When I got my Spyder, I used eco mode thinking the gas mileage would be better. Then I saw a Shawn Smoak video about what eco mode does to the Spyder engine and I stopped using it since then. I enjoy the performance of the Spyder without the eco mode. And your test result confirms my test results as well; the gain in gas mileage is minimal at best in eco mode. The sweet spot I found is 65mph or 105km/h; I achieve regularly 32-34mpg. And, yes, over 70mph or 115km/h fuel consumption increases and gas mileage drops quite a bit. Cheers Chris

I used ECO mode for the 1st 500 miles of ownership. I hadn't ridden a bike in perhaps 15 years due to injury then that P word thing happened. Anyhow I did the Can-Am Experience twice because there was an extra slot and the leader wanted me to gain more experience garnering my interest. 30 days later I took possession of my new 2023 Spyder RT Limited in Dark Marsala Red. Those 1st 500 miles taught me a lot. When i realized I could press ECO mode again and turn it off oh man did my ride come alive! MPG? Maybe you're right, Chris, there may have been 1 MPG differences between the two but the experience was definitely night and day!

As already mentioned, Eco mode throttle response mapping will simply be more on the gentle side vs normal mode it is perfect for driving in Rain and gravel roads. In all other conditions, I'm driving in normal mode. Living in Germany with 75% no-limit Highways, a higher MPG is not really what I'm looking for. Just fun is enough.

75%! Wow, I had no idea. That’s great.
@LarryMattingly-l7n7 ай бұрын
I have found in my first 3,000 miles on my Spyder, the Eco mode is noticeable in stop and go conditions, not highway cruising. My throttle response isn't as aggressive and appears to limit the higher RPM's. My MPH is noticeably improved under stop and go conditions, especially with my wife riding along. You might want to try your experiment again under stop and go conditions.
@SpyderChrisYT7 ай бұрын
I will do that, thanks for the input.
@SpyderWayne7 ай бұрын
Do not believe all the crap you see on various forums, unless you want to believe that BRP is knowingly trying to damage their engines... come on now. really ??? Eco mode slightly changes the throttle response. What is your RPM at 70 mph in Eco Mode? What is your RPM at 70 mph in Normal Mode? Is there any significant difference... Nope. Eco mode throttle response mapping will simply be more on the gentle side vs normal mode. The RPM difference, at speed, will likely be pretty much the same, so you won't see a significant mpg difference. Any small improvement is due to the slightly more gentle acceleration when you twist the throttle. And, oh yeah, Eco mode helps new riders, with a signal when to upshift.

The LAST place that I would try to compare eco to normal mode is a steady state highway ride. " ECO Mode Smart Assist helps you optimize your shifting behaviour " It softens /slows your throttle response. In a steady state highway cruise, you aren't giving it much of an opportunity to do anything.

I would agree with Wayne's assessment. After 4 years riding a Spyder I don't see any advantages to eco mode mileage or performance. Thanks for the video

I use eco mode in and around the town and or reversing down the drive as it appears more softer / sluggish so for me while im learning is a good thing in my view. Once i'm a little more confident i will turn it off and only turn it on in tight space when I have to do tricky monovers etc.

I’ve found that you can put an additional 0.4 gallons into the fuel take after the I initial shut off of the pump. When I first bought my 2021 Can Am RT Limited I played with the ECO mode, and decided it didn’t increase my gas mileage significantly or increase it at all, whether on cruise control (which I use a lot) or not. The best gas mileage I’ve had with the bike was on a trip from SoCal to Woodenville, WA (which is east of Seattle), riding two up, plus gear for a 10 trip. Going up I averaged 30.9 mpg. But, going back I averaged almost 34 mpg. We did over 2,700 miles. I used the same route both ways. I joked with my wife that I had better gas mileage going from Woodenville, WA, to SoCal because we were basically going down hill to SoCal. The Spyder just doesn’t get great mpg. Prior to my RT I owned three BMW touring bikes, two K1200LTs (in-line 4s, 115hp) and a K1600GTL (in-line 6, 160hp) and all three bikes got better mpg. They need to buy their motors from BMW. The RT should easily get 37 to 40+ mpg, but it doesn’t. It’s not a deal breaker for me because I bought the bike for a specific reason. But, they need to put a little effort into improving gas mileage.
