Ohhhh thanks for the info! :)
@LittleAmyHe7 жыл бұрын
Simon and Martina And don't worry about the "technique" of eating them. Everyone has their favorite way, so it's ridiculous to say there's a "wrong" way. :) I'm Chinese and I split my xiao long bao in half in a spoon, so don't worry about your poking! XD
@tslin88517 жыл бұрын
Yes, and No. In most parts of China, it is indeed 生煎包. The joint is called 上海焼き小籠包, Shanghai yaki Shōronpō (or Xiao long bao in Mandarin). Shōronpō is a much widely recognized general term in Japan for this soupy dumplings small, big, or even pan-dried. So Simon was right. That was exactly what they called that in the place. :)

Remember after the tsunami? Absolutely no looting whatsoever. Respect and concern for others is one of Japan's highest values, which is why its society functions so well.
@johannah.39307 жыл бұрын
PQSusan SD it has to do with social/income equality. Japan has one of the highest income equality in the world and there are studies involving multiple countries showing how that lowers crime rates :)
@susangarland68697 жыл бұрын
Please don't try to equate this with socialism. Japanese social norms have been in place for centuries, even in feudal times when there was more than just a bit of income inequality. If anything, it's the Buddhist influence in Japan that has helped to shape the Japanese moral character, which is all about putting others ahead of self. And this is a question of morality, not economy. Japan has its fair share of people living in poverty, but most of them never become criminals because of their strict adherence to the social/moral code. Both my husband and I are first generation Japanese Americans with deep ties to Japan -- believe me, income has nothing to do with it.

Out of curiosity, when is it okay to share one dish among a party aside from izakayas/cafes/chains? I assume it's frowned upon to order one or two dishes to share in joints/restaurants with a high volume of customers considering the population density, how busy everyone is and the value placed on time. Is sharing generally accepted any where as long as more than one dish is ordered in proportion to the party size? 'Cause I'm going to Fukuoka for three days and there's just so much to eat! There's bound to be a moment where I and 2-3 others want to try eating somewhere but will have to share 1-2 things out of fullness from a previous meal. I'm also worried I can't be the quick-in-and-out ramen eater who literally finish eating in 5 minutes. I love to relish while eating and am such a slow eater that I'm worried I may be disrespectful D:
