Here's a case I recently had. The buyer had claimed they had not received their order even though the tracking number shows it was delivered to their address they provided.

@@edavidmartinez ​ @David Martinez If you have tracking added to the sale (especially if purchased shipping label through ebay) you're in the clear here. Up until it's marked as delivered you have an obligation to your customer, but once it's marked delivered, you're technically not responsible, and it becomes the burden of the customer to contact their local USPS office. If they're nice about it, I will always help them, but if they're shitty about it, I'm blunt - this isn't in your control, and no longer your responsibility, reiterate that the tracking shows it's been delivered, they need to contact their local USPS office to see where their missing mail is, and they are more than welcome to open an "I didn't receive my item" case. Once they do this (again assuming you have tracking added to the sale on ebay, this is VERY important for this step) I always escalate the case as soon as it lets me, wherein it will (SHOULD) be closed in your favor; if not, you can appeal to have it looked at again, which should always get you taken care of as this is covered in the seller protection. In either of these cases there are no negative markings on your account, and any feedback will be removed, good or bad. Happy selling!

I appreciate the through information. I sold a $600 dollar pair of shoes the buyer left positive feedback then the same day or very next day not sure the time filed a claim saying he never received the package. I paid for insurance on the package as well as out of my own pocket for shipping. I’m disgusted with dishonest people. I know 1000% that if I have a package coming to me personally I’m responsible enough to make sure I’m home or someone else is there to collect the package. This is happening to me with an other company. I have bought and item from a popular company and I had tracking information on my app but it disappeared, I phoned the company and the company said that my package was delivered and signed for but havent recieved it so I dont know what's happening. They wont even tell me who signed for it.

Make sure to get the tracking number from them. If you had it before, then you should be able to find it again. That will tell you everything you need to know. If it's an ebay purchase, then if the seller doesn't have a tracking number, you will win the case 100%.

He asked for full refund through EBay. I told him I’m not responsible for what happened after delivery and he told me he’ll let EBay resolve the case. I’m still waiting for EBay to step up. As long as you have tracking information and proof of delivery, you should be fine. The buyer will need to find out from postal office why it says delivered if they never received it. Some cases if it arrives at their post office, it will be recorded as DELIVERED. But then the local post will deliver it later that day or the next day. I've seen this happen a lot too where tracking says delivered 2 or 3 hours before buyer actually gets it.

Follow it and if it requires you to contact the post office or customs for duties/vat/taxes or any sort of importation documentation etc., be sure to know about it and get on it right away. The biggest problem is when buyers don't track their packages and leave it for weeks or months. I think as long as you stay on it, if there is any problem, the sooner you catch it the better chance you'll be able to resolve it. Good luck!

This is not the seller's FAULT. Ive had many packages stolen too that's left at the front door.Carriers need to be held accountable.

agreed. Mail theft is a federal crime too so these shipping carriers need to take full accountability if they make any errors but nowadays they have cameras, gps tracking, it'd be very hard i think to not catch their mistakes. As far as mail theft, I'm not even sure the carrier can be at fault. Seller did their job, carrier did theirs, and if the buyer doesn't have a door cam or a safer place to hold packages when they are not home, I think buyers also need to re-consider investing in security cams for their homes.

Since you are answering questions. January 5th I received my item in a small yellow package size of an envelope. I opened the package not knowing what it was because it was too small. As I looked at what was inside I see that it was my order from last December 29. I ordered Elgato for streaming live. I take a look at all the papers and saw bunch of my elgato pictures. And the. I asked my families if they had missed something and they said they didn't. So now I'm stuck with a paper version of streaming. Spent $84. So what should I do.

Hi and sorry for hearing about it. What you can try is simply open an "item not as described" case. Then explain what the problem is to ebay. Tell them what you got was not accurate or what was described in the listing. Good luck!

I have been dealing with this exact case, except I am on the other side. I didn’t receive an item that says it was delivered. I contacted the seller and they pretended to file a missing item case, meanwhile I filed a police report just in case it was stolen. One month later, after asking for updates and asking for a case number repeatedly, I asked eBay customer service for the number where I found out that the seller had lied about opening a case about a month ago. I was waiting for nothing. After less than a week, the case came back In the seller’s favor as you predicted in this video. What can be done after a case is closed besides appealing it from the buyer’s perspective. Can the police report do anything? Should I contact my bank? I can’t find much information on what to do from my point of view. I’m scared I might be out over $500. Please help. Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks!

I'm so sorry to hear this. When there is a problem with your order, no matter what the seller says, you should always make sure you are given a tracking number so you can see it for yourself. If the seller is unable to assist you, then you can open up an "item not received" case. If the seller doesn't resolve your issue after 4 days, you can then ask ebay to step in to make the final verdict. If the seller has not provided a tracking number proving it was delivered, you'd win the case and get your money 100%. If the seller did provide a tracking number and it shows it was delivered, they would most likely win the case. In your situation, I'm assuming the seller provided you with a tracking number and it showed as delivered but you didn't receive anything? In a situation like this, you want to first make sure the tracking number can confirm it was being sent to the correct address (yours) and not someone else's. If all is correct, then it sounds like an issue with either your local postal delivery or possible mail theft if it was left on your porch/front door. Yes, you did the right thing filing a case with local law enforcement but if there was no video surveillance from any dashcam, door cam, neighbors cctv or street cctv, it's unlikely they will ever resolve it. Yes, you are also correct the only other thing you could do is file an APPEAL of the case ebay closed in the seller's favor. But you only have 30 days to file it from the day it was closed. After 30 days, you can't file an appeal. So I would file an appeal and sometimes you can get an agent who might take your side and reverse the case. The other thing you can try is to file a claim on paypal. Open a dispute on paypal claiming you never received the item. Then the seller would have to provide proof of shipment and delivery on there as well. Keep us updated and hope it works out for you. I know it's not a lot of consolation but if in the event things don't turn out the way you want, it's still a very important experience and lesson for everyone to learn from. I've had mine, others have had theirs. I find that while it sucks to lose cases/orders, I try to learn everything I can from it so that next time it doesn't happen again or I know better what to do.

@@Seven-kg7dy First thing to do is check your tracking number and contact the shipping carrier that is responsible for delivering your package. It should tell you if it was USPS, UPS, Fedex etc. Call them as soon as you can to find out if they can confirm they delivered it to your address or to another address. Then you should also contact your local post office to make sure it's not there. Sometimes packages will say delivered but it's at the post office. Next double check and make sure nobody in your household took it and forgot to tell you about it (same goes for a concierge/front desk/reception if you have one). Also be sure you looked around the property sometimes delivery workers will conceal the package so it's not left out in the open (ie around the corner, under a porch or bush, etc).

What’s up man, I’ve sent a parcel on a signed for delivery but the post office delivery address has signed for it when it was scheduled for delivery tomorrow. They’re saying it’s marked delivered but they haven’t received it so I assume a delivery will be attempted tomorrow, but would I be okay in this case?

Good question! I had a situation like this where the tracking showed delivered but the buyer didn't receive it yet. It arrived a few hours later that same day. So yes, it's unusual but very possible that post offices can sign for deliveries and mark it as delivered.

Hi thanks for asking! Sorry to hear about this. First what I would do is confirm that the seller shipped the package to the correct address. If the seller gave you a tracking number, make sure to check it confirmed delivered to your address and not someone else's. Sometimes the delivery man could accidentally deliver it to another house and mark it as delivered. You could try and contact your local postal delivery or whichever shipping service was used and see if they can confirm the address was correct. Next, if you don't have a door cam, I guess there is no way to really know 1) if the delivery man actually came and delivered to your house and 2) if anyone had stolen it. Since you say you were at home, it seems unlikely someone stole it. It's still a possibility. Other things to double check: anyone in your household who might have taken and forgot to tell you, a neighbor ? (sometimes neighbors will take packages if they see it sitting out in the open, either to hold it for you as a friendly favor). Also make sure to check anywhere around the house if the delivery man may have put it somewhere less visible. It's also possible it's still arriving even though it says delivered. Sometimes if it arrives at the post office it will be marked as delivered even though it still has to go from post office to your house. If you open a case with ebay to ask them to step in, if the seller has a tracking number that confirms delivery, you may not win the case. Most sellers will be willing to help you out but if they did their part, they may not be able to do anything else after. Best of luck and keep us updated on how it turns out. I'm having this happen to me right now. I shipped out timely and wrote the address as provided, gave a tracking number, and it was delivered two days later at their front door. The buyer chose to wait two days before reaching out to tell me it was never delivered. They said they would reach out to their local PO after I responded to their case, but I have yet to hear anything back from them. I get the feeling they're waiting the three days to get eBay to step in when I've done everything in my due diligence as a seller. Sorry to hear that Peter. From my experience, as long as you have the tracking number that clearly shows it was delivered to their address and the address was correct as seen in the ebay buyer's shipping address, then any escalated case that goes to human reviewer SHOULD close it in your favor and you'll be protected. Even if they don't, and close it in the buyer's favor for some reason, you can always appeal it and get a different human agent to review it and they should reverse the decision back to your favor. The only instance where a tracking number says delivered but the seller still loses is when the buyer proves the seller shipped it to different address. That happened to me as a buyer and I was able to win the case even though tracking showed delivered. It turned out the seller had shipped it to a different address in my same zip code but I was able to get proof from the shipping service the address was not my address. Had a general question, I sold an item on ebay. I get an email saying " sale confirmed" with a shipping address.A few days later, when i click 'print shipping label ', a different address pops up. I shipped my product with the address that i received via email and it's delivered. Sorry for the late reply. I didn't see it in notifications. On ebay site, the buyer can always change whatever they want at anytime, even after a sale. But key is to check your PAYPAL information of the order transaction. That will always be accurate and stay the same at the moment of purchase/sale. So you will be able to see the original address, item description, price etc on your paypal transaction record. I've had similar cases like that but always won my case when I proved to them by showing them original info on paypal records. Best of luck!

How about I’m a buyer and I did not receive my package. UPS package progress shows package has (5) different delivery dates. Supposedly shipped 9/15/2021. To date I have not received any package. UPS progress shows the package has been bouncing around Brooklyn thru various situation since 9/20/2021 to the present 10/07/2021. My birthdate. It’s shown to be delivered (5) times! But to date no package. I had case with ebay but they closed it because I refuse to sign some insulting indication about perjury. What do you do if after you have responded and answered the buyer, the buyer keeps replying with the same unreasonable request and thus “re-opening the ticket” with action on my part needed. Heard something about a “have ebay step in” button, but don’t see that anywhere on the desktop interface? This is my first time having this issue as a seller and not familiar with the formal process. Sorry for the late reply! For some reason didn't get notification of this message. As long as you have a tracking number to confirms it was delivered, you'll be safe! The buyer can open up a case, and after 4 days if no resolution is found, you or the buyer can ask ebay to step in to make a final decision. Once the case is closed, it cannot be re-opened again and again. There is one appeal available should you disagree with the final decision but in your case, you won't have to worry if you uploaded tracking number and it shows confirmed delivered. Ebay will close the case in your favor. In other cases, if the buyer doesn't respond after 30 days, the case will automatically close by ebay in your favor.

If you are the buyer, and you didn't receive your order, then simply open an item not received case. If you are the seller, you will need to find that tracking number and show it to the buyer and ebay (if case opened) to prove you shipped and delivered the order. Best of luck!

This has been helpful, thank you! I just received a message from a buyer saying that they never received their package. They said the tracking number showed that it was at the post office (they have a P.O. box) and when they went to pick it up, the post office said they didn't have the package. I checked the tracking info and it said the package was delivered to the post office and then picked up by a person later that same day. So, either the person is being dishonest or there was a mix-up at their post office. I sent screenshots of all the tracking info and told them to check back with their post office or see if someone else who may have access to their P.O. box may have picked it up for them. It is a stressful situation. I hope they get their package. Thankfully it wasn't some high dollar item, but it may hold some sentimental value to the buyer 😕 Now I am not as stressed on my end after watching this video. Thanks again!

The tracking confirms delivered however when I checked the tracking number on the carrier system, it was sent to another city which 2000km away from mine. I tried to message the seller twice but he never answer. Although I tried to ask ebay to step in but the ebay system doesn't allow to ask Ebay to step in. Thanks for asking. It's possible that the seller either uploaded the wrong tracking number (which I have accidentally done to buyers too), or he definitely is trying to scam you. Did you open an item not received case? You can only ask ebay to step in after you open a item not received case. Then you have to wait 4 days to allow the seller to try and resolve it for you. If no resolution then after 4 days you can escalate the case to ebay to step in and they should check the tracking information and see it was shipped to the wrong address and award you the win.

I have checked my yard camera, but no package came in my house at the time that tracking information says it is delivered. I lost the case at first time and I am waiting for eBay to review it. Sorry to hear that Mohammad. The first thing you should do is call the shipping service if it was USPS or UPS etc. Ask them to confirm if the shipping address on the package was the same as your address or if the shipping address was different. That will tell you if the shipper made a mistake and sent it to the wrong address (then provide that evidence to ebay to help you win the case), or if the shipping service made the error in delivering it to the wrong address, then you have to deal directly with them (wouldn't be seller's fault). Thanks for ur amazing help! I'm still kinda confused though. My situation currently is: I sold a pair of shoes for $112, I even talked to the buyer to see if he wanted the shoe box since it was messed up, he said yes lol. Anyways, I send the package to him and it was delivered in 2 days. I have the tracking number and it proves delivered(no sign confirmation). The buyer claims to me over message he didn't get the item and well it says he did. Soon after he tried to get a refund through eBay, I remember giving eBay the tracking that says delivered, and I remember eBay messaging me saying it was in my favor and it's all good. Now, a week or two later, I have a negative balance in my paypal and PayPal is telling me to add money (full $112 despite eBay fees and shipping). What in the world do I do now? I tried appealing but I'm pretty sure it keeps sending me to a blank page. I'm very lost and please note I'm a newer seller so I'm even more lost lol. Please help if u can!

Update. Zero response as post office wont talk tor me as their contrac is with the seller not me. I've decided now to avoid Ebay's much as is possible. Some thieving swine has mu goods seller is not providing service.... it's a massive loophole

A good rule of thumb is anything over $50 send Priority, which is automatically insured up to $100, and anything over $100 add signature confirmation, adding a note to your listing regarding this is a good idea. . The funds will be in limbo till ebay closes any case that is still pending, I would add the finds as paypal will see it as suspicious. So many dirtbag scammers out there these days. I would change your listings to "Buyer pays return shipping", as this will greatly work in your favor.. Counterintuitive, I know..lol Maybe call ebay and ask for an experience rep to go over how you can protect yourself in the future.

My apologies...I'm not sure why I didn't get notification for many messages. I always reply but missed quite a few! If you had tracking number that proved delivery you should have been protected. The case would be closed in your favor. If it was closed against you, you could appeal it and provide the tracking number again...sometimes it takes a couple different agents to finally get it your way. Lastly, you could go the paypal route and open a claim there and show them the proof it was delivered.

Just make sure you shipped it to the correct address. If it's correct then you should be safe if buyer opens a case and escalates it to ebay to step in. Just provide the tracking number and proof of delivery (even signed). You should win the case. I'd still suggest to the buyer to check with their local postal office and find out if the delivery man delivered it to the wrong address or if someone the buyer knows signed it and took it for them.

It's really not the sellers fault if the shipping service makes a mistake or the delivery man makes a mistake. That's why I believe as long as a seller proves they shipped out the package and confirmed with tracking number, they did their job. Sellers can definitely follow up and try to help and find out what happened but I don't think they are at fault. Somewhere along the line, someone else screwed up. That's the part that sucks. The buyer has to contact their post office to find out why they said it was delivered if it was not. Always good to check with neighbors to see if anyone took it for you. If you have cctv at your house, even better... mail theft is still very common.

Tell them to open a case, once they do, resupply the tracking which shows it was delivered. When ebay goes to decide the case, you will win. Advise the scammer/customer to check with neighbors for misdelivery. And, if nothing they will have to contact ebay customer support, that they will address any refund, let them know when tracking shows delivered you will not refund or resend, period... I still get a couple of these a month.. Even if they leave negative feedback, just take it and appeal with ebay to remove later. They usually don't leave neg, or open a case, because it draws attention to their scam. I believe these people are ebay employees, who work with USPS personnel.. Hope this helps man!! Happy sellin!

100% agreed Mark. As long as the tracking information shows it was confirmed delivered, if you get this escalated and have an ebay reviewer, they will almost certainly award you the decision. Even if you don't win the case by some fluke, you can always appeal it and provide the proof of delivery tracking number and another agent will almost certainly reverse the decision back to your favor. I found that ebay agents are all different and sometimes you get 2 or 3 nos but if you keep asking to another agent, one of them will eventually side with you. I've had this happen many times now where the first and second ebay agent declined my requests/appeal but a 3rd agent saw I was right and fixed everything for me (refund and defect removal and negative feedback removal) etc.

Full tracking is offered based on the shipping service you use. Some shipping services do not come with a tracking number and often are much cheaper, but risky to ship anything without tracking number. Depending on what country you live in, you'll need to check with your shipping services available. USPS, FedEx, DHL express for example all have full tracking, but DHL Globalmail only has partial tracking (half way only). Services also do provide signature option for extra fee. I'd do that if the value is very high. Anything else, just shipping with full tracking number (meaning it will track the package all the way until it is delivered to the recipient's address).

if it hasn't shipped out yet, then you should contact the seller and ask what is happening with the order. It may be delayed or the seller may have forgot to update the status and did ship it out. If it was already shipped out and still hasn't arrived after the expected date, then you can open an "item not received" case and the seller would have to prove they shipped it out to you with a tracking number, else you win the case and get your moneyback.

Thanks for asking! Yes, normally when you ship with the cheapest method, no tracking number is included or even if there was a tracking number, you wouldn't be able to see detail tracking information. So it is common and legal on ebay however, not a good and safe practice for sellers. You don't have to worry as a buyer. If you don't get your order after waiting the estimated time for delivery, then if you open a case you will win it 100% because the seller has no tracking number to prove it. So don't worry. Just wait patiently for it. If it doesn't arrive, open a item not received case and you'll get your money back 100%. If the order is coming from China or someplace near there, do give it some time. It can take between 30-60 days to arrive typically from China with economy service.

Thanks for asking. As long as you have proof of tracking number that shows it was delivered, you should be safe with ebay in the case of an opened case. There is no requirement for insurance/signature for orders valued under $750 so it's not your responsibility to have insurance. Those would be additional services/costs the buyer should pay for.

As long as you have a tracking number that shows it was delivered (and you shipped it to the correct address), you should win the case. The only thing left for you to do is make sure you update the tracking number in the open case so that the ebay agent can see it when it gets escalated by the buyer (if they escalate it). Thank you for asking and sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds like you've already tried a case. First off, if you opened an "item not received" case and the seller uploaded a tracking number that confirms it was delivered, then they will most likely win the case and it sounds like you said ebay closed the case in the seller's favor? You have up to 30 days to appeal that decision. What you should do first is do some investigative work with the shipping company and your local postal delivery and find out if they can confirm whether or not the package was delivered to your address or to another address. Sometimes the seller could have wrote a wrong address on the package and it got delivered to someone else. If you can find that proof, then present it to the appeal. When you appeal the decision by ebay, submit any documentation or proof that the seller did not ship it out to the correct address. You may get the decision overturned. If the seller DID in fact ship it to the correct address then it sounds like it's a problem / mistake made by the actual shipping service / local postal delivery. In this case, you cannot expect ebay to refund you. You'll have to find do your own personal inquiry with local law authorities and the shipping service to see if they made an error. Lastly, did you pay via credit card? If you did, you can try to open a case via your bank/financial institution and if they investigate and have enough proof you didn't get it, they could do a chargeback. Try to see if you can open a case with paypal. Feel free to give me any more updates and hope things work out for you. I know it's horrible feeling when we get scammed either intentionally or by error. Does the seller have a good reputation? Long time member with high feedback score?

If you have tracking number that shows it was delivered, then you should be pretty much safe if the buyer opens a case. You don't have to do anything, but I do always communicate with my buyer and give them some tips on what to do. Tell them that they need to check at their local post office in case it is there waiting to be picked up. Or ask them if anyone in their household took it and forgot to tell them. If there was a front desk or concierge, sometimes they have it and didn't notify the tenant. Ask if any of their neighbors typically take their mail if they see a package left outside front door and worried that someone might steal it. Some neighbors actually take their neighbors parcels just for safety. Make sure the recipient has also checked everywhere because sometimes the delivery man will conceal it so it's out of plain sight for potential theft. They may put it behind a bush, under the porch, around the house etc. Last but not least they should call the delivery service to confirm and track down who last delivered the package and make sure they actually did indeed deliver it to the correct address. Mail theft is always a possibility and if that happened, it is not the responsibility of the seller (you). It would be the buyer and the local authorities to have to track it down if they can. It's always good to see if anyone had a door cam or car dash cam or neighborhood cctv that might show what happened to the package.

Sorry to hear this. The best thing to do is open an ebay case under the reason, "item not as described". Be sure to also take photos and submit them. Usually the tracking information shows the weight of the box/package too. If nothing was in the box, it should show how little the weight was as another detail to show ebay.

You can go a little above and beyond by trying to investigate for the buyer by calling up the shipping service and/or local post office and file claims and try to figure out if they can confirm it was delivered or not. It's possible the recipient is either trying to scam, or someone in the household took it and forgot to tell them (a common one), or it was taken by a neighbor if the package was left outside in the open, or it has been left somewhere concealed like behind the house, back door, under porch, behind bushes etc..... lastly, it's possible mail theft is involved or the delivery man delivered it to the wrong house but marked it as delivered.

Simply open an "item not as described" case and the buyer will win it. That would be a really awful thing for the seller to do! On the flipside, it would be a very awful thing for a buyer to do if they claimed nothing was in the box when something was and they just took it out and then convince ebay nothing was shipped (or replace it with a damaged identical good and say it arrived damaged).

I know this video is kinda old but I hope you can respond, I bought baseball cards from 3 different sellers on 3 different days. Not a hardcore collector just wanted a few of my favorite players, I’ve ordered one card prior (also different seller) and it arrived fine. However eBay has it marked that all three of them were delivered and I got notifications for them being delivered all within the same hour. Upon checking they were all sent to the same post office because they all had the same zip code on the tracking number. I checked my porch and my mailbox and moth are completely clean. If they don't, you have to open an "item not received" case and then either the seller will refund you or after 4 days, you can escalate the case to ebay and they will close it in your favor with full refund.

Thanks for sharing. There's always the possibility it could be an attempted scam, but most likely it isn't. I've noticed that many buyers actually don't even track their packages even though we upload a tracking number. I don't know if it's because they are lazy or they don't know how to track packages but quite a lot have told me many days and weeks after it was delivered that they never got their package and then when I told them it was probably at their post office waiting to be picked up or at customs waiting to be cleared, they got their package. Hopefully your buyer will get theirs. But yes, as long as you have proof of tracking and delivered, you should be safe in case they open a case and ask ebay to step in. Cheers!

Hello thanks for asking. Most sellers from China on ebay ship with economy airmail to international destinations. Most of the time they won't have a trackable tracking number. You don't need to worry. If the item doesn't arrive to you after giving enough time for delivery, you can always contact the seller and tell them you never received it. They will almost always give you a refund. If they don't you can simply open a n ebay case called, "item not received" and the seller would have to provide proof of tracking number so without one, they will always give you a full refund back. You won't have to worry. Just give it time until June 24th as they estimated. Best of luck! I order a lot myself from China and I've always received refunds if I never got it or I had problems with the item.

what you should do is call the shipping service (was it UPS or Fedex etc), and record the conversation or have them confirm the package was shipped to an address that wasn't your address. They won't be able to tell you the exact address it was shipped to (policy) but they can confirm yes or no if the address on the package was a different address than yours. Once you get that proof send that to ebay when you open the case you didn't receive the item. They should then close the case in your favor and get your money back.

Thanks for asking. Here's something interesting that happened to me just a few days ago. I had a package delivered, confirmed and signed. The buyer said they never received the package and opened a claim. I was near 100% sure I'd win the case as I always have if proven with tracking info that it was delivered. The case was closed in favor of the buyer and refunded. I knew this had to be a mistake by a manual human reviewer. I contacted ebay again and got someone better to manually review the case and they overturned the decision and closed it in my favor and thanked me. So if you had evidence from tracking information that proves it was delivered, then you will win the case. If they already closed the case against you, then you should "appeal" the case and hope the next person that reviews it will see clearly the tracking information you provide that it was delivered. Remember, you only get one chance to appeal. You can wait up to 30 days after the case closed to appeal but do it within 30 days because after 30 days, it's too late to appeal. Good luck!

I am sorry to hear this. You did a very nice thing as a seller for your buyer. I commend you for it. The problem however is since you voluntarily gave the buyer a refund, you cannot get it back unless the buyer voluntarily chooses to repay you. If the buyer chooses NOT to repay you even after receiving the order, they are not at fault or obligated to pay back. Ebay or Paypal will not be able to step in and do anything. I've come across this myself and have decided as a seller I would never voluntarily give a refund back unless I was willing to accept complete responsibility for the loss if the package did arrive later and not get paid back. So I would never voluntarily give a refund. What I would do is wait until the buyer decides to open up a case. Once a case is opened and if you can't prove you delivered it with tracking information, then in that case, I'd have no choice but to refund the buyer or risk getting a seller defect. That is only time I would recommend you actually refund your buyer. Most buyers are pretty honest and have integrity and do pay back but I have experienced the ones that don't and so from those lessons learned, I would never refund voluntarily anymore only in the event that a case was opened and I was at risk of getting a seller defect, I'd refund and take the loss and live to fight another day.

@@zpecialist No problem! In that case, still, since you had decided to give him a refund it was your choice and ebay can't reverse your choice. If ebay had stepped in and closed the case in the buyer's favor, you could have appealed it with the new evidence showing it was delivered and "possibly" get a reversal. I've had that experience as well and usually I would get the case reversed and win (get my money back and defect removed). You can always just try and ask ebay via their messaging system (go to help and contact and scroll to the bottom and find email/message us) and explain all the information with tracking to show them it was delivered and depending on which agent you get taking your case, they may or may not be able to do something about it. Since it was your choice to refund the buyer and not ebay's deciding to close the case in the buyer's favor, it is unlikely they can do anything about it, but it's always worth a shot just try and message them about it. What I found with ebay is that the human reviewers are all different. 2 or 3 might say no, then a 4th says yes lol. They are never consistent and each human reviewer can give different results. Oh I'm sorry to hear that. If the tracking number says it was delivered, you'll most likely be unable to get a refund. Since the account is inactive now, that is irrelevant to the case. Ebay will just see that tracking confirms delivery and that's all. However, if you can find out whether or not from the shipping service the delivery was sent to another address and not yours, then you can get that evidence and open an item not received case on ebay and present that evidence and you can get your refund. That is the only way.

if the buyer doesn't respond to the case for about 30 days straight, the case will be closed in favor of you. So sometimes its a good thing if they don't respond. Just let the case ride out. Of course the risk is, they may ask ebay to step in at any time and then a verdict will be made (I only do this if I know for sure I'm going to win the case, then I don't care if the buyer doesn't want to respond....it'll automatically close in my favor if they don't in 30 days). It depends on what you ordered. Did you order only 1 item or were there several items in the single sale? Sometimes sellers have to ship multiple boxes from 1 order so they have to give you a couple tracking numbers. If you only ordered 1 thing but got two tracking numbers, I'd be suspicious. On ebay, you can only list 1 tracking number, so you should also check to see which tracking number the seller uploaded onto ebay. That could tell you a sign. The other issue it could be is that sometimes shipments have to transfer shipping services during transit. So the seller gives you an initial tracking number but midway during shipment, it gets transferred to another postal service and you get another tracking number with that. This is most likely your situation. A lot of times I ship things and it starts with DHL tracking number and then it gets switched to a USPS tracking number for final mile delivery.

if the seller sent you 1 item in the box when you ordered 2 (for example), and the tracking says delivered, then you don't want to open an "item not received" case. You'd lose that case. You want to open a different case called, "item not as described" and tell them it's missing an item. Buyer will almost always win that kind of case. Item not as descried (INAD) case is much worse for sellers to deal with than item not receid (INR) cases. Try and open a INAD case. Best of luck and God bless!

first thing is to contact the seller and usually if they are good seller, they will resolve the issue for you either by refunding you or sending out another order. If they aren't willing to help you, then open an item not received case. Then you'll have to provide the evidence that it wasn't shipped to your address but to another address. If it was sent correctly to your address, then double check with your local post office and visit or call them to see if anyone picked up the package. Contact seller and try to resolve first with them. Usually they will do the right thing if they are a reputable seller. I've ordered many times from China before and anytime I had non-delivery, they always either refunded me or offered to send another.

I have a similar case now, but I am a buyer. I am using a freight forwarder to get my items outside the States, so I gave an business address. The tracking says it arrived and was available for pickup, however, days after it says that was pickup but nobody pick it up and the company that I use for that doesn't give that service. Thank you for your question! Yes, this is a sticky situation because technically the seller did the right thing and delivered the shipment to your business address. It sounds like you are saying that the freight forwarder service you use doesn't pick up shipments left somewhere but only receives it directly to them? You are going to have to contact the business and find out if there is anyway they can pick it up. Or try to contact the shipping service that used and ask them if they can reschedule another delivery attempt to your business. I don't know the reason why it was left at a pick up point instead of being directly shipped to your business. If they had attempted to deliver to that business and it was closed or nobody was there to receive it, they will often leave it at a pick up point such as the post office or depending on what service you used (for example UPS), they have their own pick up location for orders that were not successfully delivered and had to be left in one of their pickup points to be retrieved. You may be able to contact them (for example UPS) and ask them to try a re-delivery attempt.

I had an experience when the seller and I scheduled a redelivery, but this time there wasn't any kind of attempt. What is worst someone picked up the package and it says on ebay that was delivered. I am pushing my forwarder service to do something, but they continue telling me that they don't give that kind of service. Also, I contacted the seller and he told me he sent the package through ups; however, ups sent it through USPS. Is there any possibility that ups pick up that package?

I don't know which country you are in and where the shipper was shipping from, but it is common for US shipments going to international to be shipped out via UPS first and then handed off to USPS international or the country's local postal service carrier. If a delivery attempt was made, and wasn't successful, they should leave a note telling the recipient to call the number for re-delivery or to pick it up. It sounds like the only thing you can do since business won't pick it up, is to try your best and contact USPS to reschedule a delivery attempt to your business address.

First thing I'd do is double check to make sure the tracking information confirms it was shipped to your address or not. If the seller was scamming, he could have intentionally wrote a different address and shipped out a fake box. You'll need to call the shipping service and ask them if the address on the box matches your real address. If it did then it sounds more like possibility of mail theft. Or be sure to check anyone in your household who may have taken it and forgot to tell you. It's also good to check at your local post office because sometimes they will mark it as "delivered" if it arrived at your post office before it even arrives to your door. I have found every issue I have had is with buyers with no feedback. First time was a vhs tested and working without flaw, they claimed there was two seperate issues wrong with it which in my opinion would have been rare or improbable that both of the issues could have all of the sudden occurred. Problem is shipping at 15.5, item sells for 39 plus shipping and I have to pay for it to get shipped back to me. Then would be out a total of 31 in shipping with an item that will barely break even after cost of item and shipping from a bad buyer. I returned the money, counted it as a loss of 24 and blocked the seller. What would have been the better course of action on this if there is one. Thanks for the vid, waiting on one now to be settled, the buyer never contacted me and opened a case stating there wasn't a tracking number which there was, I resent with time stamps and no reply.

Thanks for your comment! Yes, buyers with no feedback is always a risky one but not all (people have to start somewhere right?). The unfortunate and sad part about ebay for sellers is that IF the buyer claims the item is not as described (or any kind of damage/defects) they will always win the case 100% of the time. The seller must approve a return and pay for it OR refund them. There is no way a seller can prove the buyer intentionally damaged it. There is a small workaround that I am about to make a video on to share but this only works IF the buyer opened a RETURN CASE and not an Item Not Described case. In a return case, you can simply accept the return, then choose the option "Confirm you can't send a label", then the buyer would have to send the item back to you FIRST before you refund them and pay for the shipping fees. In most cases, if the buyer is trying to scam, then they won't go through with the return. The other thing I've been telling ebay to add to their system for years now is to have a visible history/reputation for buyers. It's unfair that we as sellers have a history from our feedbacks but buyers don't since all they can receive is positive feedbacks. We should be able to see how many times a buyer in the past year has opened claims. So for example, in your case, if the buyer has opened claims 5 of 6 times in the month you'd know that's a red flag. If it was the buyer's very first time opening a claim in 2 or 3 years of being on ebay, that at least tells you the buyer doesn't have a history of doing this and is more trustworthy. Best of luck.

@@breakaway2x I agree 100% another thing they should do is make it to where someone as a new buyer would need to have some sort of feed back, or a sertain number of feedback before they are allowed to open a claim that automatically is set to side with the buyer. That has always been my biggest problem selling on eBay is the bias judgment always siding with the buyer. There are some good moves they have made over the last few years, but the seller is set to fail selling sertain items. I try not to sell anything worth more than 100 and starting to go away from items that require a bigger cost in shipping. Minimize my risk. You would think ebay, knowing they have people taking advantage of the system as buyers would show they are attempting to protect the sellers as hard as they are protecting the buyers. I know they have worked on it because 4 or 5 years ago it was out of hand and I quit selling until recently.

Thanks for asking! If you have a tracking number and it says it's delivered, first you need to contact the actual shipping carrier that was used. For example, if it was shipped by UPS or Fedex or DHL and then contact them and ask about if it was delivered to the correct address (your address and not some other address by mistake or intentional). If it was delivered by your local postal, then contact your local postal service. Also depending on where you live (a house/apt/other), your package may have been left at reception/front desk/concierge and that's why it says delivered and but not at your door. If you don't have any of those and it's supposed to be delivered to your door, then check with any members in your household that could have taken it and forgot to tell you. Last resort is to contact the seller because if the seller shipped it correctly to the right address and the tracking number says it was delivered, you'll most likely lose the case and not be able to get your money back. It's always good to just be polite because the seller might actually help you out. Good luck!

Thanks for your question. Interesting situation. If the tracking number you provided clearly shows that it was delivered to your customer's shipping address they provided, then you are safe. It is the buyer's responsibility to retrieve or pick up the package. If the tracking information says it has been returned to you, it needs to show that it has been "delivered" back to you. In my case, sometimes when it says it was sent back to sender, it doesn't always mean it was sent back to you but it may have been sent back to the previous collection point/transfer point depending on the type of shipping service you used. It would be a good idea to ask the buyer to contact their local post office first, and if not there, the next transfer point (which could be a holding facility like a USPS or whatever your shipping service company was used before it was transferred to local postal service for final delivery).

Hi! So I had a buyer who opened a case on ebay who claims item has not been received! I did wait for the buyer about 2 maybe 3 weeks to make payment and on same day I packed and delivered myself to USPS. I got a receipt and tracking number. I did not however respond to buyer so I would not upset him more than he was. I ordered a gtx 1050 ti on eBay for $200, but it was marked as delivered but delivered in wrong area code, I live in the 28311 area code but it was delivered in the 28314 area code. I didn't add signature confirmation because I got a pop-up and I read it very briefly and I thought the signature confirmation was automatically added. I gave up pretty much because eBay refused to help me even if I had all the evidence. I just found out that they automatically add signature confirmation if the declared value is $500 or more?(is this true?) Do you think it's possible to get my money back? or sue eBay?

Oh, I'm very sorry to hear that. That's a lot of money to lose. If you used ebay's Global Shipping Program, then signature confirmation is not required to receive protections on ebay. If you shipped via your own self, then in order to receive any protection from ebay for such a high value item ($750 or higher) you need to purchase a signature confirmation. If you did not, and the buyer later opens a payment dispute/claim, ebay unfortunately cannot help you. The only help you can get is filing personally via your own financial institution (either the bank or credit card company whichever was used for the transaction). Did the buyer pay via paypal or credit card? In the case of ebay helping you, that is a final verdict once they know no signature confirmation was purchased. The only chance you might be able to get some help is if you contact paypal (if it was used) and send them the proof of delivery via your tracking information to them. They will judge based on their own criteria whether or not you qualify for paypal's seller protection. I have in the past had a similar case where the buyer later claimed someone unauthorized use of their credit card and made the purchase but I had already shipped it out to them and confirmed to paypal with a tracking number when it was delivered and paypal covered the loss for me. But the value was not anywhere close to $750+. I also had been a very long time client with paypal with outstanding track record so that probably helped because I have heard in some cases they won't. It's worth a try to contact them but you only have a window of 180 days (that's about 6 months). If it has passed, it's closed for good. If it's within 180 days, you can still appeal, but not to get your hopes up, in your case because it has already been a few months passed and the value of the goods with no signature confirmation, it's very unlikely but give it a shot. At this point, I think the best thing you can do is to learn from past mistakes so you will protect yourself better in the future if you continue to sell. Always use signature confirmation if you shipping out high valued orders (some shipping companies also offer insurance which doesn't cost much to add to the shipping bill). It's worth it for expensive items.

Thank you for your question. If you voluntarily gave a refund to the buyer, you won't be able to get it back unfortunately. The only way is to contact the buyer and ask them nicely if they would be so kind enough to return you the money. Some of them would as I have experience honest buyers like that. But some of them may not as they think because it came late, they deserve to just keep the money and the item. The only way to get money back is if ebay closed the case in favor of the buyer and then you could appeal it by showing them the tracking that it was delivered and they could reverse the case. But honestly, I think if the buyer waited long enough (beyond the estimated delivery date) and you gave them a refund, that is a good practice as a seller. Even if you take a loss in this one transaction, it's better in the long run because you live again to sell another day. If you don't refund them and they win the case, you could lose selling privileges permanently and that would be the worst case outcome. I have learned as a seller sometimes you gotta take 1 step back to take 2 steps forward. Best of luck!

If you have a tracking number that clearly shows it was delivered, then you should be safe. Nothing is 100% guaranteed but you are definitely better off having a tracking number to prove you delivered the goods to them. If the buyer opens a case, then simply make sure you upload the tracking number for proof and the reviewer should close the case in your favor! Good luck!

It means they tried to deliver to you but there was no way to either access your residence or business. If you live in a gated community or an apartment that can only be entered via code or concierge letting you in, then you should check with your concierge/security. If you are a business, they may have tried to deliver to you on a weekend (saturday) but the business was closed. Lastly, simply call your local post office or shipping carrier and you can easily arrange them to re-schedule a delivery to you again.

if the case opened is a "item not received" case and your tracking confirms it was delivered, then it won't matter what the item was. They will only see if it was delivered or not and close the case. If the case opened is about "item not as described" or "item defective/damaged" etc., then yes, they will want to know what kind of item it was, but ultimately, even if you are truthful and the buyer is a liar, ebay will put the responsibility on the seller to accept a return, or refund the payment. Sad sad but true :( That's where ebay really fails for sellers.

I opened an INR request with the seller, only then did they provide tracking information which shows that the item was supposedly delivered and signed for by a co-op in my city, but not my post code. Thanks for asking and sorry to hear about that! Is the seller in the same country as you? Also, did the seller actually ship it to the address your provided (the address on your ebay account) or did they ship it to a different address? If they shipped it to a different address, no matter if it's close to you but still different, you can provide that evidence in the case to ebay and you should win the case. Seller's must ship it to the correct address. The tricky part is contacting the shipping service that was used to tell you this information as most shipping companies cannot tell you the address it was shipped to specifically. What they can tell you is simply if it matches your actual address or if it does not. Once they say, it's different, then you need to get that proof in writing or have them send you an email or get a contact number from them which you can give to ebay to call to confirm that the shipment was sent to a different address and not to yours. I had a similar case as this where a seller gave me a tracking number that shows it was delivered but I never got anything. I tracked the down shipping company and found out the seller shipped it to a different address but was close to me. I won the ebay case once I provided that proof. They confirmed that the item was shipped to the wrong address, not even to my name, and the package was too small & light to be a laptop. Ok I ordered a pair of PF flyers on eBay. It says its delivered but I only git 2 packages out of the 3. 3 separate packages? The reason is because on ebay you can only list 1 tracking number. If you have 3 shipments coming to you and the tracking number says delivered, that only means the tracking number listed was delivered. The other one may still be on the way. I'd give it a day or two as it should arrive on the same day or sometimes it will arrive a day after (assuming they were all shipped out together at the same time).

Sorry for the late reply! It is easy to open up a case. All you need to do is go to your order history page and find the order you are having an issue with. Then at the right hand side there is a drop down arrow icon where you can select a bunch of options and you should choose, "I didn't receive my item". Then write the message/details and click submit and it will open a case for you. Best of luck!

hello, i have a similar issue but i’m afraid that i’m being scammed. the tracking number given to me by the seller was to another address in my same zip code and i confirmed this by calling fedex customer service. i can’t open a case on ebay bc it shows that it was delivered but it’s not my address. please help me, it’s the first time it’s ever happened to me

Hello, sorry to hear this. You may not be able to open an item not received case due to tracking saying it was delivered but you can try to open up a different case as a last resort such as Item not as described and then explain your situation in that case and hopefully an ebay rep will understand this. If ebay won't refund you then open a case with paypal (assuming you paid via paypal which I always recommend). You can open a case in paypal claiming you never received it and the seller would have to provide proof. Once they provide it and paypal should see it was to the wrong address you should get your refund. Good luck!

Thanks for asking. Signature policy only applies to orders in excess of values over $750. Anything under that value does not require signatures per ebay or paypal policy, however, some shipping services like FedEx, DHL, USPS, may have their own polices on mandatory signatures if value is in excess of $400 or $500 etc. It can vary depending on the service used.

In my case I was the buyer. I do not live in the USA but a trusted person receives my things and sends me a photo as soon as the item arrives, the residence is far away, there are no houses around and in the tracking it appears that it was left in the mail box. I waited 5 days for the package to be delayed and contact the seller also I opened a claim for lost items on the USPS website. The seller did not give me much help, I asked him to verify if the address to which he sent is the correct one since the usps page does not give me that option, The didnt want to help me , I will have to wait for ebay to resolve the case . Any advice would help me. I doubt that the article has been stolen, I think it is an address or a mail problem. What can I do? I was discouraged to see that ebay fails in favor of the seller in these cases and I got a seller who could not care less

I'm sorry to hear this. It sounds like it could be an issue with the seller sending it to the wrong address. You will need to ask USPS to send you the information where it shows the actual shipping address so that you can try to provide that evidence to ebay in the case. I've been hearing a lot lately about cases like this where items intentionally get delivered to a different address but the tracking shows delivered confirmed so ebay just sides with the seller. The only way to combat that is to show evidence that it was actually shipped to the wrong address. Please let us know any updates on how this goes. It could help others in similar situation as you. @@breakaway2x Thanks for your advice, getting information online about a shipment in USPS takes a long time and is tedious, I keep waiting for their answer. After opening the case on ebay and leaving negative feedback, the seller made the return of the money at first he didn’t want to give me any solution at all. But I still dont have the same confidence buying on ebay like before . Not all buyers seek to scam things happens that there is are lost through the mail or because the seller does not write down the address correctly, in which case the buyer has the chance to lose from what I see in ebay?

I sold eyelashes and the buyer opened a case that they never received the package but tracking showed it was delivered. Ebay still gave the buyer a refund and gave me my own money but took fees

Thank you for sharing. You are saying that you lost the case but ebay still refunded you and the buyer? This is a first time I have heard of this. However, did you still get a seller defect? As you know, we can only have 2 or 3 at most before our accounts will be suspended with more than 3 defects.

Hi thank you for asking. First off, what country did you buy it from (USA?) and what country was it shipped to? Sometimes packages will be marked as "delivered" when they were transferred over to the local delivery carrier or final mile delivery so it may still be on the way to you. If it doesn't arrive in the next 24-48 hours, then I would open up a case and see if ebay can help you. Check to see if the correct address was written by the seller on the package. Tracking information should tell you if it was shipped to the correct address or not. You should also contact your local post office and give them the tracking information to see if they can find anything in their system.

@@aoultiteali8320 Thank you for that information. The good news is that you are so close to each other. Wherever the package is, should be really easy to find it. In the tracking number, does it say it was left at door or anything like that or does it say it was "received by: (name) and signed"? Usually tracking information will say whether it was left at porch or if it was received by someone with a name or signature. Call fedex right away to double check and confirm the package was delivered. If you open a case and ask ebay to step in, they will most likely decide in the seller's favor as they will see the tracking number confirms correct address and delivered status. So if I were you, I would first check with fedex and your local post office personally. It sounds like the seller did what they were supposed to do and the fault is on the side of the the delivery service/personnel or if it could possibly be mail theft and would need police investigation if someone stole it off your porch.

@@aoultiteali8320 thanks for the tracking. I see it. Yes says left at front door. You had better ask anyone in the house if they took it in or your neighbors if they took it for safety for you. The fact that it was an ipad and if the packaging shows it, I would suspect it would attract a lot of potential thieves! Ask anyone who has a cctv at their home or cars with dash cam parked may have recorded it and captured who took it. It sounds like somebody took it. Nowadays ppl are installing cams at the door/porch because of mail theft.

Yes, sometimes it will actually say delivered before it arrives to you because it was marked as delivered by your local post office and then later in the day, it's delivered to you by local postal service. Give it a day or two and if it doesn't arrive, then call your local post office or visit them. Also, be sure that nobody in your household took the package for you or look around your property if it was dropped off at your residence. Sometimes delivery people will hide your package to conceal it from being open and seen to be stolen. They may put it at the side of your house, behind a bush, under the porch, etc. Also if you have a neighbor that takes your package sometimes to protect it from being stolen, ask them. I've seen neighbors do this time to time for other neighbors if they see a package left wide open on your lawn or porch etc.

I have a buyer claiming they never got the package and they want me to claim that it never got delivered so they can get a refund even though the tracking shows it was delivered. I told them there was nothing I can do since it is showing that the package was delivered.

You are correct. If the tracking number you have shows it was delivered to them, then you have done your part. I would still advise the buyer to check for a few things: check within household if anyone took it and forgot to tell them, check with neighbor if they sometimes take packages to hold for them cuz if left outside sometimes neighbors will take it in so it doesn't get stolen etc., check around the house carefully sometimes packages are put somewhere out of sight so that doesn't get stolen etc., tell buyer to call their local post office and find out if they can verify who delivered it and what address (sometimes, postal workers make mistakes and deliver it to wrong house), or simply check at post office if it is there to be picked up. Sometimes packages are marked as "delivered" if it arrives to the post office. Good luck!
