Just a little more info. The first dish you called it a crisper 小笼包 "xiaolongbao". It's called 双煎 "shuangjian" at least in Shanghai. Might have different names in different Chinese regions haha.

From what I understand, they have been on the hunt for good vegetarian and vegan food in Japan and so far have been unsuccessful in that they haven't been very good. So far Korea seems to have more options in that respect, I'm sure when they find a good place they'll share it with us!

Simon and Martina And don't worry about the "technique" of eating them. Everyone has their favorite way, so it's ridiculous to say there's a "wrong" way. :) I'm Chinese and I split my xiao long bao in half in a spoon, so don't worry about your poking! XD
@tslin8851
@tslin8851 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, and No. In most parts of China, it is indeed 生煎包. The joint is called 上海焼き小籠包, Shanghai yaki Shōronpō (or Xiao long bao in Mandarin). Shōronpō is a much widely recognized general term in Japan for this soupy dumplings small, big, or even pan-dried. So Simon was right. That was exactly what they called that in the place. :)

When I went to Japan with Uni for a scholarship program we also went to a standup bar, and only because there were Australian beer, haha my teacher was like yes! yes! ~If I go to Japan again I'm going to try Japanese food (try to have a bigger budget), because it was so sad being there, all they wanted to do was eat steak, italian, indian... (like where am I? japan? no? oh okay). i literally went to fancy western restaraunts haha. spending so much just because people didn't like fish, tempura, soup... hmmmm why are you in Japan then? sorry ranting. BUT YUM , memories TT

Remember after the tsunami? Absolutely no looting whatsoever. Respect and concern for others is one of Japan's highest values, which is why its society functions so well.
@johannah.3930
@johannah.3930 7 жыл бұрын
PQSusan SD it has to do with social/income equality. Japan has one of the highest income equality in the world and there are studies involving multiple countries showing how that lowers crime rates :)
@susangarland6869
@susangarland6869 7 жыл бұрын
Please don't try to equate this with socialism. Japanese social norms have been in place for centuries, even in feudal times when there was more than just a bit of income inequality. If anything, it's the Buddhist influence in Japan that has helped to shape the Japanese moral character, which is all about putting others ahead of self. And this is a question of morality, not economy. Japan has its fair share of people living in poverty, but most of them never become criminals because of their strict adherence to the social/moral code. Both my husband and I are first generation Japanese Americans with deep ties to Japan -- believe me, income has nothing to do with it.

Out of curiosity, when is it okay to share one dish among a party aside from izakayas/cafes/chains? I assume it's frowned upon to order one or two dishes to share in joints/restaurants with a high volume of customers considering the population density, how busy everyone is and the value placed on time. Is sharing generally accepted any where as long as more than one dish is ordered in proportion to the party size? 'Cause I'm going to Fukuoka for three days and there's just so much to eat! There's bound to be a moment where I and 2-3 others want to try eating somewhere but will have to share 1-2 things out of fullness from a previous meal. I'm also worried I can't be the quick-in-and-out ramen eater who literally finish eating in 5 minutes. I love to relish while eating and am such a slow eater that I'm worried I may be disrespectful D:

Dunno if I'll ever make it to Japan, but these food tour videos make me so happy. Partly it's the delicious looking food, and partly it's just you guys being so happy. Love it.

This may be my new favorite EYK video! It's been so much fun watching you grow and learn about Japan like you did in Korea, and get back to the point of teaching us, with confidence, about the area you live in. I'll always love and miss the TL;DR segments, but I prefer your new style. Thanks for being a constant inspiration, and sharing your adventures with us! (ㆁωㆁ♥️) 0o0o you so nasty.

Those chips to pay in the end are so Japan. In any other country I could only imagine people just giving them fewer chips than they are supposed to pay and pack the rest of the chips in their bag or pants or smth...

Tokyo has a lot of neighbourhoods so popular among Japanaese but hardly known among tourits. I am glad to see that you are online missionaries to introduce such a nice neihbourhoods to outside of Japan.
