I cut meats back to just chicken and ground turkey for a good amount of time. Then I cut out meats altogether. Then after 2 weeks I also cut out cheese and Dairy. I'm 19 weeks going vegan and 3rd week cutting out oils as well. ✌️

You don’t take collegian to replace collegian. Just like you don’t eat liver to repair your liver. We lose collegian by having dehydrated cells - salt will do that. Your cells need minerals, electrolytes and photochemical compounds. Alcohol does a number on collegian. Source: Medical Medium.

When i transitioned to vegan a couple of years ago, I started eating things like Beyond Meat burgers. Right after eating one single patty, my heart started racing and my blood pressure SKYROCKETED. I mean, really high numbers like 150's over 95 or 100. And this effect went on for hours. Very scary. When i looked at the ingredients, the sodium was off the charts, and the saturated fat amount per serving was madness. It would have been healthier to eat the real thing. I also ate all kinds of other plant-based burgers from Dr. Praegers, etc. Again, the salt and fat made my heart rate 90 BPM and higher with elevated BP. Since then, I just ate whole food plant based. I admit, I like white rice, and have been working my way toward brown rice instead. Or, I just boil some potatoes as my starch instead. I have also recently tried to cut out the oils. I discovered that if I use the leftover bean juice from the cans, it thickens up my sauteed veggies and I dont need a single drop of oil. i still end up with a very flavorful dish. :)

36:10 I agree so much with rip on this one. If you're exercising and you don't eat enough fat, your muscles will rip and get injured more often. It's fat that keeps everything together and joints fluid and whatnot.

28:08 what I know about triglycerides is that they're made from a glycerol and 3 fatty acid molecules. The thing is that there's a lot of hidden fatty acids in the WFPB no oil diet. If Rip worries about alcohol the next phase should also be worried about and that's vinegar. Vinegar is surprisingly a saturated fatty acid and people don't realize it. So I would assume if people want to avoid raising their triglycerides to stay away from vinegar! It's so small that it's in liquid form and while we expect saturated fats to look like butter, lard, or shortening blocks they do come in many forms and that's the smallest of them! I heard the VLSFAs - the very large ones like in macademia might actually improve heart issues, so I'd look into seeing if those can help too. I figure if the molecule is just too large - maybe the body won't use it nor be able to house as many. I just don't personally know all this stuff, but that's my knowledge.

31:11 I actually looked it up and the most nutritionally dense whole food (plant-based) is a pili nut. It also has the most saturated fat of any whole food too! I mean it makes sense why it's so nutritionally dense! I find spirulina, barley grass, etc. to be really nutritionally dense. Then there's flowers that while we don't have the nutritional research on it I have a hunch are super nutrient dense. I just don't know the drug interactions without looking at my drug guide - I have a pharmacy tech expired license (as that's what happens after 2 years lol) too. So I know a bit about pharmaceuticals too.

34:26 even when I ate meat my cholesterol was always the lowest the doctor ever saw. My total goes under 100. I get there by non-repetitive exercising 8 hours a day but in a natural way - through natural movements, like swimming 8 hours. This gets your body ready for anything. I think the intermediate fasting might help - you want to get into a state where the exercise makes you no longer hungry and so your muscles are what's consuming, not you - and then the blood can nourish there instead of you feeding your blood. That's how it tends to be used up. This is anecdotal - nothing backed by any science - except the studies on longevity where it showed okinawans doing everyday life-level exercise prolonging their lifespan so much.

38:17 some people like me just look as far as possible at all food selection that they have and if there's enough to form a plant-based diet out of it - there you go. if not, you gotta go find it and make sure it's right when put all together! Also you want to do things slowly (unless you're body's already adjusted) - so your microbiome can catch up. If not, I feel personally (nothign to quote me on) that it would make people really ill not being to digest foods properly until then.

the rancho cucamonga shoutout is so funny because veganism is seriously trending there! It got pressed juicery, be leaf, thai vegan, plus all the plant-based options everywhere else. I'm glad it's going in that direction - it really truly needs it. I just applied with the city to give an RC vegan tour, but we'll see if I get funding for it. If so, it's coming on youtube and I bet everyone will be happy for it. If I don't get the funding, someone else can give it to me. I think it was $320 or something? I wonder if I talked with nancy before? I think so? If so, hi again! It's so funny I'm randomly trying to connect to others through other people's youtube videos lol.

29:15 vitamin c boosts collagen. I believe collagen is made from alanine, beta-alanine, valine, and a few others. Usually our body makes collagen from these. You can buy vegan collagen from companies like everydaze. The issue with eating collagen is that the bioavailibility of most collagens are near 0 - so eating collagen really makes little sense - as rip says it's really pretty much hype. That's why it's better to let your body make it - it makes what it needs in the right places. Even if there was a collagen molecule that did make it through the gut - it can possibly be too big to handle, so I worry about collagen causing bodily damage than good. So I believe in mainly sticking to amino acids if possible. There's a company on the stock market that sells beta-alanine (I htink that's what it was) supplements that are vegan if you really want to do that. It's just unsure if it'll use it to become collagen or something else - so it's not a worry - teh body knows what it knows on what to do.

A.whole food plant-based diet most definitely is a very healthy lifestyle choice. However, the longest living, healthiest populations of people are NOT vegetarian, vegan,.raw vegan, paleo,.keto, or carnivore. They eat a mostly plant-based diet with a small amount of animal products a couple of times per week to a couple of times per month. Olive oil is also consumed by those in Sardinia and Greece, so stop the fear mongering about oils. Just don't overdue it. Green smoothies can be extremely healthy. Combine fruit with greens, freshly ground flax seeds, chia seeds, some nut milk or filtered water, and you will get plenty of fiber that will help to slowly balance the natural sugar in the fruit. Put in some sprouted tofu or plant based protein powder for extra protein.

26:56 I think we have just begun learning about the microbiome, but I feel there's a whole other component that complements the microbiome and that's the proteome. I bet once the research finishes with the microbiome it'll switch there. Just because cooked food might denature some proteins doesn't mean that we should worry about eating cooked food! While raw might be better here doesn't automatically make cooked worse - that's just playing into the denying the antecedent logical fallacy! Not really fair. Honestly our body absorbs broken down proteins in the form of amino acids. I think because proteins are damaged in the cooking process I worry more about the damaged caused by the deformation rather than losing enzymes - because our body makes so many on its own already! That and the microbiome digests plenty of food. Still there's plenty to worry about with cooked food. That said the proteome field isn't something that is researched enough (as we barely moved forward in the microbiome research) that this stuff is really tough to say and time will tell what research shows!

Dear Rip, I would love nothing more than to eat a whole plant-based diet, again. I see all of these wonderful videos. I'm well-educated about what I should eat. But, I can't get answers from any of you plant-based teachers & doctors, such as your father. In 2020, I had a full open small bowel obstruction surgery, (adhesions related after a hysterectomy, 30 years prior). I was told to stay on a low-fiber diet, and no leafy greens or high-fiber beans, forever, for SBO prevention. Recently, I have added a spoonful of brown rice & Lentils. No one ever answers me. Where can I find info about what I can eat to avoid another SBO, but eat plant healthy, again? My health is going downhill, w/(high cholesterol & pre-diabetes. Any suggestions? Thank you

Thanks for calling out the Frankenfoods by name. A lot of videos by popular vegan podcasters and KZbinrs brag to meat eaters about how you have all of these vegan foods that taste like real meat. Sure, but with their ingredients, it still isn’t healthy. If you’re vegan for the animals, shouldn’t you want to live longer to help the animals more?
