I’ve had very similar issues as this guy has had and it has caused this year to be the most stressful year for me mentally since doing this fulltime. Really hoping to take some of this content and implementing it into finding quality relationships locally

Great people are out there. Don’t give up! I hope these videos help. I’ll make a note now to make a good video about recruiting good painters or subcontractors

I love your videos Eric, I found, while growing my list of trusted contractors, that I ended up doing a few jobs myself as I needed positive references. If a contractor fails you then you are already out one strike with that customer, and you may already have a hard time repairing the chance of a good review. Therefore jump in, salvage the situation by being onsite yourself. Then iron out finding/checking-out a new contractor while you are getting the job done or after. What do you think Eric?

Eric, when you say you "show the subs the jobs" do you mean you bring them with you to do the estimate?

I first text message them all details and pictures to make sure we are both in the same ball park. Then I meet them at a house, walk it, and agree on a job and price to start them on.

How does the sub pay for the paint if you pay them after the job is done? You said paint is included in the $1,800
@PaintingBusinessPro
@PaintingBusinessPro 5 жыл бұрын
They have money to buy the paint. If they don't have any money, we'll buy it for them on the first few jobs and take it out of their %. Then they save up some money so they can buy paint. These jobs are usually 3-4 day turn arounds anyway.

Great information very interested in the program my question is when you’re hiring the subcontractors are you requiring them to have some insured and license as well and do they have to sign a 1099 ?

It's very weird but I hear this is a big problem for people out there , having many subs not showing up for a meeting about bidding a job to build a home etc, I had a home owner tell me he scheduled several meetings with different contractors on a Monday driving about 4 1/2 hours to come into town to meet them and none of them showed up for the scheduled meetings that day and not even a phone call the guy is wealthy with multi-millions to play with liquid and still no one shows up I'm dumb founded, what's going on out there is this normal now ?

It’s way more common than you would think. There is still a huge lack of professionalism, integrity, and doing the simple stuff like showing up on time, doing what you say, doing what’s right…. It’s shocking. Makes it easy to compete!

Getting a job as a SUBCONTRACTOR is one of the few jobs out there, including Used/New car salesman, that one can get immediately after getting out of prison. To get reliable workers, find good character individuals, TRAIN THEM YOURSELF IF YOU ARE A PRO, HOLD MONEY BACK FOR THEIR TRAINING UNTIL THEY HAVE BEEN WITH YOU FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD, AFTER WHICH YOU CAN THEN RELEASE THAT MONEY SLOWLY. YOU HAVE MORE CONTROL IF THEY ARE EMPLOYEES vs. INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS. if you are hiring directly, MAKE SURE THEY HOLD A PERFORMANCE BOND for each job, that way if they walk away, their bond will pay to finish the project. If they don't have it, you may get it, charge them for the fee, or split the cost, or eat it just to ensure the job is completed by someone else, if need be. If they balk at getting one, even if you offer to pay for it, WALK AWAY FROM THEM. YOU WANT SERIOUS PROs not jokers, or ex cons. BTW RUN A BACKGROUND CHECK ON EVERYBODY. YOU ARE ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY CRIME IN SOMEONE'S HOME THEY COMMIT. FIND A GOOD PERSON, AND PAY HIM/HER WELL. SKILLED WOMEN ARE GENERALLY GOOD WORKERS I HAVE FOUND. HIRE THEM, TRAIN THEM, TREAT THEM RIGHT, AND YOU GET LONG TERM LOYAL EMPLOYEES, OR SUBS.

Listen I understand your frustration here. But not everyone is the same. I myself a "ex con" work very hard do a excellent job and I'll bet that also more honest than yourself. The ones that will do that pretty much stand out. Work on your people skills that's our job.

Hi Eric, What’s you feedback on how to make top dollar if you were a professional subcontractor for a company that buys all paint/material with no upfront deposits?? Thanks a ton. Kindest Request, Derek

ALSO FIND OUT SOMEHOW, WHICH IS GENUINELY SUPERCEEDING: PROVIDING GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE vs making a lot of money. Don't accept "Both" answer. Whichever they choose, ask "Why?". Ask them to give you examples of situations where they had customer complaints, & how they fixed them. Get 3 examples. These scum bags are ruining the good guys, and need to be discouraged. I am keeping a list of all bad experiences from all contractors, and developing a review site, as well as reporting to Angie's List et al. I will simply state what happened, and let people draw their conclusions, and decide if they want to hire them, without making any recommendation, or judgment calls for obvious legal reasons. Let their behavior, or action speak for themselves.

Is Angies List any good in trying to vet subs by their reviews and ratings?
@PaintingBusinessPro
@PaintingBusinessPro 5 жыл бұрын
Definitely not. Because the subcontractors you want are not spending any money on advertising - they are ONLY subcontracting. That's their business model.

why didnt you just go ahead and start the the job yourself .until you found someone.or offer more money to the best candidate.
@christoburger

Problem with this is I have experienced is that as long as you do the job yourself, it makes it very difficult to manage your quotation request appointments and marketing. Unfortunately everybody are going to go through dodgy contractors but thankfully these fly by nights tend to not last very long.

I’m starting my own business soon. Question #1, let’s say I charge $2000 for the job. I pay my subcontractor half of it which is $1000. Am I expecting my subcontractor to purchase the paint with that $1,000 I pay him with? Or do I have to give them a little bit more so that they could buy materials with?
@PaintingBusinessPro
@PaintingBusinessPro 11 ай бұрын
Our subcontractors pay for materials out of what we pay them. And for growth, it needs to be around 50%. At the beginning you can be a little higher because you don’t have any other costs yet

@@PaintingBusinessPro So, how do you or how can you make sure you keep your word and or promises to the customers i.e we will do an excellent job. We will keep the area clean. Ect, if you are hiring subs to do the job? And what can I say to the customer if the customer were to find out I’m using sub contractors that she/he could of hire with out your business?

As a subcontractor.. I assure you we dont get "overpaid" There's a reason we don't turn up. A more profitable job comes along. Good workers will always leave you with the bad ones left behind.
