of London. Finally, I think the EPL is the best football in the world in terms of overall quality of play. Disagree if people hate on food that you like, but I think it is true that most of the world finds British cuisine to be peculiar if not unpalatable. That coupled with the typical British "aloofness" make for easy targets.

And then the English cuisine is a little bit special ^^ Btw, I think that the English are what we the French are not ... In the end, we are complementary and at the same time very linked, because of our common history (each has invaded the other at least one times) which distilled the culture of one into the other, and in addition we come from common origins (Celtic and Gallic). In the end, we are more brothers than enemies, a bit like a couple who bicker all the time, but who appreciate each other for who we are. Greetings from France !/Salutations de France !

This made me laugh, especially the part about British cooking. Years ago, I was stationed in Naples, Italy at the headquarters for Allied Forces Southern Europe. It was my second assignment in the US Army, and was a very exciting and stimulating place to live and work, since there were military and civilians from all over Europe and America stationed on that base and working and relaxing in close, daily proximity to each other. I always remember those three years with a lot of fondness and joy since I learned so much about living in Italy and about Europeans as a whole. Sometime in the middle of that tour, some one who was British told me a joke that goes like this: "In Heaven: the cooks are French, the policemen are English, the mechanics are German, the lovers are Italian and the bankers are Swiss. French cooking is crap and so very over-rated, especially the "Haute Cuisine". It's all sauces and art on a plate instead of canvas but leaves you hungry and disappointed. The use of all that butter, cream and cheese is not good for health, and the bread is rubbish. English bread is a nicer texture and the loaf a better shape than baguettes or boules especially for making toast and sandwiches. When you eat a good roast with Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings you don't feel hungry for the rest of the day. Since Britain is so multicultural our most popular food is not even 'fish and chips' (as the EU allowing France and Spain to over fish the English Channel has made fish so expensive) but Curry - 'Chicken Tikka Marsala' invented in Birmingham!

I'm surprised by the many positive comments considering we're national rivals in most things. My opinion on the French is that they seem a lot more passionate in both a positive and negative sense. The positive side is that they are more open in their emotions than we are. This also shows in their art, culture and national character. The negative side of this is that the French can also let their emotions get the better of them, though this may be a fault of the British media. Love France and the French people. In the late 1980's I had my first holiday in Paris. I met some lovely people. Helpful and patient with my school girl French. One night in a restaurant, we were included in a small anniversary party. They just kept passing the food and wine down the tables to us! One lady helped by swapping some francs for pounds for us when we found the exchange had closed and we needed to buy some food. At another restaurant, the chef sent out several deserts for us to try for free. It was a wonderful time. I don't think French people would recieve such a welcome in England but I would hope that they would.

@@en.chamade Lmao no, I'm from the South and most people would have been just as positive if not more. Honestly speaking the only french region that may have more contrasted answers concerning the Brits, good and bad, are the Northerners. Because up there a lot of families still have a vivid memory of english soldiers from the last war and because of their proximity to the country's borders and its tourists. Other than that most french people don't really have strong feelings towards the Brits as a whole... (we do love Irish people for some reason though, that one is true).

@@en.chamade Then you are specifically talking about Bordeaux and its region, because I am from the SouthWest and we don't really have that problem where I'm from. And even then saying they have an issue with Brits would be a simplification (borderline lying) because they actually have a problem with anyone that isn't from there that moves/buys vacation houses making market price rise, that's a whole issue on its own. And invasive tourists as a whole not just Brits. Parisians are actually the ones who seem the be the most disliked from those reasons too (not just in the Southwest), not the Brits. Are you French and from there or do you just know some people from there thanks to your travels in France???? I was surprised how nice the French people were about us! I come to France one or two times a month with work. I promise our food, and how multicultural it is, is way better than the reputation it has. My vegan colleagues have a SUPER difficult time eating in France - just salad and fries. I absolutely love France - don't speak it as well as I'd like, as all my French colleagues always want to talk to me to practice their English (which is always excellent, even though they always apologise for their "bad" English!). Lovely people, great cuisine (not a fan of some of it. especially Foie Gras, escargots, and what I like to term at business lunches as "mystery food" - not even the French can tell me what we're eating half the time - but it looks nice. I was once helping myself to a plate of profiteroles, expecting a nice dessert, but inside was minced snails and garlic - so that was a surprise! Love the cities, the countryside. I'm glad as nations we get on pretty well. I do wonder though why I've never seen any French comedy in the UK in the same way that a few people understood some of our traditional TV comedy from years gone by (and slightly more modern). We do seem to have very different senses of humour as nations so closely located to each other!

Yes, you are right. From the XIX° century, quite early actually (just after the fall of Napoleon), France and UK started to become very close allies. Louis XVIII of France was an anglophile. Queen Victoria was a good friend of king Louis-Philippe and above all of Napoleon III and Eugénie (their son, the Prince impérial moreover died fighting as a British soldier in South Africa). I guess what made this rapprochement possible is that France gradually became a parliamentary régime and then a democratic Republic. Democracies rarely are at war. Unfortunately, the fall of France in 1940 started a difficult times till 1944. We were lucky that Churchill, even if he does not really appreciate him, support De Gaulle during the war 😉
