Thanks for this video .. I just did the same thing in my house except I pull power from a light switch to create my outlet.

Hi David. How did you pull power from a light switch. I have an old intercom system I want to replace with the Echo Dot trying to figure out a way to power behind the wall. I also have the mount genie.

@@dmdarius1 Hi, I just followed the instructions I saw on another video about "installing an outlet from a light switch". Pretty just taking the main power and ground going to the light and splice them so you can power both the switch and new outlet.

Great tutorial, one question though, what do you do if you need to power cycle your echo? I was thinking about doing this but I wonder if wiring the outlet to a switch might be useful.

@TheSupernaturalguy Great question, if I need to power cycle the echo, unfortunately I have to turn of the break for that entire circuit. :-( yes that is the downside - but I do not want to add a switch (ugly) just for reset

Looks like you added a piece of wood for the outlet to rest on... how difficult was that? Also how hard was it to hammer the nails inside the hole?
@DIYGEEKTEXAS3 жыл бұрын
@David Braylark Actually I did not, I got extremely lucky to have just cut the circle right above that piece of wood. However you do not need any support, the echo only weighs about 1 pound and the mount kit hugs the drywall good enough probably to support 10-15 pounds easily.

The final install looks super clean but you have two issues; buried junction box and a low voltage cord inside a wall. Both of those are big fire hazards unfortunately.

This is a great tutorial of what not to do. It’s illegal and unsafe.
@starwaves99173 жыл бұрын
Problem is is this to code? What if the power adapter for whatever reason catches on fire and you never know because it’s inside the wall.
@DIYGEEKTEXAS3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure this is to code. This is an interior wall. No insulation. I think it is safe.
@pat74732 жыл бұрын
This is absolutely not to code in any state. It's considered a fire hazard for several reasons. That cord is not in wall rated. Also the junction box is considered buried. Although the unit's cord is low voltage, it is a fire hazard when run behind a wall regardless of whether there is insulation or not. Looks good though👍.

Is what kind of smart switch is that?
@DIYGEEKTEXAS3 жыл бұрын
It is not a smart switch, it is an amazon echo dot mounted on the wall

Please DO NOT put a 11v outlet in the wall that is a code violation
