I think this may be some of your best work yet Toys! Very good job on explaining the differences and that there is potential options for even more power. Smiles per gallon is what it's all about. I am still contemplating going to a C6 based square port Whipple 2.9 blower just for the fun of it. I think I could possible get up around 750wheel with one. That being said it would strictly be for fun. This car doesn't need any changes as is.

It's hard to beat the sound of a roots style blower. A buddy of mine got an 04 Cobra about 3 years back with a Whipple kit and hearing that banshee scream of a super charger was intoxicating. The flyby's were my favorite as you'd hear 'eeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEROOOOOOMM' blowing past. Good times.

Great video! In addition to the points you make, I think that centrifugal blower is easier on a stock engine. Roots/positive displacement blowers make boost at low rpm so you are always putting stress on the engine while with centrifugal, you’re not even in boost until you really step on it. If I am out just cruising around (more so when I’m with the wife) I’m never in boost.

I love the instant neck twisting torque, similar to big block V8😅

The local autocross track where I live barely let me get into second gear. I'm having trouble not being able to swing the rear enough to make sharper turns so with the max power coming on instantly with a roots blower would that help (this is totally not an excuse for me to give myself to have a cool sounding car)
@Toys4Life6 ай бұрын
Well, it would definitely help you swing your rear end out (:-) whether or not that helps your time??? I can't say for sure.

I have owned and modified every car I have owned, or purchased modified cars, Wirth my experience, traction is speed, so a&a will be in my future after stroker kit
@StickShiftMuscle5 ай бұрын
Top mount blowers have instant power down low. The centrifugal blowers build power with RPM. I had a procharger WS6 and with the 6 spd it was nice.. but to be honest a roots blower would be better because of the manual transmission I can be in the torque sooner. If I did a centrifugal again I’d do an automatic and a stall converter where the torque comes in like a 3800 stall or more so I can hit boost right away.

Excellent explanation for someone who doesn't know much about superchargers. A couple questions: 1) Would/Should I put headers on if installing a supercharger? I currently just have a cold air intake and Borla catbacks as my only two mods. I don't know if my stock exhaust would be a bottle neck. 2) Does adding a supercharger decrease the life of the engine, and if so by how much? Thanks for any answers.

With the centrifugal superchargers, do you still hear the wine? Or is it more of a turbo sound? Also, has anybody ever used an HkS SSQV blow off valve on central fugal supercharged Corvette

It sounds more like a turbo than it does and eating roots style supercharger in my opinion.

Depends on you power goals and if you intend to beef up the drivetrain IMO. Be sure to have the rings gapped for supercharging while you are in there.

Try fitting a twin screw supercharger, it has an inherently lower charge temperature and it tends to taper off at higher rpm much less than the roots.
