How do these compare to Karin Markers in how their nibs hold up? I've been trying to decide between the two for a while.

These nibs are softer than Karin Markers and they will definitely fray easier. I love my Karin Markers and would choose those personally. The ecolines definitely leave more of a watercolor look, there are more imperfections when you are using them. They release an inconsistent amount of ink depending on pressure which is why there are some pooling marks left while using them. Karin Markers are smooth and have a consistent flow of ink. Hopefully that helps!
