Productivity, the UK is de-industrialising and productivity has suffered. Paul Krugman has a good quote re Productivity

Expensive energy. GDP per capita is highly correlated with energy production. So much so that the rest of macroeconomics is pretty much just explaining statistical noise.

It's the balance of trade. The UK economy consistently has a negative balance of trade meaning the UK loses billions of pounds by buying too much imports. If the UK economy wants to grow then it's going to need to become less reliant on imports.

Gov do not grow economy, the private sector does, the best way for that to happen is for gov to just get out of the way

Not under labour it wont be, big gov, big welfare, high tax, anti business. not a recipe of a booming economy. If you were looking at countries to start up in, see that in the UK, vs alternatives, which are they going to pick

The UK economy isn't broken. In terms of growth in GDP at PPP and per capita growth at PPP since the financial crisis, the UK ranks 3rd out of the G7. Inflation and unemployment are low, and the UK has better demographic than most of Europe.

The state is too big. Government needs to get out of the way and let individuals and businesses get on with growing prosperity.
@BenSaxon-dg8rm16 күн бұрын
The state is too big because we have an aging population. Old people cost a lot in health and social care. Double that with a constrained housing supply and people have less money to pay in tax because a greater proportion is going in rent/mortgage. This leads to people not being able to have children, resulting in the population continually aging and this other doom loop continuing indefinitely. The solution: If you are retired and can afford to pay for your social and health care, you should! Free health care for all only worked when we had a young population. Boomers had that. We don't have that luxury anymore.

No individual or business is going to build a road, electric grid, or railways line. Government needs to get involved
@ianschofield825916 күн бұрын
@@danielmartinezdowsett4776 hence I commented that it was too big. I didn’t say it wasn’t required at all. The world over, states that embrace communism and full on socialism result in a poorer standard of living.

@@BenSaxon-dg8rm so uncontrolled immigration isn’t helping the UK then. If productivity was higher and people took some responsibility for their own health and care then perhaps everybody else wouldn’t have to pick up the tab.
@euanstokes282813 күн бұрын
@@BenSaxon-dg8rm there's a neutral option here. We don't need to abandon social care to reduce the inefficiencies in the UK state. We need planning reform and a better system of local government in my view, and more regional autonomy. This will allow the central government to slim down, bring governments closer to their communities and therefore more in touch with their needs and would probably require less Bureaucracy. Meanwhile, we give individuals more freedom to develop and change land they own rather than the current asinine planning system.

It’s really heartbreaking to see how inflation and recession impact low-income families. The cost of living keeps rising, and many struggle just to meet basic needs, let alone save or invest. It’s a reminder of the importance of finding ways to create financial opportunities. You've helped me a lot sir Brian! Imagine i invested $50,000 and received $190,500 after 14 days
