Күн бұрынMinnows (Phoxinus phoxinus) trying to pass Annacotty weir on the River Mulkear, Co. Limerick, July 2024. I did not record any Sea Lamprey spawning activity at this site this season, and there are no redds present downstream of the weir. We are now at the end of the season. This is of serious concern as this was one of the most reliable spawning sites for this species in Ireland. My campaign to remove this weir over three years ago received 10,000+ signatures. However, despite all the promises, not a single thing has been done to help fish passage at this site to date. While we fail to address migration barriers and water quality issues, our native fish populations are being replaced by non-native species like these Minnows.

It has no purpose or use, it's an ornamental weir
