The problem of the acrylic getting to hot and remelting can be fixed by increasing the speed.

+Nick Williams Thanks for the feedback as I was thinking this, so do we increase the number of passes to offset the increased speed?

actually what is the function of the hose beside the laser tip?

Air assist, it blows air at about 6psi clear the kerf and keep the lens clear of smoke so its more efficient...

Hi I bought one of these 40w chinese lasers off ebay and am just now trying to use it after having made the modifications like the air assist and honeycomb bed ect and I was just trying to cut some acrylic that is 4mm thick, I ended up trying the cut at 5mm speed and the power on the laser was max and i was unable to cut all the way through the acrylic in one pass, should I expect it to cut in one pass or should It take 2 passes. I did the nylon washer mod you did on this 18mm air assist head maybe down the line i will get this lens you just picked up. thanks jeff

Hi Jeff, I live in a hot climate and found I needed to put frozen water bottles to keep the temp down. At around 22 deg c, I use a lot less power to cut . 3mm acrylic at 50% and 7-10mm. 4.5mm acrylic I bump the power up to 70%. I have added air assist and just using stock mirrors and lens. New mirrors and lens should arrive tomorrow if tracking is correct.

I am going to put down that grid, but coat it with a rubber coating. I will be engraving exotic woods and do not want any marring from the steel.

+Kris Kumaroo if do this two things, first be sure to use pins as the laser will melt the rubber and two be careful of the fumes. Also let me know how it works out for you too :-)

Thanks for the reply. I just got off the phone with Lightobject and with all the modifications it almost seemed like he suggested getting the next model up 50W with all the features I want to put on there. I am confused. He also said they are coming out with their own version but its price point is 2k plus. It arrives Wednesday and I am now conflicted on what to do.

Last week came my K40. When I looked in the packaging, I was scared. The cutting head hung loose on the belt because all rolls rolled around in the device. The cutting table was completely crooked and was jammed. 2 mirrors are partially blind a single disaster. The dealer has promised me replacement but for the individual parts. I have now begun to take apart the K40. Will completely rebuild the laser cutter and replace all control elements with better ones. So in this condition it would have been life-threatening to turn on the K 40. Greetings from Germany
