eBay Scammer Took Me For One Heck of A Ride

I've been meaning to tell you this one for a while now. I'm sure most resellers sadly get a scammer or two but I've been really lucky up until now. I thought I'd share it just in case it is happening to one of you. We've got to look after each other.

I just found you. I don’t eBay or sell. I love old school Aussies and wanted to hear your story. I’m sorry that happened to you, it bugs me that they paid the scammer after the abuse and obvious scam. I’m really happy you got your money though. You get the last laugh. Cheers mate.

Just subscribed and enjoyed your video. Very informative. I’m from Brisbane and have just started selling on EBay again after a long break of many years due to being scammed. My circumstances were different then and I was selling a wide variety of things I’d find new and cheap but not from op shops. I started selling some of my good quality clothes as I needed the money as I am a sole parent and I was struggling. I sold a lovely dress shirt to someone for $9, everything seemed fine and back then there were no tracking numbers. After the sale, 6 weeks pass by and I get a message from eBay saying that the buyer had started a charge back case to their bank and eBay were investigating. I followed up with Australia Post but it would take a little time to investigate a lost item. Less than a week later the case was closed by EBay, finding in the buyers favour, I only had one email conversation and I was so upset. I didn’t have my shirt, I lost the money I made on the sale plus a charge back from the bank. It ended up with me being around $35 out of pocket and I did nothing wrong. I never sold again after that.

Less than 2 years ago when I was a brand new reseller, I rec'd a "Item not received" message the day it was delivered! As a new seller, I kind of panicked but I checked the tracking number & lo and behold, the package was delivered 3 hours prior with a photo of where it was! Ebay handled it immediately. To my surprise, the woman left me great feedback. Go figure!

eBay totally screws over the seller if there’s an issue. I still think it’s worth the risk, but it’s unfortunate that the buyer can do no wrong. Can’t even leave a negative feedback on buyers to warn other sellers.

I highly doubt they wanted to copy the game and then send it back. There would likely already be an iso online of that game as it’s so old. Chances are more likely they wanted to keep the game to add to their collection but just didn’t want to spend over 100 dollaridoos to do that. Hence why they tried the 50% refund. That imo is what they were always going for. Either to get it free or highly discounted.

I have had my share of scammers over my time. My block list is huge. I had a buyer this weekend who messaged me saying a cd was not as described. The cd did have a disc missing, but it was all in the title and description. They wanted a full refund straight away, when I said it was all in the titled description, they said they would send it back and that the info about the missing disc was not in the description. Another reply to them pointing out the specific info by quoting it and then they went and left an abusive negative feedback straight away. I saw this pretty quickly since they had my attention and I was now at my desktop. So I jumped on ebay chat and they helped me straight away and removed the feedback. I then wrote a message to the buyer in one tab, telling them how I felt about them, and in another tab added them to my block list ( which also blocks messages as I have that set up ). Then hit send on the message, switched tabs and hit block in the other, then went and had dinner with my family. Some shit can get you down like this but I was able to deal with it pretty quick. In the past I have had to go to the length of getting stat decs done to avoid scammers with returning stuff under false cases ect. Fun times always on ebay.

It does make it hard though doesn’t it so frustrating for us trying to do the right thing. And the things they come up with absolutely crazy, things I wouldn’t think of because my brain doesn’t work like that.

I have a many gaming items I'd like to sell on ebay but I always hear stories of scammers like this, it's put me off selling on there.

It doesn’t happen all the time like I said it’s the first time it happened to me in over 25 years. Depending on where you are, I sometimes do bulk purchases. However, I do encourage you to sell on eBay as you will make more money in long-term than me buying a lot of stuff in bulk.

Thanks for the video. I had a very similar experience when another eBay seller bought a Father Ted DVD from me, said it was damaged and eBay gave them a refund. I couldn't even get a picture of the damage or the return of the DVD. I checked the customer's own eBay store and guess what they sell? DVD's! I gave up eventually on trying to get my money back but still check their store on occasion - I'm waiting for them to list it for sale. I might be old but I'm not stupid.

I had two recent silly buyers. One left neutral feedback, said he was happy w/the purchase but then listed everything he didn't like about it. Another buyer left a msg asking if he could return the item because he didn't use it. If you're not going to use it why did you buy it. o.O

I recently had a buyer reach out to me DEMANDING a partial refund for an item that hadn't even been delivered yet. The item was being sold AS-IS as it was, so a partial refund was not happening regardless. Then he opened up a claim saying that he had ordered it by mistake. In the claim he stated that he wanted a partial refund...for an item that he ordered by mistake? lol I contacted e bay and told them that I thought he was trying to scam me. I also reported his messages and him as a user. The rep I spoke with said that it definitely looked sus and that based on what he saw, I didn't have to worry about it, and that he would have someone look into it and that I wouldn't have to give the guy a dime, even if he returned the item. He never returned it, and they ended up closing his account after about a week or so. 👍😉

I didn’t have anything like that, but I did have a person from Australia that cancelled an auction on me this week for no dam reason!!!!!! Annoying AF!!!! I messaged the seller and he never responded……super annoying Australian seller. Appreciate you mentioning contacting ebay about the auction. Hopefully ebay can get the seller to relist the auction……

eBay immediately revoked the negative feedback. I think times like these if they won’t let us put negative feedback in then eBay should be putting a strike on the buyers account.

@geelong-flipper If you can get your feedback up, as quick as possible... basically, by buying as many small cheap items or actual things you need, sellers almost always leave feedback. Once you have more feedback, scammers are less likely to bother you and move on. I'm not saying it will stop by any means, but it will help! Goodluck!

I had a buyer use me as a rental service before.😅 My shipping address was correct, but on file, I think.. maybe my billing address hadn't been updated. Ebay sent a return label to the buyer with my old address. Fortunately it wasn't a expensive game. Just refunded the buyer and ate the loss.

Hy mate , i dont believe he copied the game , they are easily downloadable. Im sure he did it for and "upgrade" for his version of the game . This scam has been around for a couple years in tje video games , usually they buy and expensive game , then claim its ariived in terrible condition , then put there dodgy version in for the return, hence i better copy for themselves, hope that make sense , love your videos keep up the good work !

Its good ebay helped you but it seems the scammer won also by getting their money back. As sellers cant leave feedback, you might find if sellers did, that they have tried to scam other people too as they knew what they were doing!

As always, you are 100% correct. They did get their money back and good chances are that eBay simply gave me my money back from eBay stash. My main point I guess if I did miss making it was don’t lose your cool even though you want to And immediately go to eBay for assistance. I would’ve had no issue if the customer wanted to just return the item it was the fact that it was damaged and that I was threatened with the item being damaged that I did not appreciate.

lol ebay absolutely does not look after you. the customer service reps are replying with scripted answers. I've been selling on ebay for 10 years and I can promise you it has nothing to do with acting with integrity. If he sent it back damaged there would have been a 50% chance he'd be fully refunded from your account. I'm sorry, but it's the truth.

Ebay do NOT look after their sellers, only the ones who have youtube channels. I was scammed years ago and the guy broke so many of the rules, including opening a paypal and ebay case at the same time which you're not supposed to be able to do. Long story short, it was a near new (in box) projector and he wanted the bulb. What I received back was a badly damaged unit that I had to throw in the bin. He got the bulb for free, I lost 2 x postage + the item and it's value, around $300 at the time, which I couldn't afford to lose. Also, when I collected it from the PO, as soon as they scanned it as received, case automatically closed in his favour. I couldn't appeal, nothing. I called them, too bad so sad, they didn't care. I left and have never sold (and will never) on that platform again. They support criminals. Sorry, but from I've seen on youtube, it's only the people who make it public who get looked after
