I’ve been thinking about making a webtoon for a while now. I wrote this really bad story for an English assignment in school, but I still like the concept of it, so I’m thinking of turning it into a web comic. It’ll also help me practice digital art too. The story is about this terminally ill guy looking for a place that can cure his unknown disease. By chance, he meets this guy who runs a hospital and says that he can cure him. The protagonist goes into the hospital but later finds out that the hospital traps its patients there and turn them into these half human-half monster creatures so they can grow their population and overtake humans. The protagonist meets people who want to escape with him and they make a plan. I don’t have a bunch of details on it yet, but this video has really helped me a lot, thank you!

1. Format (Comic - A4/5 or Webtoon - Verticallity) 2. Thumbnails (mini versions of the pages to test the sizing, understandability, and flow) 3. A beginning and an end (even if the end doesn't come for a long time, you need to know it - as you fill in the journey arc from there) 4. Establishing shot (first panel - and when scenes change - that tells the audience where the characters are, what they're doing, what the environment is like) 5. Don't overdesign (shadows, patterns, crosshatching from different angles and 100s or 1000s of times)

@EbbeWaxin8 ай бұрын
It is a challenge, but worth it in the long run. Examples are Batman and Hellboy - Most draw Batman with the cape covering him, Hellboy artists usually have him in heavy shadows. But if you want to overdesign, that's okay. The risk is always that you will burn out on drawing that designed character and it will take longer to produce your story/comic/illustrations.

I just want a basic cliché story to check if I like making comics, so here's my starting brainstorm for a cute yuri romance bcs why not Protag: random unpopular otaku kid The Protag has a friend who's also a otaku and doesn't have that many friends. Protag falls in love with popular and nice girl. The story would be a wholesome slice of life of these two falling in love and their dynamics, trying to make the relationship work and getting to know each other, with the supporting best friend character that'd be specially important at the start, while they're figuring things out. I'm thinking of making a pilot episode on webtoon and if I like it I'd make it into a comic, the idea is for it to be a "feel good" time for the readers

@@SprinkleMyDoughnuts I didn’t mean that actually, I wish u read that more carefully, ofc she can make it huri that’s her decision and i understand that there is an audience for these type of things, well yuri content may be sensitive to some people, for example i know sm people including me who can’t see these things, and I would love to see her story and don’t want other to not be able to see it cuz of a little thing, maybe it sounds selfish, again I’m not saying that she has to do it straight so it appeals to the mainstream, I’m saying that because more people will see it, I’m sure her story is amazing and it would be a waste if some people missed it just because it’s yuri, u can’t force others to see things that can’t see, plus again and again I’m not claiming that she SHOULD do that because that and that, I’m just expressing my opinion here, u don’t have to act like I asked her to give up entirely on that I just tried to explain what I’m trying to say politely, what I don’t understand is that why do you try to encourage her in that way idk I don’t get it plus I’m not rlly good at explaining, I hope u understand

How would you feel in my shoes if people constantly told you that? Tell me.
@hime.Bahan18 ай бұрын
@@SprinkleMyDoughnuts im asking you the same question too. plus i never discourged her because yuri is just not rlly "popular" . my point was why not make a great story like hers appealing to everyone, plus these kinds of thing are personal preferences. A great amount of people including me doesnt hate yuri or things like that, its just not our cup of tea, she asked for opinion, and i gave her mine, and i never meant to be offensive(sorry just in case i sounded like that). And as well as that i also know and acknowledge that there is a huge amount of people that likes yuri, and it is their cup of tea. She here clearly asked for opinion from lots of perspectives online, and i as any other human who read this comment, gave mine. i encourged her and told her that i liked her story as well as saying my personal preference that yuri is not my cup of tea, and i tought i said that in a polite way.I see nothing wrong in what i said, but honestly i felt that when you told her not to listen to my opinion it was a bit rude, i just told her what i thought and i felt a bit offended by your comment.

The beginning of my story is complicated. The technical beginning is the main character benjen waking up from a strange dream of his 16th birthday, but it really begins when he escapes from his elemental kidnapper, Iko. Benjen falls from the plateau cliff and into the kingdom, where he meets his future best friend Bo, the generals son. It ends when Benjen fufills his part in the ancient prophecy, and brings elementals and kingdom people together once again. Since Benjen has completed his purpose he dies… well, kinda. But not really. He leaves behind an empty shell, which still has a pulse, and his soul is taken by the blue devil, a strange being that lives in his dreams. His soul is taken to another mysterious dimension, and a redeemed Iko and sad Bo are left to deal with the aftermath of the war.

Hey man great video, I'm an illustrator writer and comic book student. I enjoy the vid but I don't agree at all with point 3, in long stories I don't think at all about the finish with few exceptions, specially for character arc. I try to create a relatable character and just see how the story affects him, that improvisation makes it more fun to write and more believable for me. I think is a good tip, but I think is more a decision in your personal process not a rule as such. Keep up the good content ❤

Also the establishing shot doesn't always have to be at the beginning, can make things repetitive and boring. Good tip for beginners but if u read a lot you will find out is not necessary always.
@EbbeWaxin Жыл бұрын
Thnx, and yes how you tackle a story / character arc is different for everyone. However, that also depends if you write for yourself and your own published comic. And situation stories work, but can get very loose and unfocused. Characters usually have goals even if they are small goals. But i see what you mean 😉
@EbbeWaxin Жыл бұрын
@@termineitor828 Establishing shots is always good to have if the environment is new to the reader, Yes you can withhold the location of its for suspense and mystery or maybe you already established the environment before in the story. What do you recommend for a person that's starting her first comic and thinks of the possibility to do an physic form of the comic but also wants to to make it a weeb comic, publish it the two ways? What form should I make my comic? And what's the best site for an comic with the 'classic' form to be publish if I do it that way?

i would say - do it like a physical comic first, then convert that to a webtoon comic. Check : kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6fZZpuvd5uIfc0 - and for hosting : webtoon or tapas. Otherwise create your own site.

This was amazing information some of it already knew but the information given, gave me a different view of how to do things. Honestly for my comic it doesn't really have an ending because it's just supposed to be little funny strips here and there. I was kind of going for a storyline similar to Adventure Time where you have the beginning and then it doesn't get serious until a bunch of episodes later?

People who go out for milk, their ending is always a mystery. At least that's how it was for my dad. Still don't know where he's at
