Changing a chain oiler on a Echo CS 310 chain saw. I couldn’t find a you tube or info from Echo on repair or replacement of the oil pump. It’s not that difficult with just a little info which Echo and the dealers are stingy with.

Thanks for the video. The dealer told me they are gravity feed and it should leak oil even if it’s sitting. Now it’s stopped. Checked to see if the oil hole is blocked and there’s no flow. Now I know why. Thanks again👍

This could help. I've got a CS-310 that has leaked bar oil since new. After cleaning up an oil puddle for the 99th time I decided to check for a fix. I'm going to check the entire oiling system. Thanks for all the details.

Thank you so much for your video. Rope trick to remove the clutch was so helpful. In my CS-352 the oiler gear was melted to the plastic. Little bit of dremeling the plastic down so it would spin without obstruction. Was able to remove Oiler using a machine screw threaded into the bottom, pryed it right out. Saved me some dough in paying $100 in labor for a shop to fix it! Much Appreciated!

what rope trick? is it in this video? How do I get the clutch off? thanks
@jeremyh80663 ай бұрын
The rope (one that doesn't shed- nylon) is fed into the spark plug hole to jam the piston, keeping it from turning, so you can counter-rotate the flywheel. Keep chain brake off. Remove sprocket cover 1st. Theres a few videos out there that explain and show how to use the rope. The fancy flywheel removers dont work well. Bought one and then returned it. @danieljamar5639

Thanks for putting this video together. I have a cs-353 that looks to be the same. It has an oiling problem. After changing the clutch I'm familiar with this area of the saw and your video helps. Recently the the bar studs pulled out of the housing so if you know how to fix that I'd love to know. Owning this chainsaw has turned me into a mechanic. I spend more time fixing it then using it. But now I'll be a lot more careful with the next one.

Yes I have a CS353 also and it seems very similar. I do like the saws but Echo is horrible with info for working on their saws. The one thing that drives me nuts is if the chain is not tight it comes off the bar when I am cutting brushy wood like tree limbs or bushes. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the video. I just finished replacing the pump in my CS 310. You can make a simple puller out of a long (2.5" or more) 5mm .8 bolt, a nut, a washer and some spacers or tube of the right ID and OD. The pump removal was super easy using the puller. No prying or banging, just turn the nut and out it comes. Maybe I can do a simple, quick video and show how to make a puller.

That be great. My problem was the original pump had no treads so I had to push it from the top. Wasn’t hard but the replacement pump had threads and it would have made it much easier. Thanks for the comment 👍

Oil would not flow to the chain and bar and they over heat and ruins the chain and bar if you go too long. I saw the chain starting to smoke and that made me start checking the saw for problems. I saw the bar and chain were dry.

Just checked and line drips oil but no oil to bar/chain would you say bad oiler?
@edwardjackson97912 жыл бұрын
It is possible but I would check that your outlet is clear also. My pump would bind and I could feel it when I turned it. You can turn the drive screw by hand and see if it binds. Mine would stick every turn.

If it turns freely it is probably ok. The pump is extremely simple. It is just a hole drilled in the shaft. So I would look at all the other parts for damage or correct placement and clear passages. The way I’ve seen people check is to clean the saw and start the saw with the bar removed to see if you get oil flow. Hope this helps.

@@axzelothat is the drive gear for the oil pump. The wire arms are driven by the clutch drum. It should just pull straight out. Just wiggle it and pull straight out. It fit with the gear on the oil pump to drive the pump. Hope this helps and if you have any questions please post and I’ll try to answer if possible.

How do you know how to align the oiler with the saw when you install it? I read that if you don't align it properly, oil won't flow.
@edwardjackson979111 ай бұрын
That is correct. When I removed the old pump I marked where the suction grove was so I could install the new one correctly. Also check the depth so you get the new one back in and aligned with the discharge hole. It is not to hard to get the depth correct because the pump gear has to align with the drive gear and you can see it on the clutch side pretty easily. Check the video at about the 3:15 point where I try to explain it. It is hard to see because of the small sizes. Hope this helps

@@edwardjackson9791 I didn't mark how mine came out, so now I don't know to line it up.
@edwardjackson979111 ай бұрын
@@hagsmich ok . If you have the same saw, when you are installing the pump the saw will be upside down. Have the saw throttle pointed toward you and the bar would be point away at the 12 o’clock position. The groove (suction side) in the pump will be located at the 6 o’clock position. The discharge hole ( one without the groove ) will be at the 12 o’clock position. Again this is with the saw upside down looking at the bottom. When you are done and the saw is back together run the saw with no bar so you can check the you have oil flow. If you don’t have flow I think you can adjust the pump from the bottom without taking the saw totally back apart just remove the suction tube from the pump suction and adjust the position. Hope this helps. Good luck. Send comments on if this helped and any thing you learned so others can benefit 😁

@edwardjackson97912 жыл бұрын
No, it was actually horrible camera work. I had to get my saw back together and make the video in one take so I could use it. I just wanted to get the video made to help other while I had it apart and you could see the oiler pump. And I wanted to make it because I could not find any info on this issue and ECHO has horrible tech support unless you just want to take it in and spend $100 dollars for a simple repair.
