Thank you for posting an HONEST video of propagation. Usually, I see the propagation videos and the person who is making the video shows that ALL or most of their cuttings have rooted and grown successful plantings. I go to do that and most of mine die. It is very frustrating and makes me feel like a failure. Now, I can plant many and know that not all of them are going to make roots and probably at least half will die. Now, I will go and start my new wisteria vines. :- )

Excellent tutorial, I put all my cuttings on the north side of my house ( northern hemisphere) they are in shade, but get bright indirect light. I am getting ready to set up some wisteria today. They are so beautiful. For those who haven’t grown them, I had one in moderate shade, just sun through light leaf canopy. It was there three years did not do much. I switched it to half day full sun and it has gone wild.

Oh my gosh thank you so much. I've tried so many times to take clippings from the wisteria plants at my daughter's house and they always die. I can see now it's very difficult to do and I should take more than 3-4 for a better success rate! Fingers crossed I will finally get it this year

We moved into our first home 3 years ago 2 miles away from a home we were renting and the rental was a 200 year old mill home we were wanting to purchase but as our family grew it was too small for us and we had to move and I always think about the sweet honey smelling white wisteria we had to leave behind so we are hoping to ask the current owners if we can take a cutting and I’m praying it will root for us as well. It depends on the growth. Unfortunately I moved out of the previous house and many plants were left behind. You should grow it away from your house because a mature plant has very invasive roots and it can hurt the house.

Did I miss where you shared the best season to take cuttings without causing too much stress or damage to a mother plant? I know you covered with plastic for about 2 months, pulled the dry cuttings, and returned to find even more growth some time later, and then all of a sudden it was fall. But I know it's not a great idea to trim trees when they're flowering... did you wait until after the flowering season to take your cuttings?

LOVE Wisteria. Have heard Wisteria can be grown as a house plant with direct lighting. Do you know then when/how long it would bloom inside? My home has central heat and air. My husband has wooded acreage. Wisteria grows on many of his trees. He cuts the Wisteria completely out, and it breaks my heart cause I love looking at it. Do understand it's very aggressive outside. With the plastic over the top,can they get too hot? I am on long island in NY. I have been taking plastic off for the day when temperature is in 70 and 80,in direct sun. I do have some new growth,but no leaves yet. I put plastic back on in early evening. I am also trying to root a cherry blossom tree. Wisteria thrives in warm weather so it should be okay

What do you do with plantings over winter,bring them in or can they stay outside??

If the plants are young I move them in a protected area. If they are big, I leave them out. Some plants survive the winters just fine, some need a burlap wrap

It's September where I live (Ohio), and I was wondering whether it's too late for me to do this. Also, will they die if I leave them outside over the winter? Could I winter them over in my garage to send them into a dormant state and then bring them out in the spring? Thanks for your video. I just subscribed.

You should try propagating it in next spring. It will die outside at least when it's young. You can bring it in garage.

This was my question, too, so thanks for asking and thanks also for the answer. To be sure I'm understanding correctly, you recommend we propagate next spring then bring the young plants in for the winter and plant them the following spring?

@@SusanWillful woody cuttings propagate better in fall. Green cuttings do better in spring
