Ecoflow wave 2 is graining popularity recently. No doubt it is a revolutionary project with it's heat pump function. But nothing is perfect, I will tell you everything I find that is not perfect about it.

Because it uses a compressor, it needs a high surge current, like a car starter battery, and also to deep discharge continuously, like a camper "house battery". Not many batteries can do both, though I'd have thought they could do it with capacitors. Maybe a future Wave 3 will address the issue.

More reviews about this product are starting to show up. Based on my friend's experience with this unit, I would recommend everyone who considered buying one to give it a second thought. She encountered numerous issues, including problems with leakage, insufficient cooling ability, and it was way too bulky to be considered a portable AC.

Hi, some reviewers opted to NOT connect the intake hose essentially avoiding pulling in hot air from outside and making the WAVE 2 more efficient by recirculating the cooled air in the van or room. What are your thoughts on this? Keep in mind that in hot places like Nevada the ambient air itself is warm and not just the sun.
@timmysrvlife
@timmysrvlife 10 ай бұрын
Some more tech oriented channels discusses this topic. I am pretty sure it will not make it more efficient. Lacking more technical explanation, just think of this, you have air ejecting out, there must be a place air will come in, either from the intake hose or some other cracks from doors, windows etc.(or you would be pulling a vacuum). Hot air will come in one way of another, use that to cool condenser is better than have it come into the room directly.

Hi Timmy, I just bought a Wave 2 and have been testing it out. On AC mode, mine makes a little noise other than just the blowing air. Not super loud but noticeable mostly on the lower blower setting. I have heard the same noise from window AC units before so maybe it's normal (but those could be old units with issues). From what I gather, it may be just normal sound of refrigerant passing through the evaporator. If you put your ear up to the front filter area of your unit, do you hear that sound too? Just wondering if something happened in shipping or this is just normal to a unit where you are close to the evaporator. Any info is appreciated.

Yeah, there is refrigient sound in the coils. Or it could be compressor sound from your description. I am not sure what exact. But as long as it's not louder than the blower fan, it's no big deal.

Early morning my three newpowa 220w panels can be producing merely 20watts of Solar. My W2 battery may have as low as 1 x LED lit. As such I can easily power on my W2 to output 55F cold air. The Solar will feed the W2 battery. While this is happening I can also plug in my w2 power charger. You can recharge the battery with both Solar and wall outlet 120v at the same time even while the W2 is putting out 55F air.____Do you know if you can plug in a Delta Max direct to the W2? Recharging the W2 battery via DC to DC. I read the W2 can accept 820 watts from a Solar Generator. Of cource direct DC to DC is the most efficient.

Just tested it out. I removed the Dogbone from W2 to W2's external battery. From the Delta 2 Max xt150 plug in to the W2 xt150 plug in... I attached the EcoFlow xt150 cable. With the Delta 2 Max 500w mppt port___ I attached 3 x newpowa 220w Serial array. At noon I was receiving 470w Solar. Running the W2. Looks like my W2 External battery has became a STAND for the W2. I will add another solar panel for the Delta 2 Max second mppt. That way I can run my W2 from early morning to Dust. Just from Solar. When the Sun goes down my Delta 2 Max's 2048w battery will be fully charged frmo the day's Solar input.

@AquaTech225
@AquaTech225 4 ай бұрын
I just picked up well ordered a wave 2. But I have the mark 2 also for a while now. Like I told the other guy. The wave 2 is basically the same as one of the cheapest window units you can buy from Lowe’s/Home Depot. Them are 5,000btu of cooling. For $150 The mark 2 is 2300btu of cooling. So slightly under half of the ability of the smallest Home Depot window unit. The mark 2 has done good for me. But I rather have the choice depending the time of the year. How portable I want it to be. An how much battery juice I would want to burn through. Both of these AC units fit a very niche market area. That honestly nothing else can. Least as of yet. For the least amount of power draw, to work well with solar/solar generators a portability. The only other options there are are evaporative cooling coolers and or swamp coolers. Unlike an actual AC unit running a compressor that actually removes moisture. Both of them add humidity your pulling the air over water or ice. And depending the temp. Burning through tons of ice. An if the area is humid. Neither of them things is good for that. If it’s humid evaporative cooling can’t really cool the air because it’s already saturated to the air passing them wet find or whatnot. Can’t really evap to take heat out of that air. An a swamp cooler is just eating up ice and adding extra humidity. That option is just fans. Only other option is portable like them roll around plug in units. An them are going to draw a bunch of juice. An aren’t super portable a due to the juice they draw. Less practical. For off the grid running from battery storage. So you come back to the best options on the market. Mark 2 a wave 2. The wave 2 is 5100btu cooling which just say is as good as one of the small window units for a home. But with the benefit. That if you run it in a lower mode. You can get it to lower the juice it takes to run to atleast 3/4 of what it takes to run the same size window unit. May even get the power draw even lower. In eco mode or something. Unlike a window unit. The only thing the settings control is the fan speed. But seems like the compressor is just running or not. Least with the mark 2. The fan speed would change but also the speed of the compressor changed from normal high. To the boost mode it would be sped up a lot. Than in eco mode it was running real slow. An the fan slowed. Drawing a good bit less juice. I have used the mark 2 in the later end of the box humid Louisiana summer in a tent a few times. It struggled some in the day. If it wasn’t blowing at you. But after the sun dropped for a little while. All was well actually cooled and got decently cool. Which I wasn’t really in it in the day time anyway. So didn’t really run much in the day anyway. A the mark 2 at high power it may of been the boost mode. I don’t remember all the way off hand. Was like 238ish watt draw. But during the night I didn’t run it on the boost mode. I left it on eco and was fine. An let the compressor run a lot slower. And had it connected in the the 2000wh Bluetti combined with its attachable battery. Between the two. And 4 200watt panels in the day. It was holding its own without much issue. While also having a small 12v fridge running. Ofcourse that didn’t run but a fraction of the time to keep it cold. But you these units are limited that’s a fact. A say for the wave it’s a lot easier to cool a room in a home that the room ceiling is insulated an well protected from the sun. An the home is insulated like a home also. An if you rigged up a same capacity window unit up to cool a tent or some outdoor/off the grid living area. It’s just not going to do as good. Tents an any mobile living area isn’t as well insulated from the sun ect a home is. But you work with its limitations. Anywhere is possible. But if you can have your living area being cooled more in a shaded area helps. String a tarp over a tent so the sun can’t hit it at all. Stick some moving blankets over the tent top and sided before putting on the fly. Ect ect. An any way to work with its limitations and work with that different ways. To capitalize on its ability. An both units do great for what they are. Anyone says they’re bad. Just don’t understand btu’s an insulation ect. An just wasn’t willing to work with the limitations to aid in making it most efficient as they were able to. An expected more than it’s capable of giving. But understanding the limitations a working with them to aid it however. You’ll be happy with either of them. An or whatever one works best for the size area your dealing with. And you can support the juice it needs to run for however long you need it for

I run my Wave 2 in the Living Room. Using only the 5 inch exhaust hose. On the rear of the W2 it sucks in cool house air. No hose here. Thus compressor operates more efficiently. Work less hard. Saves Battery watts. I feed in 450-550 watts from 3 newpowa 220watt solar panels. Serial array. My unit runs from 10am to appx 7:30pm. The W2 charger is not connected. My Solar panels runs and charge the W2 and battery. Solar panels feed is much less than 60v. When the Battery LED's are blinking then the battery is being charged. At about 7:30 pm my W2 battery shows 2 or 3 LED's lit. At this time I power down the W2 and W2 battery. 3 second press on the W2 unit. 2 second press on the battery button. 10am next morning with Solar lead TURNED OFF by inline mc4 cable switch and w2 charger switched off____ I do a 2 second press on the battery button. Battery comes on with LED's lit on. Then I do the 1 second press on the W2 on button. Unit comes on. Now I switch on the Solar Mc4 cable inline switch. Thus a lightning bolt appears on the W2 dIsplay. Meaning solar panel is connected successfully. Battery LED's starts blinking meaning Solar is charging the w2 battery. W2 power charger remains off for the whole day. Thus my 10am to 7:30pm operation is all solar. Usually by 3pm Solar has fully charged my W2 battery.
