So at 65, I’m buying my first e-bike. And the step-through, EQ is my choice. I have a very nice bike already, but I can’t get my 1984 Pinarello Treviso w/1st gen DuraAce click shifting, with its tiny gear cluster up the hill from my house without walking it. (Like a vintage race car, it’s not the greatest choice for comfort or riding to the pet store to pick up a 25 pound bag of dog food). I wanted something for running easy errands (dog food, milk), traveling the 2 miles to the museum where I volunteer, light exercise around a hilly neighborhood, riding on asphalt-packed gravel recreational trails (former rail beds). I’m not going to be doing Mtn trail riding, RAMROD or the STP, or training for a race (done those). I’m also not going to be daily commuting or all my grocery shopping. On my list comfort and reliability and a good service package are the top three items. If I want to go mash pedals I’ll pull out the vintage bike and while I have the knowledge and the tools to service my old bike, I don’t want to mess around with rotor brakes and an electric motor. Cost-wise- this is in the ballpark of what I would want to spend on a non-electric commuter/errand bike. I also wanted a bike with a removable battery because of my charging situation. I’m getting it from REI because they offer three years of maintenance for free with purchase. (I worked in a bike store and raced road and track back in the dark ages so I know a little more than the first time bike buyer)

Too bad that the step through battery is located on the front down tube: defeats the purpose of an easy step through. Why not place the battery in back of the down tube like many other bikes?
@Are_We_Having_Tea Жыл бұрын
@@dennisluz6453 on this geometry there isn’t enough room with the larger tire and add a fender and there’s even less space, and you wouldn’t be able to remove the battery. For a lot of people, especially if you are in an apartment or condo with a bike storage room, you need to be able to take the battery with you to charge it. And this 65 year old finds it easier to get her foot through the small space even with a water bottle cage compared to swinging her leg over a top tube - or a fully loaded grocery box on top of the rear rack.

You're right. The battery obstructs the "easy" step through. Yet, I loved riding around the outer Cape Cod.last summer!@@dennisluz6453

I just bought this bike at local bike shop on sale for 1.400.00 So far so good! I'm a big guy and it hauls me around. My bike didn't come with a back rack so I bought it separately. I also upgraded the pedals.

Just a note about the bike features. The base model comes with a cadence sensor, the EQ and S have torque sensors. Also, the Base model has mechanical disc brakes. The EQ and S have hydraulic disc brakes. S has a front for suspension. Looking to buy the S soon.

Just test rode this today. I saw a steep hill up to a corn field I tried and it made it. I'm overweight and haven't rode a bike since I was a kid. The brakes sucked on the demo. Wouldn't lock up the wheels but super fun to ride

Having full access to local bike shop service is a benefit, but they are asking about $600-800 for that. Perhaps the frame build quality is better than comparable DTC models? In any case, it’s good to see a shop brand option below $2k, especially a cadence sensor-driven one whose PAS levels correspond to power output rather than arbitrary curves that surge you up to a target speed and then cut you off (other than top assisted speed cap). What is the peak torque output of the motor? Also, what’s the status of its UL certification?

What are you doing for tidy front cable management because when I went to test drive mine at a bike store I thought that the two handlebar cables seem like they are going to snag everything that they can? And I am having difficulty mounting the bike because of the rear rack because my inseam is 30 inches and I am a 5 foot 10 inches tall weight 205 pounds and in poor physical condition male age 66. Cannondale Adventure NEO Allroad EQ step-over $1,825. I did like that I found that it does climb step grades with pedal assist level 3 in the lowest gear when test riding.

70 inches isn't short. check you have correct seat height, normally people prefer a too low rather than a too high seat but you could check to be sure. Usual correct height is so the knees do not lock at 6 o'clock, retain very slight bend. You can choose to mount from a high side, like put the bike on the road while you are on a curb, or high side of slight slope. At least not the opposite. You can lean the bike slightly towards yourself before swinging over. The old classy technique was to push off and ride the pedal, then swing over. My wife does that all the time and it sure looks elegant. i don't because I use traps. With an ebike it might be suicide...

I'm waiting for a full suspension commuter .. Rack, fenders included. Who doesn't like full suspension bikes? Our roads and sidewalks are very bumpy and uneven. Very sketch weather all year. 30 plus mph 1,000 watt nominal rear hub, 52-60V and 20 ah battery would be great. I have like 3 or 4 choices of the thousands of bikes that fit the bill. I'm not a moped fan. Love to have a real adjustable seat and something to pedal over 25mph. Maybe I can just put my AR Kepler rear wheel and hub on a Magicycle Deer, along with the controller and display.. Baam! Or just get the Amp Rides or Fabulous full suspension folders with full suspension. Not a fan of Wired Freedom suspension at all.
@samus47999 ай бұрын
Rear suspension lowers the efficiency of a bike by a huge amount. Front suspension as well, but less so. Better to just go with a springer seat for urban commuting my friend.

Might be worth checking wheel build. There is a lot one can do to ensure a reliable wheel build. A bit advanced for most people, but with the internet today, not a big deal. I bought a spoke gauge a long time ago, and they aren't too difficult to make if all one wants to do is compare tensions, making one that will give you a build specification requires some known quantity, but with a new bike, at least the average should be worth something. One can also do the pairs thing to break them in, then recheck tension. This can require minor truing after the tests and stress tests are done. Broken spokes are not great, but one should not worry about the rest of them When the odd spoke breaks people will often loose confidence in the whole build, while the remaining spokes may well last for ever. People sometimes get one bad spoke and get the wheel rebuilt, and then they get another. Better to stick with the build, unless it was all from a very dubious source.

Cannondale continues to be as poor a value as an electric bicycle as it did before they used electric motors! I have a Canadian made electric bicycle with a 48V 14.4 battery, a 500 watt Bafang motor, hydraulic brakes and an 8-speed Shimano Altus derailleur all for $1800 CD.
