In light of recent discussions about corporate media layoffs, it's crucial to address the root cause: a profound loss of public trust. These media outlets have, for years, engaged in disseminating misinformation and serving as conduits for corporate and intelligence state agendas. This betrayal has not gone unnoticed by the public, leading to a significant decline in credibility and, subsequently, viewership. Glenn Greenwald's analysis of the situation sheds light on this irony - those who once wielded their platforms to manipulate narratives and undermine dissenting voices are now facing the repercussions of the mistrust they sowed. It's a stark reminder that integrity and transparency are non-negotiable in journalism.

Always great discussions. I remember a comparison my father made to me about the ultra wealthy and the poor. He said they do have one trait at least in common: both constantly think about money. The wealthy person is constantly thinking about who is taking their money: the tax person, the partner, the family member, the accountant, the lawyer, the hangers on etc. They are always looking behind their backs at who might be taking all their cash and the burn rate. While a poverty stricken person is also obsessed with money: how to pay for some food, some shelter, to wash themselves etc. That's what money does if one has way way too much or none at all.

@schiffelers3944
@schiffelers3944 Ай бұрын
I did like the part with Tess Fraad Wolff, but I think it is a bit more nuanced. I get she has to make a point and get that point across. It is not that directly as put in the video; they are the same but the prices are different, and that there are no differences, and it is only on producers of goods. There can be differences which can get glossed over. And since the society at large is also part of the reasons why and this programming not just the producer/manufacturers they are part of that social programming that existed and we all grew up in. Common men and women enforce these ideals of genders and these differences. It is not just the men, women do too! As a gay man I have my fair share of experiences straddling both sides, and being put down by both sides for doing so. Being too sensitive/feminine/emotional, too groomed (put together, taken extra care in how you look). In my opinion its a bit more complex and nuanced. Think TERF vs transwomen nonsense. Women can be just as responsible for enforcement of these issues if not the catalyst. 1. A woman can also buy male razors. She is not "forced" to not do so, there is social and peer pressure, but the choice in the end is still hers to make. The female razors where different from males not just the color but other designs aspects, as well, larger heads to smoothen the skin and more flexible since the locations to shave are different than just the face. More rounded and softer and less edgy. In the 90´s and ´00´s I prefered female razors above the male for shaving intimate spots, less cuts; since the design and flexibilities of the shaving head where different. With male personal grooming going up - the meterosexual phenomenon etc. things have changed. (Facial cream for men, what was wrong with the creme for women? Skin types are not male vs female, but dry/oily/sensitive/etc. Or with the Coca-cola diet and the silver can, and women starting to drink them because "diet" (it was ment for just diabetics to consume, asperthane is not healthy for healthy people - then the more butch design [Red can - black bold lettering] for males with the same drink content... Human psychology and consumerism. Psychologists have also thought about how to get the most profit out of humans. I just want to point that fact out. Product placement, marketing, commercials, etc. ) Women [not all, not a monolith] still want the pink in general, think of the bimbo's; "pink is my favorite color." Think Barbie with her pinks and violets. I am not forcing you to buy - I bought female razors and was not a female. It's not all that black and white. 2. The fabric of female button down shirt often are different and not a simple cotton shirt, this will make a price difference. This is a fact, female blouses (button down shirts) often are made from different fabrics than a standard male cotton button down shirt. And when in drag I will have more fabric to the cloths since my body shape is different thus the design of the clothing, even with a simple button down shirt. Again it's not all that black and white 3. As a hairdresser, even short hair cuts for women often are not the same as for males, it often takes longer, you don't just mainly use a trimmer as one does for short male hair cuts. It's not just going for the women in this. I am 40+, and I am balding, not saying women can't suffer from this - But I want to bet I have less hair to cut/shave with a short hair due than women. Also there are places you can get unisex prices, but these are not "posh" enough for the women, they want more. 4. There is a whole psychology behind this. Paying more = better. Is part of it. Why people pay more for a brand even if there is a cheaper and the same version without the brand on it. I would like to know what Tess Fraad Wolff would have to say on that. Comsumerism and the aristocratic women is where that culture and normalization began. Being able to pay the prices asked, there is no hackling down prices - why would there be that need they are not poor. They got their servants to do that with other stuff. But not on that new broche, or piece of jewelry. That would be below their class/standing to do so. And the men where the ones to pay. They pay a dowery, they buy the jewelry, etc. Still a lot of men are used to pay for the women, which makes them think they bought them, like a cow at the market. Putting out with dates, paying for the dates, paying for the girlfriend(s). *Diamonds are a girls best friend* / *I'm a matterial girl* / *Girls just want to have fun* Neuro-linguistic programmings flipped to a darker side. *However I agree with the costs of living and for female products are/can be higher often than for males.* Just how males have been better understood, in general with it being a man's world; healthcare being one of them, understanding the body and how it functions, hormones. "If a man would have cramps they would have invented something to deal with that." and sentiments like these. Now go back in time where all this was possible for men and women but with only the male working and one pay check..... Women working (in general) was a bonus on the household finances; this is generalized as how it evolved to be as it is. It was a bonus money tree to strip. Social and cultural evolutions. Also capitalism is more than just making capital - the profits flow to the capital/center of power, and capitalism goes hand in hand with monetary wealth and empires with their treasurechests/banks. *The companies want as much profit as they can muster; if people don't pay and buy the shit - they go out of business.* Its a game of give and take, and the bigger the differences in socio-economics (this includes minorities, females but also some males) the harder to influence since there will still be people paying thus the price will not go down. Those that can't afford just have to wait for the sale and down pricing. That is the simplicity of this in general.

I would like to see the relationship between capitalism and matriarchy since woman command the market focus and most advertisement sources being the biggest consumers in America. They also command the household, credit cards, state legislators, family courts, the state bank system which collects incredible revenue from custody and support orders feeding a growing army of civil servants, and the only political correct definition now allowed to be televised.

Good question for Prof Wolff but I would guess other presidential candidates would not be able to do much to help unions since it is Wall Street that controls all that stuff and not Washington... Ever since the 1950s every single senator and congressmen has gotten stupendous bribes to ruin every single Union whose work could be outsourced to sweatshop countries, obviously starting with Mexico and Japan and now over 75% of the manufactured products,, housewares and all others types of stuff sold in Walmart and other major chains including the home Depot and Menards type chains, all this stuff comes from China now... I don't know what all the smaller gadget makers unions were called but take the clothing worker's unions,, America since the 1940s was the largest clothing manufacturer on the planet and obviously every single clothing workers Union has been busted and Now instead of the composite fabric jeans we have 100% cotton single-ply denim clothing coming out of China and other places that isn't really good for heavy work, one has to get specially made clothing with at least 20% nylon or else the clothing could be ruined with one days hard work...... This is just one example but my point is that in china, there are three different grades of products, top of the line stuff that is sold in china, second-class stuff that's sold in high-end enclaves all over the world, and cheap stuff that's sold in the dollar stores and Walmart's of America and Europe and everywhere else... And this cheap stuff usually works, it's just that it doesn't last very long and the stuff wouldn't sell if American wholesalers didn't buy it....... So blaming China for shoddy products is ultimately senseless since it is American wholesalers who order the stuff.......

Agree. The Professor always reverts to the Democrats being better than the GOP and thinks we can only operate within the two major parties. For instance, he never mentions Kshama Sawant, but regularly cites AOC who has proven to be part of the establishment.
@micnorton9487
@micnorton9487 Ай бұрын
@@David-ro7gm I think that's just his realism,, Prof Wolff realizes that without a sea change and revolution in the United States,, under throwing the duopoly with some sort of direct democracy,, the only real hope for any socialist programs comes from the Democratic party.... WE of course know that the neoliberal Democratic party is really no better than the neocons when it comes to limiting the power of wall street,, so does the Prof but for a professor who is still tenured at a university to start calling for a socialist revolution in the united states, he wouldn't have his position very long....

The exploitative relationship between worker and corporation is undeniable. But i'm not so sure what the best solution is. I'm open minded, at least i try to be. There's another exploitative relationship that doesn't get as much recognition. Marriage partners. And whoever makes more money has gotten exploited by the lesser wage earner. Historically, the men have been chopped in half by the legal system. But it's equally unfair if a woman makes more money and then has to pay more to her ex husband. Instead of focusing exclusively on upending the capitalistic system, it would make sense to me to make changes in divorce settlements. As women are starting to earn more money, it would help prevent women from getting exploited in divorce. As for the patriarchy being related to capitalism, i'm not really sold on it yet. There are plenty of women in charge of making decisions in companies on how much to charge so it can't be all men's fault. I guess the only way to blame men is if you were to say it's a vestige of the pariarchy that is still around, even though women have more influence than they used to. The example i think of to counter this is the artificial intelligence revolution. How come it was men who spearheaded it instead of women? It was out there for everyone to chase. I'm genuinely curious. The part about the patriarchy impacting men was really thought provoking. I don't have all the data and stats on how men suppress emotions. But i know that people who don't practice keeping their emotions in check have a hard time distinguishing who is trying to help them and who is trying to hurt them. If you want boys and men who are encouraged to focus on their emotions, those people exist. Mormon guys are exactly that type of guy

I love Dr Wolff, but Im not convinced that eliminating the patriarchy is going to cure what it is said to. We are not the same as men and women, and it always seems to come back to going against millennia of male/female dynamic. Of course the exploitation of people by employers, the system is wrong, but the elimination of the patriarchy seems as it will produce weak men, strong women, and make us all less capable as a species, and in the meantime less competitive against other cultures/countries. Also there may be some changes to dating/mating dynamics which could be detrimental to the species as well. Just thoughts.

I’ve found that some people use the word ‘predatory’ in connection with capitalism to create the illusion that there’s a form of capitalism that isn’t inherently predatory; but in fact, capitalism doesn’t even work without the opportunity for exploitation, which is the very nature of the predator: to take advantage of, exploit or prey upon the disadvantaged, disabled, financially or otherwise vulnerably handicapped. This is, I believe, the reason that in a capitalistic economic model, it takes money to make money. That being the case, it would seem that the proper remedy would be to abolish capitalism and adopt some form of democratic socialism.

A patriarchy is just a social system of how people live. It doesn't mean the subjugation of women or men have more power. It is division of labour. A matriarchy will be another system not a better system, no system is perfect. Men and women have to get along it doesn't matter which system we use. Capitalism is the root of the problem not the patriarchy. Capitalism has caused the subjugation of women and men. Not even capitalism but poverty and the struggle to survive causes exploitation. Stop creating and feeding a gender war, that is not the answer. It is a conspiracy theory.

Enjoyed Your Conversation: Dr. Wolff and Woman psychologist guest! Women and men have different emphasized character traits, along with obvious physical differences. Men of necessity have to try to defend their groupings. This would probably require a sort of command structure, or at least planning. Inherent or inherited traits could create a "hierarchy" of members, so on.

Why does work get represented as a value in commodities and why is the working day measured as a magnitude of value? Unearthing the answer to these two questions gets you to the chief causes of many social relations of subjugation and exploitation in capitalism. If products made especially for women are more expensive than their male counterparts, then why don't they just use the products made for men? There were also countless humans who were born into the hierarchical/RW system of slavery, in the same United States as you, and many of those slaves didn't comprehend that they were slaves, either. So you're in the same position of ignorance, regarding the hierarchical/RW system of patriarchy, as the countless humans who were born into the hierarchical/RW system of American-slavery, without even realizing it. Many of those slaves in the American-past didn't comprehend that they were living in slavery, because the RW-masters didn't allow the slaves to be educated. So, not only did many slaves not realize the concept of a better life, many of them didn't even comprehend the concept of slavery. Just like you don't seem to comprehend the concept of patriarchy, or that patriarchy exists in practice, or that you are entrenched in that patriarchy. However, the slaves of the past had an excuse for their ignorance; they were prevented from learning under penalty of violence. But you have a device with limitless information, and answers to countless questions, right at your fingertips, and you're still ignorant. The slaves in the past could NOT just learn about slavery, even if they wanted to. But the patriarchs, and their beneficiaries, in the present COULD learn about patriarchy, but, instead they choose to: (a)remain *foolishly-ignorant* about patriarchy -- it's easy for ignorant-patriarchs to remain ignorant regarding the hierarchical/RW system of patriarchy. AND/OR (b)act *knavishly-ignorant* about patriarchy -- it's easy for knavish-patriarchs to pretend to act like the hierachcal/RW system of patriarchy doesn't exist, just like many slave-owners pretended like the hierarchical/RW system of slavery didn't exist. Throughout history, the wealthy-class-RW knaves have pretended that they weren't the perpetrators & beneficiaries of hierarchical systems. And throught that same history, those same wealthy-knaves have indoctrinated and co-opted the most ignorant & vile members of the working-class (who don't comprehend hierarchy, let alone slavery) to commit violent-subjugation of other working-class humans at the behest of the wealthy-class. So, if you can't comprehend patriarchy, then it's no surprise that you're exactly the kind of ignorant working-class slave that the hierarchical/RW wealthy-class masters want you to be. Congratulations... ...you're a moron. 🥳

The one place where people hope to escape from the dehumanizing world of work, is within a religious community. It’s the place where men can re-connect with their humanity, and in most cases, the sanctity of the feminine. It seems, however, that extremism has been empowered, and religion weaponized against women, and anyone else who doesn’t believe as they do. The Barbie movie has become a political wedge issue! Taylor Swift is regularly demeaned on a certain news network. Most men would deny that they want to demean women, but, their vote will say the opposite.

Professor Wolff schools Lex Fridman on economics and how he would run a business, or how he thinks business should work, or.....????? The following was an excerpt from a three-hour interview with Lex where Wolff offers the following example of his understanding of all of the above and titled "Why Capitalism Fails." An employer hires 100 employees as labor to produce "whatever", for $100 and then spends another $100 on the materials the production requires. From this, he receives $20 profit and repeats the process. He then purchases a machine that replaces 50% of his workforce...so he does. Wolff disapproves of this as labor is always exploited ( except in the case of Mr and Mrs Smith who agree to sell their business to their employees ) and he suggests that all the employees should be retained at the same rate of pay, while only working half the hours. ( because labor is 100% responsible for what is being produced. ) This is similar to "other examples" he has offered in his attempt to sell the "democratically run workplace where the "employees" decide what to produce, when to produce, and how to produce as well as what to do with the profits." Now this example is completely flawed and so detached from reality that it is impossible to take it seriously...except on this site. ( echo chamber ) So I leave it to YOU, to decide whether to attempt to defend this idea or see how many flaws you can find pointing out a singular one that as an "existing business" all that what to produce stuff has already been determined, as it would be for any "existing business". Will those who have been "brilliantly educated" by the Professor respond with anything intelligently relevant or substantive? We shall see. *For those with reading comprehension difficulties. Your mission, if you decide to accept it, is to analyze the scenario presented by the Professor and to determine if it is a viable strategy. What are the prospects for its success? Does it provoke questions regarding the elements offered? It should be noted that while the example is suggestive of Wolff's co-op model of a democratic workplace in his alternative solution to firing the replaced workforce, the example itself is the standard, employer owner, employee worker that is the current capitalist structure. Twelve attempts...still waiting... xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Update...1 relevant response was received in reply to the 6th attempt...congratulations. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The above translated for the functionally illiterate: An employer hires 100 employees as labor to produce "whatever", for $100 and then spends another $100 on the materials the production requires. From this, he receives $20 profit and repeats the process. He then purchases a machine that replaces 50% of his workforce...so he does. Wolff disapproves of this... and he suggests that all the employees should be retained at the same rate of pay, while only working half the hours." "Your mission, if you decide to accept it, is to analyze the scenario presented by the Professor and to determine if it is a viable strategy. What are the prospects for its success? Does it provoke questions regarding the elements offered? " So, there you have it...defend it, falsify it... or question it. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx These fifth-grade word problems can be hard...take your time. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx So after 10 attempts, there doesn't seem to be anyone capable of performing the analysis requested. Yet there has been no shortage of comments, most of which are indignant as to why anyone would question their "virtue signaling" Marxist educator. Or desperate attempts to change the subject, complete with "ad hominem's". And as usual, the censorship algorithm has kicked in preventing any response by me to these irrelevant and non-substantive comments. No analysis therefore = no reply. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Given the "choices" available in response to this "education" by the Professor...( defend it, falsify it... or question it. ) it is absolutely mystifying that NO ONE seems capable or willing to choose any of them. The single relevant response raised the point that Wolff didn't anticipate the replacement of the machine, and while true, it does jump the gun in terms of many other things that should be of a more immediate concern. In short, if nothing else, the example begs many questions, and yet not a single one has been asked. Here are a few. The professor neglected the "machine" entirely. What did it cost to buy? What does it cost to run? Maintain? Operate? Given the suggested solution...these costs would have to be covered by the profit of $20, since all of the employees are to be retained,for the same cost. Yet despite this, the professor has assumed that the "profit" would increase. ( just as he assumes that "business" always produces a profit. ) Also, given the example and solution, we must conclude that all the "employees" are doing the same job...since they all being retained, and are now working 4 hrs/day. If this were true, the a simpler solution would be to add a second 8 hr. shift and even a third, adding another 50 jobs, and tripling whatever the assumed profit would be. Of course, if they are NOT doing the same job, then the 50 being replaced by the machine would not be capable of replacing anyone. Another question is that since these employees are involved in manufacturing the product, the $20. profit also includes the "owners" work...that would involve securing a constant supply of the resources needed, as well as, the marketing and sale of what is being produced. Given the evidence, it does not seem that the Professor understands what is involved in actually running a business, nor do those supposedly being "brilliantly educated" by him. This result should raise DOUBT about the prospect of the "democratically organized co-op" where the employees decide, what, when, and how to produce and what to do with the "profits". That they would be capable of producing "anything" at a profit is as absurd as the claim that this "lesson" demonstrates "Why Capitalism Fails." xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Aw, more censorship from D & W hence the need to respond here. to @pitpalic 2 + 2 =4 ...Ideology does not alter the truth of that statement nor does it prevent the analysis of the scenario presented here. It doesn't change the questions asked or the observations that arise from them. You have chosen not to perform the analysis nor respond to the questions or observations. My ideology is irrelevant...but apparently, yours is not. Nothing you have to say is relevant to the task at hand, nor can it be used to provide the "exposure" you seem to want me to confess to. Nor does it alter 2 + 2 + 4. All that matters is you can't or won't perform the task...and you keep repeating it. In fact, that is the only thing consistent in all the responses thus far save one. Strangely, you all could have saved all that time by not responding at all. At least THAT might have been proof of the claim that "no one" could be bothered to read what had been written, rather than proving none for you can read in the first place. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The jGoon troll again,, why do you bother with this senseless time wasting? It's obvious you don't want to discuss socialism,, it's equally obvious you don't know how any sort of business runs because why would a business run without making a profit? It's possible to do activity without a profit motive but those sorts of things are usually social infrastructure and the programs are always implemented to offset the excesses and externalities of cutthroat capitalism.... As to where the money comes from to do these programs, only an idiot would fail to notice that they come from taxes and other Capital initiative sometimes directly from oligarchs themselves, Carnegie was famous towards the end of his life for building libraries and schools and universities and all kinds of things,, the fact that he was doing it to offset a lifetime of cutthroat robber Baronism might be significant but the point was he took his own money and plunked it into communities all across the United states.... And the LAST thing Andrew Carnegie was was a socialist......

And if they are selling for $100 yet the materials are $100 then he's already operating at a 1:1 basis, just barely breaking even. I'm wondering how your got to the $20 profit figure. A better way to conceptualize this would be to say after $100 spent on materials, 10 items are produced sold at $20 each leaving a $10 profit. From your line of questioning I don't even know how much of what's being produced and how much it's selling for

@@Petey-se1lo What part of "this is Wolff's example" do you not understand... From this, he receives a $20 profit and repeats the process. So, according to Wolff, the owner invested $200 in materials and labor to produce something that earned $20. profit. As noted above, one of the choices available regarding the analysis of this example, was the number of "questions" it raised. So, thanks for the question...( it's pretty much self-explanatory ) but you are directing it to the wrong person.
